Transformers War for Cybertron Multiplayer Demo on XBLM Now

Yea the demo has been fun as hell. I'm so torn thanks to it between PC and 360 versions.

Sadly there is no info on the PC version. Nothing on it's drm, online structure or anything.

Eh, I don't want to watch the SP .. (don't want to get spoiled) .. and I know it's a little hard to ask him to play MP with a total of 19 people playing .. but still.

I just want to see the Scientist and Leader in action.
He's on mutli now.

Wow, he sucks. Like I would've run circles around this guy over and over again. He never transforms at all. Walking around everywhere is sure death .. who is he playing against?!

emp shotgun has got to be the most underused but awesome gun. 2 direct hits from close to mid range usually kill.

and yes, I've played the demo way more than I care to admit. I keep going back to it.

Which one is David and Goliath?

I swear from what I am seeing, the Scout's are beasting it on the Soldier's pretty bad. Unless you're up against a smart Soldier who spams the mini-gun and rocket launcher .. :D

it's hard to tell. I can do very very well with either class, but that is likely because most people in the game right now are newbies and I keep playing. I think all else being equal the scout really does have the advantage. the sheer mobility (not to mention stealth) mean that if you're alert you can survive and escape almost every time (I JUST NOW went 15-0 in a deathmatch as scout, and whenever I play scout, my deaths are almost always between 0 and 3).

soldier dies more because he's not very mobile, and his skills are not nearly as useful as scout's. whirlwind is situational (works well against newbs, less useful against experienced players, which retail will have more of) and hover is almost useless. if you stay hovered for more than a second or two, you're a sitting duck up there... everyone wants to shoot you. if the cooldown was far less, the skill might be useful.

increased HP and access to scrapmaker and EMP shotgun mean that you can kill a lot, though. strangely enough when I play soldier I'm more inclined to lurk around cover and behind doors and so forth because if I run around out in the open I'm completely vulnerable, whereas the scout can move at will because he's so fast he can safely travel the battlefield.

so, yeah, based on the demo, I'd have to say the scout is a better and stronger class than soldier. hopefully in retail the rest of the game's skills and features and classes and unlocks balance it out more.

Good post. ^

I've learned that as a Soldier, not to try and defend areas out in the open (if I'm alone) but instead defend hallways or smaller rooms because then you take advantage of the Whirlwind and just generally are much more dangerous in closed areas.

Scout's are just awesome because with Stealth + Dash and being able to still switch to vehicle form in Stealth means they can move so quickly around the map.

I've enjoyed equipping Backstab on my Scout and sneaking up on Soldier's from the back and as long as I get 1 melee strike on them, the rest is a couple scatter blaster shells.

However, things are really going to change when the Leader and Scientist come into play.

I'm assuming that either the scientist or leader will be have some sort of ability to help detect cloaked scouts, thus forcing them to be a little less reckless in their movements.

I also imagine that hover will be more useful when you can unlock the "greater damage when hovering" perk. I get the feeling that if you combine that perk with the ammo beacon, which also increases weapon damage, you will be able to kill insanely quickly.

Again, I really just wish we could play a couple games with leader/scientist before plopping down $60 on the final game :( I really want to get this, but I also really don't want to get burned.

For my Canadian brothers out there, Walmart will be selling it there for 40 bucks the entire first week. So yea, you lucky bastards.

Well, we don't have access to Killstreaks in the demo, and Scout's @ 3-kills can deploy an Orbital Beacon (UAV) to display enemy locations. I assume it'll display even enemy cloaked Scout's locations as well. Then the Orbital Beacon 2.0 @ 7-kills for the Scout sends out a level-wide EMP blast and marks everyone's locations.

So it seems Scout's are Scout's worst enemy.

Plus, the Soldier has the ability to disable enemy abilities for a time - so that'll counter Stealth as well.

Went ahead and pre-ordered. MP seems fun enough to justify even if the SP is meh.

I'm curious as to how the balance will work out with the flying class. I hope there are some bigger maps.

The Scientists (Jet Fighters) only have 3 cubes of health, so they're they weakest. Plus, Soldiers can be equipped with the Thermo Rocket Launcher which locks onto vehicles - so that's some anti-air right there.

I'm really on the fence of either buying or just Gameflying this game.

This type of game strikes me as the kind of game that will probably only see a sequel if it does well, and I want my money to speak in behalf of the game. It looks like High Moon Studios is really taking the game seriously and is putting its best foot forward to make a great Transformers game.

At the same time, what if it tuns out to not be as good as it seems? I don't usually make blind buys anymore when it comes to games and this would probably be that. Although I want Jazz as my pre-order bonus, I can't ignore the fact that I have $30 in Amazon credit. Wondering if I should just chance it for $30.

I really wish activision hadn't put an embargo up on the game until the day it launches. After seeing much of the campaign being streamed I've decided it's definitely worth a purchase for me... However I've had to expose myself to so many damn spoilers just to see whether or not this thing is worth the money.

couple more observations about MP balance.

1) rocket launcher just seems far too weak. I understand that OP'd rocket launchers are more annoying, but this is just too little damage, too little splash, and too few shots between reloads --- making it a poor weapon choice compared to others. even with vehicle lock on it seems to take over 4 shots to kill anyone.

2) one of the problems with scout cloak is that the CD is so low. I was scratching my head a bit ago thinking about how the soldier's near-useless hover ability (I mainly just use it for a second double jump) has a significantly greater cooldown than scout's highly powerful stealth. what on earth?

I wonder if they'll patch MP balance going forwards. that could really make or break this game -- the demo is clearly unbalanced, with certain weapons (see scrapmaker) being vastly superior to others in every regard as well as the previously mentioned class balance issues.

For what I have played of the MP I think that easily justifies the $60 for me just because of how fun it was. But the SP looks like it is shaping up pretty good too.

1. I think the rocket launcher is fine personally. My Soldier load-out right now is the EMP Shotgun and the Rocket Launcher, or the AR and the Rocket Launcher. I have great success weakening an enemy either by my tank's cannon, the AR or the shotgun and then if need be switch to the RPG and double-jump to gain altitude and then just blast the enemy's feet. I get tons of kills that way.

Also it's going to become more vital to lock onto the Jet Fighters when that class is unlocked - since the Scientists only have 3 bars of health. I do think the Scrapmaker is a bit too powerful though - I see 90% of Soldier's loading out with that weapon. Either it needs to take more time to wind up or have less ammo.

2. I agree here. The Scout's cloak does regenerate pretty quickly, and that'll only increase when there's Leader's using their Intercooler killstreak to reduce it even more. I do think the Scout's invisibility should be more noticeable though - with maybe some random lightning sparks as they move.

We'll see how the general balance is in the full game. I don't think they really cared much to balance a demo with half the classes and 2/3rds of the abilities locked.

Not really sure where to post this since somebody's being to lazy to make an official thread? Anyway looks like the game just got it's first review.

Hey guys, just wanted to give a heads up about this.

A dutch gaming magazine called Power Unlimited managed to get the scoop of having the first official review for War For Cybertron in their latest issue, which went on sale yesterday. The review itself doesn't go indepth that much; it just has the reviewer (a known dutch fan) talking about how great of a game this is for the fans, that it's a good game in it's own right that might be enjoyable for non-TF fans...He wasn't able to test the multiplayer for obvious reasons though.

Score: 88/100.

Lookin' good prime!

Can you take unlock the single player characters for multiplayer or at least modify the chasis to look like sp characters? Sucks if you can't, also where will you get to use Shockwave or Jazz?

Escalation mode. And yeah as you play you unlock more characters as I understand.

I'm still on the fence with this game. I think the multiplayer is fun, and it is only $40, I'm just worried about longevity. I''m not a huge online player but I need something to satisfy my online gaming craving (Bad Company 2 and Call of duty don't really do it for me)

Also here is a review that was posted on the 17th for Game Axis (never heard of them)

Hey thanks! Sounding good, pretty much what I expected. Linear in design, nothing revolutionary but a high execution level. Sounds great :D Really not any different from 99.9% of other shooter designs but hey, I can effing transform in this one.:lol

So who's handling the official thread?

Hopefully the online has some staying power if reviews from more major sites positive. I can see myself personally sinking a ton of time into it. Campaign wise from what I saw of the stream it generally takes anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half to complete a single mission which is a good sign.

Same here, and there are a ton of modes as well. Getting the 360 version (well have it preordered, havent really decided yet), think there will be a big enough following to warrant a Transformers metatag? At least for escalation and other co-op modes.

End of the review:

TF:WFC isn’t what we call a ground-breaking concept of a game; rather it lets fans of shooters and Transformers lore let out their linear-structured destructive inhibitions. If you’re down with the war between these space automatons, then it’s a no-brainer of a purchase. Those not in that particular category might give this a rent first before deciding whether you’re comfortable playing the role of a axe-wielding robot that transforms into a red truck.

Well whoever does it should have the classic looking transformers alongside the in game versions. Or find some way to blend the art between the two.

I'm going to come out and be a noob here. But I don't know that that means.

And my photoshop only works about 10% of the time since my computer is so janky. It'd be fun to do but I'm really not that good at it. The closest thing I've ever done was the Tactics Ogre Thread which got so buried :(

I had $10 credit on Amazon for getting UFC 10 and then had a $20 Amazon gift card for referring someone to Gamefly. ;)

Sorry if my earlier post was misleading.

This game seems interesting. Unfortunately it's an Activision game which = no buy for me. Glad to hear that Transformers is finally getting a decent game though.

Ill be renting it, the MP was fun but i cant see myself playing it for too long. Hopefully the SP is good.

Also kinda funny, when i was playing it my wife came home and was like "they made a transformers mod for Unreal Tournament 3??" I then reallized she was kinda right lol :lol

EB Games in Aust will be selling it on 360/PS3 for $59 when it gets released. The manager said it retails for $79, but due to their sale, it automatically gets $20 off :D

Np, just realized what it was myself. Its when someone makes a silver level XBL gamertag, adds everyone who will be playing as friends, and that way you can just invite others through the silver gamertag's friend list.

It's so you dont always have to erase a ton of people off your friends list, just to play the newest game online.

Ohhhhh, gotcha! Heck that came in really handy when BlazBlue came out. Well that'd be just swell!

Yeah, whoever starts the OT should go all out. The thread needz to be epic!

I'm surprised that one hasn't been made yet. I would start one but A) I'm not nearly talented enough with photoshop to make one and B) I'm a junior member. :(

anyone get theirs shipped from gamefly? I re-upped JUST for this, and I even upgraded to a 3 game plan JUST to make sure I had a slot waiting for it...

this morning comes and gamefly has it on "low" and they didn't ship it to me. death sentence. normally this means it'll be 3 to 4 weeks before getting it. :(

if I knew this would happen I wouldn't have thrown away the $30, and would have just bought it instead. now I can't justify it.

NOT a happy camper.

I never trusted Gamefly, even though I checked it out multiple times. I just always feel like I'll be disappointed.

I know the feeling. Maybe it's because they and I got into it cause I wasn't getting games when they said I was. Course come to find out a year or so later it turned out some dumb chick that worked for the Postal Service was apparently into some heavy theft of mail which apparently included all the games gamefly kept sending me. I wonder what she got sentenced to. I'll have to remember my log in for the DOJ website for victims.

Congrats!

I had a hard time deciding between the PS3 or 360 version, because the PS3 is my main system and I have 50+ friends but I want Custom Soundtracks, chances are the servers and gameplay performance is going to be a bit better on the 360 - so I went with that.

It's too hard to pass up the ability to listen to the Transformers Movie score as I play.
