Amazing burgers! average shakes. Beer served its purpose but nothing to worth writing about. Pricier than typical chain places but I think that is because of the angus.

how does this place compare to IN n out

I was really impressed with the Orlando location when we had the opportunity to go there about a year ago. It's pretty different from In'n'Out. That, 5 Guys, all three are really their own things. I would say In'n'Out has a similar flavor profile but is smaller and more fast food-y.

I know there are a couple Shake Shacks around ATL now, both have solid but not spectacular ratings on Yelp. If you happen to be in GA I'd be curious which you went to (or anyone else reading this) in the area.

Huh, I thought the opposite when I went a few months back. Average burger, amazing shake. I yet to try In N Out, but I like Five Guys better than SS

My favorite fast food, actually probably the only actual fast food I eat these days.

Their chicken sandwich is amazing too.

If your shake was "just OK" I think something went wrong, they're usually incredible. The beer, though, really is "just OK."

Give the shake another shot at some point. I didn't like it at all the first time I had it, but now I get it almost every time I go.

My sense is similar to 5 Guys since the burgers are cooked to order it's pretty dependent on who is cooking them. Like one 5 Guys can be amazing and the other can be not so good (in my experience).

My girl and I went to Bareburger recently and it was like a thousand dollars.

I didn't think it was any better than SS or 5guys. Which are better than fast food for sure but nothing amazing.

Bareburger is also tasty, but too expensive.

Of the chains I've tried, I think the ones that tasted best rank accordingly:

Shake Shack > Five Guys > Bareburger > In N Out

Yep, and their shakes are legit.

Love living in LA, so many burger options. I can walk to In and Out, Five Guys, Shake Shack, Umami or go a little more fancy with a Stout or Plan Check.

I prefer Shake Shack at the moment mostly because of the shakes and different burger options (like BBQ).

In-N-Out and Shake Shack are completely different, so comparing them doesn't make much sense. One is fast food the other is fast casual.

In-N-Out gets you the best <$5 burger you can get, but it's obviously not going to be a fair fight with a $6-8 burger. Though I haven't actually had Shake Shack. Smashburger, Steak 'n Shake, and Five Guys are all pretty good in my experience though.

The price is relatively meaningless to me in this instance because regardless of how much they cost, I still think Shake Shack is tastier.

On that basis alone I judge accordingly.

Some have mentioned Umami. Apparently one exists in Manhattan. I may try it.

they burgers had an off flavor

and way too little indoor seating

and nobody policing the indoor seating to kick out people just sitting and talking and not eating

and me about ten other people just holding our food waiting for a table to clear up so we could sit down and eat.

and overpriced

but other than that it was fine...I guess.

How can you even compare Shake Shack to In & Out, their burgers are so far from similar it's like comparing entirely different foods. In & Out is a good burger, but it's a fast food burger. Shake Shack is more like a sit-down restaurant burger. (prices also reflect this as others have pointed out)

I don't eat beef anymore but the one and only time I ate at Shake Shack I was like holy FUCK, the meat just like melted in my mouth. I thought Five Guys was good but Shake Shack was on another level.

I miss beef ):

All these chains use the same cooking technique of smashing the patty to sear and add seasoning salt on top of it.

You could learn to cook it yourself.
