Turning the Music Off

I cant see turning off the music in Dead Space or Resident Evil...or any survival horror for that matter. Its there to ratchet up the tension, cause suspense, or just might give you that extra push during a boss fight. Its not always about immersion though, sometimes the tracks are just really great compositions, especially the Halo and Half Life series as of late.

Now if the soundtrack really sucks compared to the rest of the game, then custom soundtracks for me. But I cant see someone playing the radio or something over a game soundtrack (say while playing Street Fighter or Tekken).

Uf.. I don't agree AT ALL. But I however respect your opinion 100%. And that's my point; Pig-headed developers should lighten up and give us the option so that all kinds of gamers can immerse themselves the best way possible, and to enjoy their games. I mean, how fucking hard can it be?

Yes, and it was good.

I noticed this for New Vegas as well. Sure it's nice to hear Mr. New Vegas telling you about your accomplishments in the past, or hearing Primm Slim's public appeasement oration in between their selections of music, but the non-radio music they have is more fitting to the atmosphere, especially in the endgame. I'm sure it gets overlooked far too often, when it's obvious a lot of work went into it.

I always thought about trying this in some games. A lot of fps games in particular when so much is going on and I have the music up, it's kinda hard to hear the characters talk and what's going on.

I might finally do a play through on Fallout 3. The music was horrible to me.

I think the music was better in Fallout NV, since they reused some themes from Fallout 1 and 2 (which had awesome/fitting music).

I don't usually turn off the music, unless it's something that I have heard countless times.

However, I do find lots of games put the music way too high in the mix and it can sometimes be hard to hear the dialogue, so one of the first things I do when I play a game is turn the music level down to about half of what the default is.

Now thats something i'll do. Sometimes the sound mix is abit off where you have to adjust the volume levels yourself.

Only in games with shitty licensed music (which happens to be nearly all racers). God I wish I could turn off the title screen music in NFS Hot Pursuit.
