Turok Dinosaur Hunter is today's Wikipedia's featured article.

Did anyone actually complete this game without cheats? I remember it being tough as nails.
Yeah I did but I was a lot more willing to put up with nonsense then, than I am now. I remember some particularly tough platforming sections (like hopping onto small rocks moving up and down over lava pits.)

FYI, Jeff Spangenberg of Iguana Entertainment, the makers of Turok, would go on to found Retro Studios.

I miss Acclaim, Extreme G, Forsaken and Turok =/.

Forsaken that is it! I've been trying to think of the name of this game all week. I remember buying it when postal 1 came out at the mall. I bought this cool track ball style mouse just to play forsaken with. Thanks man, memories.

Edit holy shit the box cover, man so many memories. I forgot this was even on consoles, fuckkk yeah!

I remember getting this game for Christmas the year it was released. It was the first fps that I had ever played. I sucked really bad at it so I got one of those N64 cheat code books. Good times.

Acclaim's list of titles is not that extensive, but growing up in the 16-bit era, it seemed like their name was everywhere.

And don't forget one of their better products; Shadowman.

I borrowed Turok from a friend and loved it. I waited excitedly for Turok 2 and got it and it was probably the most fun I had had with a FPS up to that time. Expansion Pak for hi-rez graphics, yo.

We spent a lot of time playing multiplayer as well. Cerebral Bore going into the monkey in monkey mode was fantastic.

loved all the turok games on the 64, friends and I really got into rage wars, the achievements were great

who can forget monkey tag or whatever in turok 2, that shit was awesome haha

also turok 2 had one of the best soundtracks for the time, especially on the 64

With a fan pointed directly at the N64 from a foot away or it'd freeze up after a few minutes. =D

Not just that, but I recall as recent as DKCR that A LOT of Iguana folks are/still there.

I should go back and check, MobyGames has the credits so it'll be a snap.

Edit: Checked, and to my surprise, it has a lot of Ultima folks. Only two folks who worked on Vexx and a Turok game seem to be there other than Kynan Pearson who's now at 343i IIRC, might've been different before.

A few months ago, I played the first and second level of Turok 2 on my N64. It still really is a lot of fun, but the framerate drops so deep so often that I actually got nausea from it. That and level 2 had only two , rather hidden save stations in a level that took me three hours to get through.
I'm trying to find Turok:Dinosaur Hunter for the N64 or PC. I had it for the PC, but lost it. The german version, which replaces the humans with robots, which is, in my opinion, just more awesome. I know that I have beaten Turok 1 on Normal with no cheats, and it wasn't really hard for me.

Turok 2 in 1998 with the Expansion was crazy.

Remember when Nintendo Power held a contest to be a character in T2? Some kid won but they ended up just using his face on coins (cheat code HEEERESJUAN)

My clearest memory of Turok is becoming so motion sick I had to lay down because of the frame rate and fog. That and Turok screaming as he fell to his death over and over and over.
