Trump attacks China in yet another Twitter outburst

They don't trust the "experts" or the "media" or the "intellectuals"

fighting them is generally a lost cause and it's up to them (gulp) to open their mindset

And where have we seen this play out before? We are like 10 years from them being jail by the morons, at this rate

Scary fucking shit people are wanting to relive the nightmare of fascism again in less than 100 years.

Ignorance, leading to stupid people making stupid choices out of fear, hate and lack of ability to cooperate with others. Human race deserves this shit honestly. If we survive this brain dead nonsense again with nuclear proliferation as it is I'll be surprised.. bunch idiots on a fast train to Armageddon hoping to see their deity or some shit.

We need another thousand or two years of evolution to grow out of it, if, we make it that far with the level of stupidity in about half of the world as it stands.

I guess I thought I saw people/there's sentiment in here denying that the media at large supported Clinton over Trump--or that the large investment they made in reporting Trump affairs means that they actually supported Trump--but maybe I'm wrong.
There is a degree of nuance here that you're missing. The executives of cable news generally favored Trump reporting because it made them a lot of money from the sheer circus act. TV spent very little time on substance, and that was their real failing.

Reporting of Trump in print was generally negative because it reflects reality. However the press just didn't go far enough to challenge the complete and utter fabrications on one side. The vast quantity of editorials supported Clinton because they noted that Trump was a terrible candidate. That reporting remains just as true today as it did then.

This is going to be strange years. To think most of the old whites that voted for Trump are not on the Internet to even know about his tweet habits.

Pretty sure only 1 was in circulation. The two covers was their excuse after.

But it's pretty normal for big press companies to have two covers/articles prepared for scenarios like this. I can guarantee there were articles/content ready for if the Indians beat the Cubs this year in the world series. When there is a very small, very finite amount of possibilities it only benefits media companies to prepare for both because the longer it takes for them to get out relevant content the less likely someone is to read it.

Here's a mentalfloss article about what happens to the shirts for whatever team loses the super bowl, world series, etc.

100% disagree. You give him far too much credit.

I hate that people think he's just doing this to 'distract' from other things. It gives him too much credit. He's not a fucking genius. If all his twitter shit is 'distractions' then he's been distracting people his whole life, every fucking day with shit like that. It's just who he is. He adores the attention and the retweets. His followers send him worship there. It's his thing.

Also, in regards to shit like this, we are so very fucked, yes.

I didn't mean that he was doing it on purpose - I just meant that he tweets so much garbage that it actually distracts from the horrible stuff that he does day to day. He's not smart enough to actually be orchestrating this.

US President-elect Donald Trump has posted a series of tweets criticising China for its monetary policy and its operations in the South China Sea.
"Did China ask us if it was OK to devalue their currency" and "build a massive military complex?" he asked. "I don't think so!"
China said both sides should "stick to basic principles" of the relationship.
Last week Mr Trump risked a diplomatic rift with China by speaking directly with Taiwan's president.
The highly unusual move saw China lodge a complaint with the US.
In response to the latest tweets, without directly referring to them, the Chinese foreign ministry said the US and China have long had "highly mutually beneficial" relations.
A spokesperson declined to comment on "he and his team's method and what's the thinking behind it", referring to Mr Trump.

I can't believe a president-elect is having a twitter wars with other countries. I thought his team took away his phone.
It's OK, since it's China, a country that manipulates its currency.

Don't really want a US president who's cozy with China.

Of course. But its still pretty funny that they only printed the Hilary version. In the tweet, Newsweek completely threw Topix media under the bus and said they had nothing to do with commemorative covers. Really newsweek, really?

Actually unless my google fu has failed me it doesn't look like they ever printed the trump cover, even after recalling the hilary one.

The saga continues as Trump triples down

Donald Trump questions US commitment to 'One China' policy - https://www.google.com.sg/amp/s/amp...-commitment-to-one-china-policy?client=safari

In an interview with Fox News, the president-elect said he saw no reason why the US should continuing abiding by the “One China” policy – by which Taiwan is officially considered part of the same single Chinese nation as the mainland – unless Beijing was prepared to enter into some kind of bargain.

“I don’t know why we have to be bound by a ‘One China’ policy unless we make a deal with China having to do with other things, including trade,” Trump told the channel on Sunday.

Orville Schell, the head of the Centre on US-China Relations at New York’s Asia Society, said Trump’s latest comments - which the academic described as an “incredible provocation” - were the latest example of the billionaire’s contradictory moves towards China.

“He sometimes punches Beijing and he sometimes seems to reach out and hug them. The phone call to Tsai Ing-wen would be the former. Terry Branstad would be the latter. Now we have another uppercut,” he said of the Fox News interview.

.
“China should be prepared to accompany Trump on a roller coaster ride for Sino-US relations. We must buckle up, as should others around the world,” it said.

Schell said it was hard to predict how Beijing might respond to Trump’s latest gambit.

“I don’t know what Beijing is going to make of this because they have always dealt with these very square, proper people like Obama and Hillary Clinton who have always sought to keep the US policy relatively constant. And here you have someone who is doing the absolute opposite,” he said.

“I think they will be very careful about responding because in a certain sense they are meeting a brinksman just like themselves….[and] I don’t know what a brinksman or a bully does when they meet another brinksman and a bully. [Violence] would be one option, but very often one of them backs down.”

No sure if you are being sarcastic but there is a difference is calling out another country on twitter and being cozy with them. There is something called diplomacy.

If the CCP trots out the line "you have hurt the feelings of the Chinese people" I'll believe them this time.

They really take the concept of One China seriously. In my anecdotal experience even the most timid of Chinese people get angry if you dare question that policy.

So we have a North Korea which may be able to strike the US mainland with nukes, and Trump is repeatedly antagonizing the one country which may be able to reign NK in?

Cool.

“I don’t want China dictating to me and this was a call put in to me,” Trump said. “It was a very nice call. Short. And why should some other nation be able to say I can’t take a call?”

“I think it actually would’ve been very disrespectful, to be honest with you, not taking it,” Trump added.

“We’re being hurt very badly by China with devaluation, with taxing us heavy at the borders when we don’t tax them, with building a massive fortress in the middle of the South China Sea, which they shouldn’t be doing, and frankly with not helping us at all with North Korea,” he told Fox News.

“You have North Korea. You have nuclear weapons and China could solve that problem and they’re not helping us at all.”

Nick Bisley, an international relations expert from La Trobe University in Melbourne, said: “The signal Trump is sending to China is: ‘You are not going to push us around; you are not going to dictate terms; we are going to be the ones who dictate terms to you’. And he’s also signalling, whether deliberately or not, that there are no sacred cows in US foreign policy, whether in Asia or anywhere else.”

Bisley said Trump’s early moves would have China’s leaders, who had anticipated dealing with a predictable “Obama 3.0” under a Clinton administration, scratching their heads.

This guy needs to shut his trap. He is old but acts like a immature child. Where is your temperament, and wisdom Trump? Stop letting your mouth control you, before you really screw us with it.

The most stupid thing about this is that this isn't just something the political class cares about. Your average mainland Chinese person can get very fired up when talking about the One China policy.

He thinks he can win a game of chicken with China.

Does the orange fool not understand that China is GM's largest market and Apple's second largest market? Does he not understand that companies like Walmart, Nike etc all rely on China in order to keep on being healthy and successful? Why is this guy trying to tweak something that has been working for a very long time? Bloody fucking hell this guy will probably lay the foundations for the next world war. Unbelievable.

Yep, there were boycotts of Japanese cars, restaurants and clothing stores just because of provocations over uninhabited rocks (Senkaku/Diaoyu islands). China can do a lot of damage to American brands if they wanted, but Trump is so out there that maybe the companies can distance themselves from Trump.

Either the answer is yes but he still thinks they would chicken out, or the answer is no, which means he would chicken out.

And if he doesn't back pedal, he'll escalate.

Just impeach his ass when he gets in and put Pence there. Domestically, he's no better, but he'll be miles better with foreign policy at least.

I just hope its all talk cuz the last thing the world needs is a trade war between China and the US.

That shit escalated fast
Well thats the fucking problem with playing this sort of game with China. When it comes to the One China Policy the Chinese do not fucking play around and to think that Trump doesn't seem to understand that is remarkable. This is taught to Secondary School Social Studies students.

Looking back on this one day, people may say to themselves that Trump could have understood the consequences of his China tantrums.

If he had only received his daily intelligence briefings.

Which school did you go to?

Mine in Florida never covered anything like this.
