Trauma Center: Under the Knife "are you ready Doctor?"

Just beat the game today. I can safely say that chapter 6-8 was hell, and I don't think I'll ever play through story mode again unless I'm feeling particularly masochistic.

woha just love that game :) I think I reached the last level. it's some sort of big bug which is constantly making a net which drains the life-energy of the patient!

can't finish this level though. I don't know what to do after I destroyed the net. that bug keeps producing tons of these small blue bugs. I am destroying them with the laser but there are more and more coming all the time. does anyone have an idea what to do in this level?

I was in EB yesterday, I had to choose between this game and Phoenix Wright. I got the laywer game instead.

But I'll get Trauma Center eventually.

Good god, I just got to the
bomb disarming section, that was soo intense! Cutting the red wires at the end with 10 seconds
left my hands shaking after. Damn I know it gets stupid hard later and that might throw off the whole experience, but this has been the most sheer fun I've had with a game in quite a long while. Awesome!

Anyone had luck finding this outside the specialists? (I'm boycotting GamestopEB and their "new preowned" bullshit.) It's looking like I'll have to get this online.

This games seems to be VERY well stocked for an Atlus game. I got my copy along with Castlevania: DoS at Best Buy. Hey, the Best Buys around here (the Twin Cities, where Best Buy's HQ is located) are awesome, so don't kill me for shopping there. :(

Minneapolis/St. Paul? Yeah, I got some unbelievable import CDs from one in Duluth. I didn't realize the HQ was there, but it makes a lot more sense now :)

No store of any non-specialist chain (I've tried Best Buy, Circuit City, Target, Kmart, Meijer...) that I've been to has it in SE Michigan. I ended up getting it off Overstock.com for $29 shipped. I'm happy with that.

Minnesota has lots of businesses & retailers that started up and/or are centralized here. Cargale, 3M, GM, Best Buy, Target, and fucking DAIRY QUEEN are ones I know of off the top of my head.

Just wanted to post this in here, since it seemed appropriate.

I've finally taken to playing this game extensively after finishing Castlevania earlier this week.

I'm operating on
Dr. Kasal
right now. Still love this game. The difficulty really ramped up in 2-4 and in the operation on
Tyler's sister

The bomb mission, which was 3-6, was really giving me a lot of trouble when I got to the section where you have to cut like 10 red wires in 15 seconds or the bomb explodes. I kept on either running out of time or cutting a white wire. Then after like 45 minutes I realized I could use the healing touch. Beat that section on my frist try with the healing touch. :lol

I really wish I could find a rip of this game's music, or that Atlus would release an OST. The music in this game seriously rules. I love the different surger tunes, particularly the one that plays during a GUILT operation. I assume there's a few more tunes I haven't heard yet.

Yeah, ramped up... I'm completely stuck on 2-4. Worse thing is that I don't understand what I'm doing wrong.

Any advice ?

I'm really fond of this game, but I'm starting to get frustrated !

Use the healing touch when you get to the part with 5 aneurisms. Excise them, but don't remove them. At least not until you excise two or three of them (otherwise the vitals might start dropping a little too much for you to keep up with).

You can have one aneurism burst without losing the mission, but if two of them burst, the vitals will drop to 0 pretty much instantly. So stay sharp, and work quickly.

OK, thanks a lot... That what I was trying to do. It's good to know that I don't miss anything. In fact, I was starting to wonder whether it was a good idea to excise several at a time.

Very fresh and nice game...

I'm still on the It never ends mission myself. Someone told me you only have to get through 3 patients and I just can't quite do it. I had 15 seconds left on the clock when I killed the final big bug swimming around but that wasn't enough time to heal the wounds, ressucitate him from near death AND seal him shut. Even with healing touch enabled. I'll finish it sometime though.

WTF @ THE
Pempti strain of GUILT. This thing is gnarly. O_o. I'm trying to beat it with the new laser, but I start getting rid of the tumors, and while I'm applying healing gel to the wounds left from destroying the tumors, the core decides to start causing lacerations again, and the vitals drop to 0. :( Maybe I should use the healing touch...

The scary thing is, we could see shit like this happen in the next 20 years or so with nanotechnology sprouting.

Edit: WOOHOO CHAPTER 5!

Got mine at Best Buy, they had Trace Memory there too. Only game I've never seen at Best Buy is Phoenix Write: Ace Attorney.

Awesome game by the way, I'm on chapter 5-2 right now, i'm having a tough time doing this surgery, keep running out of time.

Ok is there some added twist to removing the Tetri in 5-3 besides the vaporization? I swear they didn't multiply at this rate in the other Tetri mission.

Are you talking about the triangle ones? You kind of have to work from one corner to the other when you're pulling the thorns out. There was some pattern to them regenerating that I couldn't figure out. This is what they say on the FAQ:

Tetarti type. A new triangle will form where there are 2 wedges next to each
other, so pull out as many wedges in between as possible. Leaving 1 triangle
will cause then to multiply. First excise the triangle in the center, then
work on the upper left side. Start excising from the bottom right on the left
side. Try and get rid of the shining triangle ASAP. Use the Healing Touch near
the middle or the end of the operation.

Hate the triangles!

That was evil

What I did was this: after cutting the patient open, I used the healing touch. I then removed ALL the thorns from both sides, and then I excised and removed the membranes from one side before the HT time expired. (which was about the time the thorns would have begun to regenerate on the first side I began pulling thorns from).

With half of the membranes gone, the rest was (relatively) a breeze.

Tricky mission, though.

I'm stuck on the second mission where you have to match the colored serum to the same-colored GUILT strain (mission five-something). It's too damn fast!

The
Dr. Myers
mission was tough. I hope there's not many more missions where I have to deal with that type of GUILT.

Anyways, W00T FOR THE END OF CHAPTER 5!
PARASITIC SPIDER BOSS BATTLES WITH AWESOME MUSIC!

and you thought that was tough.

Get ready for a brainmelt.

yes I hear the upcoming section of the game is evil.

btw someone find me a rip of the game's music, please.

*goes back to trying to destroy savato* :(

Chapter 6 is for people who enjoy smashing their heads against the wall.

Great game overall, wish there were a few more crazy operations like the bomb scare. That shit was intense!

How do you beat Chapter 5-9?

I get to the part where Derek automatically uses healing touch (after using the black injection), but whenever I try to use the scalpel/laser the spider just moves around before I can hit it.. By the time I think I'm about to get it, time runs out. I'm sure the answer is fairly obvious, but I've tried a few times and haven't been able to get it.

Yeah, so help.

You're really close. All you need to do is
do another healing touch and you will freeze time and can kill the spider easily.

thanks for the tips on the Tetarti Guilt. Those are seriously crazy to deal with. I hate hate hate them! If I were a surgery resident I'd quit if that really happened. After discussing the same chapter with my sister (who's simultaneously playing this with me), we came to the conclusion that the best way (similar to whats been said) was to use the healing touch, pull thorns like crazy, and once they're all out do incredibly swift (but precise) cuts to loosen the triangles and remove them all at once. It might sound nuts but it worked for me. However even though you're using the healing touch, you still have to be very fast, it took me quite a few tries to do it right. It looks really funny when your doing it too :lol. but who cares as long as I can get past that stage nothing else matters.

I'm stuck as SHIT on the mission where you have to operate on several people in 10 minutes, and I haven't had the trouble that many of you GAFFERs reported having earlier in the game...

I'm really enjoying it and I'm gald I bought it, but Jesus this isn't the game I expected it to be. So tough!

All you have to do is finish treating 3 people within the 10 minutes, then take your time to finish off the one you're working on.

I'd also like to add to the Trauma Center love-in, while I'm here (if it isn't over?)

This game didn't get NEAR enough praise, being overshadowed by PW and Castlevania like it was. That overshadowing was why I didn't pick it up until this weekend.

A testament to how amazing the game is is just how involved it manages to get me. I get mad when I lose a hard level I've been working at or something, but whoashit. Last night a particular level was giving me a LOT of trouble and my GF walked into the room and threw my cell phone at me and started talking to me, causing me to lose. I was like

"FUUUCK! HE DIED! GOD DAMMIT, WHAT DO YOU WANT?"

...and I'm NEVER that angry when she distracts me and causes a loss in a game. I mean I'm able to recognize that ultimately games are just games, right? I'd get a little miffed when her or anything else in my surroundings would cause me to lose a round of Halo 2 or whatever, but not like this.

The amount of emotion that I invest in each operation is incredible. I don't think its because I care about the patients/storyline... I think its more about each operation being such a complete process. Even at the very bitter end of the game, you still have to prep and cut open the patient, and then sew them up and bandage them, at the end. When you cut open its like "*deep breath* Ok, here we go..."

..I dunno. I'm having a hard time verbalizing what I'm trying to say, I guess. The point is the game rocks so DS owners, search around and pick it up before it becomes scarce.

The word you're looking for is "intense."

I noticed myself sweating several times while playing. Such an intense experience.

I hope you apologized to your GF for yelling. :lol

Thanks for the tip BorkBork, I was using Healing Touch prior to the automated one, never even thought about using it afterwards.

I'm at 6-3 now.. damn those thorns!

and I agree GDJustin, the game totally rocks.

Getting high ranks in the early missions is VERY, VERY dependant on your speed.

If you're trying to get high ranks for the sake of some kind of special unlockable, you better stop now, because there's nothing you get for any kind of accomplishment with any of the ranks.

And for the love of god, someone find me a rip of this game's music.

30 seconds is easy.

By the way, you'll also need to get like 90% cool ratings. (on the first mission, that is)

Sorry to bump this thread, but i've got a question.

In chapter 2.2 or 2.3 you have to cut out several infectious eeuh... "bubbles"...but there's one just at the top of the screen, where the message "low on time" and the heartbeat are displayed. Now, it seems as if that upper part of the touch screen doesn't recognise "touch". So I can't get past that chapter. It's only in Trauma Center the touch screen doesn't work, in other games it works perfectly fine.

Is it normal? Is there something wrong? Any recommendations?

Thx

Is that the one called "Awakening" and you have
to cut out the things that pop up(and will burst if you don't inject them with some crap to make them small enough cut), drain the blood, put the veins back together, then stich them up?
If so, use your magnifying glass to zoom out, then use it again to zoom in on the area. It is best to make a "C" on the area you want to zoom in/out on.

That mission is very tough.

It's indeed that mission. Thanks for the advice!

Wowsa after all this time finally the thread comes back to life. After many a other thread about the game as well.

Please if you have a ds dont shame yourself buy this damn game.

Spent 7 damn hours looking for this today, finally found it 2 hours ago. Got the last copy in all of Queens NY. Yeahh... Just started Chapter 2 Healing Touch. Game owns, DSL's best game easily.

I just picked up Trauma Center today. My local Best Buy has had the same copy of TC for weeks now. Every time I go in, I see the one copy just sitting on the shelf. I couldn't take it anymore. It was calling to me.

I've only done a few surgeries, but wow, this game is great. This is what the stylus was meant for. I'm up to the surgery where there's a bunch of tumors in the stomach, but there's infections all over or something. I got owned. I would've tried again, but I want to watch my AD Season 3 DVDs.

PS: The pose the main character does when he starts a surgery is possibly the most terrible thing I've ever seen. "LET'S START THE SURGERY" with his hand held out in a flamboyant position. :lol

ER mode FTMFW.

Seriously, that sounds cool as shit. I'm giving little jimmy some stitches in his finger and some old hag dies from a heart attack because i didn't manage the ER properly? Sounds cool to me.

I hope they arcade-it-up a little bit and make points, super-moves (THE UBER STITCH), and really stressful choices where you have to pick whether to save the mom or the baby, and either way you lose mega points.

:)
