Trenched - Doublefine's next game (Published / owned by Microsoft, XBLA exclusive)

Double Fine and Mecha?

Sold. I enjoy the simple pleasures in life.

That trailer actually looked better than I thought it would as well. Promising.

Surprised to see Microsoft buy the whole thing. That's crazy.

We only have this video ? No release, multiplayer, modes info ?

edit : There are screens on the website btw.

I can't be the only one that sees a tower defense game here, right? With you controlling a lone customizable mech fighting bug deals. They clearly show tower placement in that trailer.

Wow, Double Fine make different stuff every time. Nobody can moan at them for rehashing the same old franchises over and over.

I love me some Mech games and Trenched looks beautiful. This game needs co-op!!!!

It sounds like online coop is in : "side by side with allies all around the world".

And "stationary defenses" sounds like a Tower Defense aspect.

Wow, unexpected, but awesome looking. If anything, it gives me a Toy Soldiers "Serious warfare + Crazy fun game elements!" feel, and that's a great start.

If this makes up for the underproduced, half-hearted crap that was "War World", I'll be very happy. Been a long while since that came out, and so few attempts at mecha gameplay on XBLA since then...

Tower Defense elements + Mecha gameplay + Co Op all sounds like a fantastic mix.

Too bad about no PSN, I hope for Doublefine Microsoft spend some cash on it because to alienate 50% (probably less but still) potential buyers from your product is big.

Still looks fun for a while, nothing spectacular but a lovely in-between snack experience like Stacking and Costume Quest.

Stacking > Costume Quest > Brutal Legend

Hope the trend continues, but every time I see that Sesame Street game I cry a little.

Nithing wrond with a kids game, especially since the market (3-6 year olds) is seriously underserved.

.. You know who should make Stubbs the Zombie 2?

I like the way you think.

The game seems to be a cross between MechWarrior and tower defense.

It sucks that people won't get to play it on PSN but there's a lot of whining in this thread. It's not hard to justify buying a 360 nowadays. Buy consoles for games rather than games for consoles.

> Microsoft Game Studios
> Double Fine
> Not PC
Business as usual, I see. You stay classy Microsoft XBOX Game Studios.

On topic: game looks incredible.

Expect this will be gunning for this years "Monday Night Combat", Summer Of Arcade slot. Not a huge of fan of mech type games, but the trailer certainly perked my interest.

XBLA only?

Sigh.

I want to buy Double Fine's games, but no PC release will mean I'll only continue to only have played Psychonauts.

Personally I haven't been interested in anything they've done since psychonaughts I think they are way over rated. This one here though looks to be more up my alley. Looks like it' has some tower defense and dota elements in it as well.

They split their AAA game team into four smaller teams that didn't have to worry about sales nearly as much.

I'm glad to see they made it out after Brutal Legend undersold.

Though it kind of sounds like, from what you're saying, they had this huge team put together after BL and wanted to make four games to help keep them together before the layoffs happened.

That said, I still really want Costume Quest and I know I'll be getting Sesame Street for my kid and me to play together.

Microsoft can't catch a break on gaf. First it doesn't have any exclusives, now it's damn Microsoft for making it an XBLA exclusive. Too funny.

Looks like the move to DD was the absolute right move for Doublefine, as they've been pumping out games at a pretty decent clip. Still haven't gotten my hands on Costume Quest or Stacking yet though.:(

That mecha building/upgrade part reminded me of this old game where you could build and customize your airship, which was basicly a floating island.

It's a shame when threads get shitted up by people complaining about what platform a game is on.

The game has piqued my interest, and neither Costume Quest or Stacking managed that with their demos. Will wait and see with this.
