Triad Wars (Sleeping Dogs PC Online Game) Announcement on Monday

PC online game?

Ok, so I just clicked on that link provided above talking about making franchises "persistent online" crap. If Square somehow ruins Deus-Ex, Hitman, and Sleeping Dogs, I will seriously blacklist them for life. What the FUCK is this crap? A PC-only F2P garbage title? Fuck me.

I feel like every time Square makes a new online game, they yell, 'It's the new Minecraft!'
flops
'Make another one, and we'll surely hit the lottery this time!'

I just wonder what they mean by "Online".

Something like that crappy All Points Bulletin?

Or maybe something like Watch_Dogs or Dark Souls, where you can enter the "Singleplayer"-Experience of someone else.

Seems to me like it will end up being a third-person battle area set in the Sleeping Dogs universe. It will feature a brawling and shooting system vaguely reminiscent of Sleepy Dawgs, with none of the charm... since it will be a progression-based free-to-play multiplayer game, complete with pay-to-win bonuses and unlocks.

If we're really lucky it will have an open-world roaming aspect to further enable a cosmetic cash shop.

"Expect nothing. Deliver less."
-Square-Enix. (unofficial motto)

Hopefully we are still getting a Sleeping Dogs 2 :(

Square Enix: Guys! Guys!! I have the perfect idea for a game! It can't lose!

Sorry guys and girls for ruining your weekend :( But there is still hope right? Please tell me there is hope!

I mean, there could be a traditional SD sequel lined up as well. That would be great.

Unfortunately this industry seems set on breaking my heart so that ain't happening.

I really hope this isn't what they consider a sequel to the original game. Sleeping Dogs was great, and it'd be a huge shame if we didn't get a proper sequel. The franchise has potential, and it's very refreshing to move away from the typical American cities in a crime open world game.

I hadn't expecting it to be PC-only (at least initially), but it was pretty clear from the outset that this wasn't an actual sequel per se.

I...don't see any reason to be bothered by this announcement? Exactly what has everyone so upset?

So are you saying that the multiplayer online aspect of Sleeping Dogs was your favourite part of the game, and that you were hoping for more of it?

Huh.

(To answer your question: it's a betrayal of what Sleeping Dogs established as a franchise - an open-world, immersive action game.)

I didn't think Sleeping Dogs was an amazing SP game, so them going in a different direction has me interested more than a straight sequel would.

I can see it working really well with Just Cause because of the multiplayer mod for JC2. I can maybe see it working for Sleeping Dogs, but I'm not really all that sure about it.

I'd agree. The very clear next step is for Just Cause 3 to be multiplayer, as evidenced by the MP modd.

If it was free-to-play, though... that's where I'd draw the line.
