Triforce Johnson: The world's most patient gamer [Polygon article]

Thinking about it, Triforce is basically the gaming world equivalent of a Z list celebritiy. So Polygon is striving to be on the same level as a gossip mag. Talk about ambition.

Can't wait for their next article on the Top 10 Most Embarrassing Stretch Marks Seen on Gaming Developers!

I know that Triforce gets a lot of hate and jokes at his expense, but I thought the piece Polygon did on him was cool. It was a unique slice of life (even though an very eclectic slice) piece that humanized the character that is Triforce. He does seem very sad about some of the decisions he's made in the past (mainly, the ones with his wife) but he seems to have learned from them and trying to finally get his life back in order. He realizes that he is at an age that lining up a month before a console comes out is ridiculous but he wants to end his 8 generation launch career on a eccentric high note.

Like i said anything involving triforce seems to show off one of the absolute worst traits of gaffers, their tendencies to outright judge people they do not know. It is a terrible habit to have and is the base of a ton of problems on this forum.

I loved how in the Nintendo World launch, Reggie made a surprise visit to those waiting in line on Friday at midnight.

He personally went up to fans and answered questions / talked about the system.

One of the things he asked was "Where's Triforce?"

It was so perfect. Triforce, the guy who was "number one in line," went home to go to sleep.
the video for that is pretty funny because it's apparent that Reggie ain't even mad.

I just finished King of Chinatown. I still think FGC is a bunch of weird kids trying to act street but I have a small amount of respect for Triforce now. I like what he had to say about being in control of your own destiny.

I... honestly kind of respect him and the passion that he has.

He's right, too. Almost everyone lives their life for the acceptance of others. We all do it in some forms. As little as we all might think we do, we do.

I'm honestly kind of envious of that..

uh what?

You're watching a documentary center on East Coast ghetto area. How do you expect them to act? Most of the FGC aren't trying to "act street."

Triforce has the opportunity to capitalize big but fucks up and blames all the corporate sponsors (EG in particular).

Competitive fighting game tournaments are definitely not street.

I think the fact that he expects a job with nintendo is the most delusional part of this whole thing.

I find it very disrespectful for him to say only a sucker works from 9 to 5. Not everybody can fool a bunch of people into joining a group, taking their money and living a stable life. That comment itself is an insult to his own father who was a single father working as a taxi driver.

That is not what he says, L2Read:

If you accept a nine-to-five and you're able to do better, then you're a sucker."

Which is actually true.

There are some members of the FGC that were "street". A few in the EC ghetto area. I know in socal, there used to be a bunch of Korean gangsters at FFA when FFA was big.

Yeah guys only a sucker would work at Goldman Sachs when they could be a gamestop sales associate

Why wait 5 years for career advancement to happen when you can wait in line for Nintendo products for 8?

sometimes it isn't about the money or the title that comes with it, though...

The guy has NO idea what a 'camp' out means. It means camping out, not leaving your spot. I've been to a ton of sneaker and clothing releases to know that once you get out of your seat, aside from using the bathroom, going to get food, etc, your spot is up for grabs.

This guy did nothing amazing. Did he even spend a full 24 hours on the street? I doubt it.

It didn't sound like he was able to according to how Nintendo rents the store front or some jazz.

I don't understand this concept of "do better" then.

Like I have no problem with people doing what they want and not doing what they don't want

I just think it's funny when how people in this thread are treating Triforce's ramblings as words of wisdom. Especially when they're contradicted by his actions

Say what?!

Try saying that shit in the streetz and watch we put you down with our MadCatz-47s, sucka.

Im confused by patience used here, surely if he was patient he'd walk calmy to a store to get a wii-u say next week, month or year

I didn't get my first gamecube till '09
Got my first DS in '06, didn't get a new DS then, until the 3DSxl came out surely thats patience?

Hell My sister had the NES (our first nintendo console in our house) in 1993, & swapped it in late 94/95 for our first ever gameboy

I waited for duke nukem & guns n roses releases respectively for over a decade

I've still not seen Avatar yet, but i will

My middle name should be patience i think

The irony of it is most people here are obsessed with something in their lives, whether its shoes, a rock band, a phone, etc., that they do crazy things for.

I am a gamer, also work retail at 27, and live at home with my parents. Plus I've never had a girlfriend. I feel miserable about it every day.

Judge me.
That was me 6 years ago. Then I got a girlfriend, found out they were not the whole world, we broke up, now I'l just 33 and live with my parents and work retail, and I have never been happier.
