Trump statement on Russian hacking following Friday's Intelligence Community briefing

Sigh.
Trump's email servers were also vulnerable.

Wasn't it proven that there was only an "attempt" by trying to phish 1 guy who didn't work there anymore, then they gave up? You know, like a "I swear we tried" kinda thing
Yea

An attempt was made to someone who was no longer at the rnc

Hacking had no effect on the american voters. Hillary Clinton; however, endangering classified information on an unsecured email server, did. Nobody cares about Podesta's pizza recipes. Nobody cares about DNC Shultz. What destroyed her was herself.

This is complete bullshit. The constant drip of emails kept them in the media day after day, regardless of how innocuous the emails actually were. All kinds of conspiracy theory bullshit was being spread all over FB and Twitter, from pizzagate to spirit cooking and everything in between. What it did was propagate and reinforce the already present belief that Hillay=corrupt in many peoples minds, which could easily have caused tangible impacts in voter turnout. It's not like Trump won by millions of votes, he won because of <100k votes across several states. And if we're talking about the DNC hacks, that was the primary force that created the divide between Democrats. Bernie bro's were jerking themselves off all over that shit claiming proof the DNC was rigged. It was a perfect storm of a optics nightmare.

While his statement downplays the effects of the hacking too much - all in all it's a more reasonable statement than I would have expected.

That's the issue, it's a completely fucking stupid statement on multiple levels but it comes across as reasonable to the uninformed which will make moderates help rally behind him.

It is not reasonable, it is nothing more than this:

My post had nothing to do with actual evidence. I'm just telling why inner city people and probably a lot of other folks didn't trust her. Probably contributed to the number of people who didn't vote. I don't know these numbers, just speculating.

I think we're saying the same thing. Obviously, you're much more informed.

I wonder what it's like for a group of intelligence agency heads to talk to a brick wall for however long that took.

Most people I talked to didn't know the difference between the hacked emails and the email server. They (understandably) lumped them together, and the media helped them.

Trump: Okay, so it turns out there was hacking, but it TOTALLY didn't affect the election guyz! TRUST MEEEE!

A lot of bad news for Trump in the last 3 days. That motherfucker is having a meltdown on twitter, too. It feels like shit is coalescing to a point were that piece of shit might get into trouble sooner than later.

You just have to look at his life and businesses.

He has proven with out a shadow of a doubt that he is fucking incompetent, insecure as hell and petty as hell.

At the moment he gets to play president with out being president and its all fun and games.

I suspect we've seen nothing of the coming shit show of when he is actually president.

But it really depends on what you mean by "trouble"

So...

- Deflect by saying it's more than Russia
- Deflect by saying they didn't hack ballot boxes (which wasn't even what the claim was)
- "Verify" it didn't make our election less "free and fair"
- Say the RNC is strong
- Say the DNC are losers
- Don't expect any transparency on issues like this under my administration
- Now let us never speak of this again

MAGA!!!! TRUMP TRAIN!!!!!!!!

Furthermore the sheer audacity to claim that Hillary's initial email scandal (i.e. not all the other added bullshit on to it) had an effect while the Russian hacking didn't have any effect despite neither being quantifiable is hilarious.

What was the general consensus among Repubs at the end of Bush 8 years? I mean, they aren't all stupid, we have to assume they won't all be fooled by Trump the entire time he's president?

I still can't believe that a reality TV show real estate mogul is the President.

Her email scandal was directly tied to the hacks.

trump spin...this is actually pretty tempered compared to the crap he's always tweeting though. which means he didnt write this

It is not reasonable, it is nothing more than this:

It's not:

"While Russia, China, other countries, outside groups and people are consistently trying to break through the cyber infrastructure of our governmental institutions, businesses and organizations including the Democrat National Committee, there was absolutely no effect on the outcome of the election including the fact that there was no tampering whatsoever with voting machines. There were attempts to hack the Republican National Committee, but the RNC had strong hacking defenses and the hackers were unsuccessful.

This is the first time he publicly aknowledged that Russia is attacking the United States. This is unpresidented.

He said things like "It could be Russia" before.

I don't know about that, but in this statement he's quite specific.

Also, his team could've written that before the briefing just as well. There is no new information, no insight nothing.

And what's with Trump's great info that only he was privy to? Where is that?

It's not:

The consensus will be whatever is convenient. If there's a nice narrative that Trump was an effective president, they will all be right in line behind him. If the prevailing opinion of the public is that he sucks shit, many of them will be very quick to turn on him. We already know they don't like him, they made that plenty clear during the primaries. They're just toeing the party line until it's beneficial to them not to do so.

Trump basically went to the meeting - probably at the behest of his advisors - with only one question in mind: Did Russians hack our election and changed the votes? CIA of course said no, and thats all Trump took away from it.

As they did after Bush, they'll find a candidate to run against all of the groper's positions (while somehow being worse), all while blaming Democrats for his administration's failures/wars.

I'm not saying it's a great message, but if we're grading on a scale and recognizing how awful Trump is then this is not so bad.

The praise of the intelligence community, for example, was a welcome change from the last few days.

I have to imagine it would be hard not to brief Donald in a non-patronizing way.

Does the evidence now make sense to you?

Yes, but this doesn't mean that Hillary would have won without the hacking. So this doesn't mean anything.

Please look at the evidence. Do you think it may be wise to publicly agree with the intelligence community and tell the Russians that this will not be tolerated in the future?

Can we just not talk about this anymore?

He has the same script... talking mad shit about a person or group, then meeting with them, then kissing their ass. In the end it seems like push comes to shove he's super eager to please anyone he perceives as powerful; which gives me a smidgen of hope. Unfortunately as soon as any of those people even come close to criticizing him he goes on a Twitter tirade.

This CONTINUED line from Trump/Trump supporters blows my fucking mind.

Nobody is claiming this. This doesn't excuse a PROVEN, CONCENTRATED effort on the part of a foreign government to influence the outcome of the U.S. Presidential election. Holy fucking shit.

I can't even think of an analog hypothetical to explain how batshit this line of thinking is.

It was year 6 before they stopped strongly aligning themselves with W. Now they pretend like he never even existed and he just stays in the background.

Good to hear. I don't have a problem with people taking contrarian positions, but he took it to such an extreme and would excuse all sorts of Trump behaviors even when they were clearly indefensible.

Don't forget posting and never returning. Surprised he continue to post in that thread. Moving on.

This is an impossible statement to prove. He's just blowing hot air because he doesn't like his win being delegitimized.

Actually it's easy to prove.

Trump won by 55 million votes and 500 electoral college votes, and he won because Crooked Hillary was the worst candidate ever and everyone hates her and it's only because of Trump's magnanimity she hasn't been executed yet. QED.

Well, at least they got him to admit the DNC was hacked by Russia.
: /

He did not say that. He said countries such as Russia are trying to break in constantly. He did not say that Russia did it successfully/in this instance.

Guys, I think Stump's been hacked by the Russians. Please don't throw me in the GAF Gulag!

And our pathetic media will eat it up like the shit-eating flies they are, then move on like the hacking story is solved and over with.

Now, on to Kanye...

What more would you have Trump (or even Obama) do at this point? The best thing we can do is improve our defense towards this type of thing and prevent it from happening in the future. We aren't going to start firing bombs at Russia over Podesta's gmail account.

...there was absolutely no effect on the outcome of the election...

And WHAT investigative committee came to that conclusion?

The Trump Campaign Committee?

How the fuck can he make a statement like that without any proof showing otherwise?

Gotta punctuate with #MAGA.

That's how it's really done.

For starters, it would be great if Trump actually acknowledged that Russia was behind the hacking as our intelligence community has determined, instead of continuing to obfuscate that fact with "well, everyone tries to hack us!"

Makes him look guilty as hell continuing to sympathize with and defend Putin.

Trump could, at least, uphold Obama's sanctions.

What does this mean?

He wont want to talk about what he's doing about it 90 days from now. In other words, "sorry media, people, congress, I can't talk about what we're doing as it would reveal our methods" and in reality he can do nothing at all and give Russia a pass.
