Tribes Ascend is now on Steam

About to buy the starter pack. I think.

Haven't put more than an hour into TA yet, but looking forward to playing it more,

the starter-pack worth it for a newcomer?

Just FYI, the 50% exp boost is nothing special to the starter pack. You get VIP status (that 50% boost) after you make any form of real-money purchase.

yes if you arent a fan of the quake style dont even think of trying it

What are you talking about? This game plays nothing like Quake. The game is fast, but it's not twitchy. And there are 9 different classes to choose from, many of which require very little speed.

Vindictus is also on Steam now. I'm glad some great F2P games are finally coming to Steam.

My buddies have been bugging me to try this for a while now. I download it, start it, and it freezes when I try to change resolutions. Awesome.

I've been launching Tribes through the steam client since day zero, so this is very welcome and natural change! Hopefully it translates into wider audience exposure and thus more people playing. Good stuff!

I say it's better to make any real-money purchase sooner than later if you plan on playing quite a bit. The reason being that, for any real-money purchase, you get +50% EXP on every match you play. In the long run, it makes quite a bit of a difference.

if you already have this on your hard drive, you can totally move the installation over into the Steam folder to avoid the download time

So, got the starter pack and have 1050gp total..

What should I spend it on?

New to F2P games in general, let alone trips.

Infiltrator sounds like it is up my ally, what would be a good loadout to buy for it? (assuming it is not a trash class)

Don't but stuff with gold immediatly. Play some hours with every class to see what suits you best. There is nothing worse than spending your gold now, only to find out later that you'll never play this class again

Game is pretty fun.

I refuse to pay on free 2 play games, though. We'll see.

Why would you outright refuse to pay? Why would you not support the developer IF you like the game? Nothing wrong with not spending a dime if you're just having ok fun, but if you really like the game, that is the way you can show it to them.

You can just earn regular XP to unlock the classes. It takes a bit more time, but it will also save that precious gold for 100k weapons. I have yet to spend a cent on this game but have unlocked over half the classes and have a complete pathfinder.

You don't have to pay, just earn things slower with regular in game earned xp. Plus once a day if your team wins a game you get 1200 xp.

The CTF in this game...so good. After 5 years of shitty TF2 stalemates, finally... something incredible.

Maybe a stupid question but I downloaded the game, played for a bit, enjoyed it so I bought the starter pack. How exactly do I redeem this?

right click the game in your game list, click properties, local files, verify integrity of game cache

It's already redeemed. The classes and items should be unlocked when you go in-game.

Hmmm it isn't applying. It claims it will apply on the first account logged in after the purchase but it isn't taking. Maybe I'll just wait for tomorrow and see if it clears up.

I didn't say it properly. I refuse to buy "spacebucks" to buy a weapon that can be acquired by playing.

The steam pack seems good and the game is solid, since it unlocks classes. I'll rethink about it after a couple days

Hm, I will have to try out some classes and see then. Any favs around here from vets?

I play a lot of CTF so Pathfinder is essential to capturing the flag. Doombringer is also nice for ctf as they provide force fields to block the flag. There a lot of infiltrators that sneak into bases and destroy enemy generators. Technician is also nice cause you cause set up turrets and spend the match getting points by repairing turrets and the generator. Most classes have their uses, honestly, well except soldier.

just deleted my old install and I am re-downloading on steam is that the correct way to do it?

Yes, it would have prompted you to delete it anyway.

In the world of speed, only the fastest survive.

Pathfinder with Egotistic. Aka, I'm gonna try to cap that flag within 20 seconds of the match starting >_<.

Its probably the most fun class to play all around, though its you're weakest in combat. You get to do all the fun stuff in the game.

People who REFUSE to spend money on a 'free to play' title are so adorable. Tribes Ascend is great and the devs deserve to be supported.
At least you buy the items and you can keep them forever, it's not those "have access to this item for 3 days!" types of deal.

Gotta say I am having a ton of fun at the moment. Learning curve is kind of steep, but I am improving quickly. So far I have been able to get quite a satisfactory amount of kills with the Stock Infiltrator.

I've been playing this game since beta, and one thing I can say for sure is that chain guns need extreme nerfing. Nothing gets passed a fucker who will just mow down anyone and anything with a chain gun. Automatic weapons could use a small nerf, too, but nothing as bad as chain gun, specifically.

This. Treat the game as a $60 title and you will get most of the unlocks.

Chain-guns are balanced for Capture the Flag, but unfortunaly they are OP in TDM.

Auto weaponry in general needs another swing with the nerf bat... and not to just have updated versions thrown in that return them right back to the original damage.
