TronicsFix - Did I Fix PS5 Coil Whine?

Seems to fix it but I probably wouldn't do it my self. At least now there is irrefutable proof of what is causing it.

It's embarrassing that YouTubers can solve this but world-class architect Cerny and all those sony engineers can't figure it out. I myself am not gonna attempt to fix this

The problem isn't that Cerny cannot fix it. He can and probably new the fix right away. The problem is cost and the initial batch of consoles. This will undoubtedly get fixed in future batches at some point if it becomes a large enough problem. It just isn't a problem at this point. It's not like the RROD where everybody either had it or knew somebody who had it. This is under 5%, probably under 2% at this point.

Well I think most people wouldn't even notice it. But it's not really an issue per say, just annoying.

Cerny needs to fix this at once. Maybe they can get extra headset sales from this on the other hand? Either way, no one should ever cheap out on their PSU.

Well, it's a bit dangerous for him to be fixing electronic things while in his bathtub.

why did he cut, do that for?

The interesting and foremost scary thing is, that some circuits powered by DC start humming. Some noises are simply extremely obscure mechanical resonances without AC.

Sony used bargain basement shit again, like the cheap ass dust buster fans in the PS4 Pro.

Kind of feel bad for Cerny a mad genius hitching his horse to the bargain basement corner cutting fuckers of Sony PlayStation brand. I really don't get why Sony runs the entire PlayStation brand so cheaply from the consoles themselves to the trash headphones when Sony itself makes amazing AVRs amazing headphones and spectacular TVs.

But at the end he could not completely fix the issue. Maybe MS has engineering wizards when they made the XSX silent.

Not sure why the blame is pointed at Cerny. Cerny being the lead architect doesn't mean he's makes decisions on every aspect of the PS5. Just like he didn't design the look and cooling system, doubt he was involve down to component level stuff like what capacitors to buy. Nonetheless, a team at Sony did make these decisions and it was to cut cost. Depending on the percentage they might make changes or deem it as within acceptable defective rate.

It's supplied by 3rd party manufacturers if you ever read about how HW is made.

If the coil whine can be reduced by a lot it may not longer be audible in side the case and with the hum of the fan and that would be enough I guess. It's possible to to eliminate coil whine but it may require more expensive high quality components.
