Tron: Ares | Official Trailer

nobody knows about quorra, sam takes over encom but obviously he doesn't tell anybody about her so she can become some kind of labrat.

He probably doesn't even tell anyone about the grid until much later, or is forced to after the dillingers start developing their own grid/lasers, then the sister of the protagonist takes over from sam as he goes away for "personal reasons"; she and dillinger presumably start a tech race to get back to the grid and they succeed, but they are unable to take anything out of the grid and have it not de-res after a while because they are programs and not ISO's like quorra, so the tech is kinda useless until ares.

Imagine 29 minutes after the credits roll in Legacy ;)

Youtube pointed this video out. To bad they didn't go with this
"The Forgotten TRON Sequel That No One Talks About"

The setup that was produced for the next movie.
"Tron: the next day"

Then how did she?

She was born in the grid, probably had the code in her

Tron the next day actually plays mostly between tron and legacy, only the end bit is right after legacy; it's on the blu-ray.
They were writing/rewriting scripts for like 5 years after legacy but nothing came of it, so they either had the choice of making a sequel but somehow pretend no time passed even though everyone is 14 years older now, or move time ahead from after sam took over.

Actually that's pretty good logic, she was life from inside the grid, randomly created. Not only that but on the exit portal they needed Flynn's disc to make it work, so your right. One or the other, or combination of the two things.

Also that limit wasn't there before ;) (I feel that was like a rectcon) CLU was going to have his army pass to the real world, it would have been a real bummer for him :messenger_tears_of_joy:

You know, Jared Leto may be difficult to work with, lack any charisma to speak of, and is likely a cult leader of underage girls, but he also can't act at all.

I forgot where I was going with this.

The trailers barely even show Jared Leto doing anything other than posing like he's in Zoolander. Even though he's the lead. Major red flag.

Watched it this evening, Arse/10

The best thing Jared Leto ever starred in was Blade Runner 2049, and even then he only got the part because David Bowie died

It's sad and creepy but things like "I was 16 when he approached me in a cafe and 'got my number', then called me for weeks", yo girl, YOU GAVE HIM YO NUMBER AND KEPT ANSWERING HIS CALLS, take some damned responsibility if you are gonna put him on blast years later. Like, did he even know her age?

And he's 53??? Damn, I'm not a big fan of his acting but I am a fan of his skin care routine!

The movie is actually quite fun, and ended up being much better than I expected it to be. Great visuals, fun music, a decent 'next movie' in the series, and best of all, Leto doesn't wreck it. He really played his character well and I'd argue he was one of the better parts of it. It's a shame that it's trending towards being a flop, since the ending was a pretty good setup for more.

I thought he was really good in The Little Things. He might not have been acting though.

Not surprised whatsoever.

TRON as a franchise was very much a thing of its time, as I've said in the past its whole iconography was based on where videogames were a few years before. Light Cycles = Snake, Power Discs = Pong, etc.

This made sense at the time, but now... Only older gen X'rs would get the conceit, and they've been so alienated by Woke Disney that they are basically disinterested in present day output.

Ergo: A movie with no audience beyond the handful of fans of the mediocre sequel from a few years back.

Everything Leto is in is just pure shit

He needs to fire his agent.

Leto can act. Lord of War, Requiem for a Dream and Dallas Buyers Club (which he won a well deserved Oscar for) are some examples his acting skills.

However, I'd say around 2016 his choice of roles have taken a nose dive. Either he doesn't care and is just taking these roles to get pad, or he has the worst agent in Hollywood.

Isn't he busy being a cult leader. I skipped this on account of my irrational hatred of nine inch nails.

He picks movies just fine. Also did Fight Club, American Psycho, House of Gucci, Blade Runner 2049. I think his only true misstep is Morbius, but he probably got a large pay day for being the lead in a super hero movie.

Pre 2016 he mostly picked his movies correctly. After that, I think only BR2049 was a decent role.

Morbius, Suicide Squad, The Outsider, The Little Things......shite.

House of Gucci was gash as well. Those fake Italian accents were ridiculous.

He's 53!!??? I thought he was like 37

I did myself the favor of setting my expectations so incredibly low that the movie actually exceeded them.
Visuals were great, soundtrack was great (miss me with the vocals on a TRON soundtrack though, DP was better), Jeff is always a treat, some cool nostalgia callbacks.
Story was terrible, acting was passable. Sark stinger was cool, this is bombing terribly so I guess it'll never amount to anything.

Got back from watching it in IMAX 3D and I thought it was really good, enjoyed this the most of the big budget films this year. 3D was also really good there was a lot of consideration for it. Leto playing an emotionless NPC is unironically perfect casting.

Went in mostly blind from reviews so will be interesting to see what they hated so much about this movie. RT is showing very high audience score so could be one of those situations where the critics were off.

Should I re-watch Tron Legacy before watching this? I completely forgot anything about that movie.
yes/no .. the beginning of the movie there are clips of "throwing out" all the stuff from legacy... Sure it will help to rewatch it. The movie has a few member berries in it.

He was able to act. He hasnt acted well in ages.

Saw the movie.

To sum it up in two ways:

1) This is a 2010s Sony scifi movie that somehow found itself within Disney's offices.
2) I could feel the cuts of content.

Anyone remember movies like Dark Tower with Idris Elba? Very similar feelings here, all the way down to the fantasy world being brought over into the real world and causing chaos in the third act, and just like that movie, there were cool concepts presented but It was all watered down and mashed within a simplistic 95 minute film.

That's Tron: Ares.

Also, same with Dark Tower, I could tell they cut up to either 30 minutes or an hour of much contextual material that would have brought the movie up a point or two at least. And the biggest factor in why I feel this way with Tron: Ares is Cameron Monoghan:

One of the top billed names listed in the movie, at the world premiere event, and then he is barely in the movie for almost 30 seconds?

i-dont-believe-you-lies.gif

With zero buildup he's called a 'malfunctioning program' who Ares felt something for, turned around to save, and that moment managed to help influence Ares' big choice in the first third of the movie? ...In 30 seconds?

i-dont-believe-you-lies.gif

This wasn't the only moment, but it was a big one where I just felt 'wait what?' as the movie quickly moved forward to it's next act. "Can't spend too long on it because time's ticking and this has to be 2 hours long...see you at the director's cut!" Due to this, certain plot points that could have been expanded upon felt surface level and quickly explained away. I bet there's a whole extra 30 minutes to the first half of this movie that completes it, but we won't see it unless Disney decides to show it.

Aside from that, again I didn't feel this was awful, but I just felt it was average with cool concepts, as 2010s Sony movies tended to be. Entertaining but forgettable. Reviewers rated this low because they had moved past this era of mediocre sci-fi action adventure films with mega budgets, and I think it's time studios start moving past it as well so money can stop being wasted.

My rating of this is a C. I guess if you're a Tron fan (I'm indifferent towards the property) I can understand why this is infuriating enough to give a D or lower, because you didn't ask for a mediocre sci-fi action adventure film with tron aesthetics thrown into it.

Maybe I'll raise my personal rating a bit if I ever get to see that director's cut.

His band seem to be more popular than you might think - they play arenas and stadiums. I presume those fans must show up for his films too. Looking at his filmography, he doesn't appear to have been in much that has generated acclaim, but if an audience shows up, that's a fairly big deal when making mainstream movies.
He got an oscar for his trans role in Dallas Buyer's club tho.

I think he just is one of those guys loved by the film industry for reasons us normal people can't fathom.

If you are more than 40 yo and the girl below 20 don't look like children to you, the problem of course lies with you not them.
