TV-age: How can I fix this? (Pics included)

(Please don't say "BUY A NEW ONE" :D)

I have a 27" Sony Wega TV. I've read on various websites (be it a review, consumer feedback, etc.) that the problem is because of a design flaw with the TV.

What happens is on very bright scenes (usually only white, sometimes really light tan) these pinkish/purpleish streaks appear. You really can't notice it -- at all -- when you're doing anything else though, which is weird.

Here's an example:

And a negative image to really show it:

If I take this to a repair shop can they just wave a magnet over it and eliminate the problem? Or is this a more serious flaw for those of you who are good at identifying TV flaws?

btw, there are no external speakers near it.

My TV does the same thing... sometimes it's purple, yellow, or green. But as I'm moving out of here in a few weeks and chucking the thing anyway, I'm not looking to get mine fixed.

So, uh, bump? :(

I used to have this same problem, and was told that the "magnetic fields in the Earth" were disrupting my picture.

No joke.

Anyway, just move your TV to a new location, and your set should be fine. Worked for an older CRT I bought a few years back, and a newer Samsung SlimFit I bought last Christmas.

Assuming, of course, this is the same problem. :/

I've moved it a couple times, didn't make a difference. :\

lolz @ "MAGNETIC FIELDS IN THE EARTH." :lol I believe you, it's just that I would start laughing if someone said that to me face to face.

I know it's a design flaw, but I'm trying to determine basically if other gaffers have had this problem, and if it was fixable with a magnet repair method. If not, that tells me the electron gun is messed up or something, and that just sucks.

I had the same thing happen with my old 27" Sharp TV. Everyone I talked with thought it had to do with external speakers being too close it, but the only other electronics in the room with it were a DVD player, Xbox, PS2 and a Gamecube.

I always figured it was getting old (bought it in 2000).

If you're talking about that band on the bottom, I don't think that's magnetic. It doesn't look like it anyway.

A. The Earth *does* have a magnetic field.

B. If a TV has been in one position for a long time and is moved, it can affect the picture because the relation to the Earth's magnetic field has changed.

Mine has done it since day 1. Well, close enough TO day 1. I didn't notice until a couple months later.

The shadow: The band at the bottom is just how the photo was taken.

I totally believe you about the magnetic field, but this is a well known problem among those who have the same TV, so I was wondering if anyone else here knew how it could be fixed as it IS a design flaw.
