TV shows that deserved more love.

I remember one that was really good on CW.

I think it was called Coming to America. A sitcom about an islamic exchange student coming to america. Had some pretty tight writing and good acting/comedy. I tihnk it got shitcanned because there was a huge stink about the kid being muslim and stereotyped or some bullshit.

Also, Kyle XY seemed pretty sweet for what I watched. Didn't get too far, though. Need to rewatch it.

The series that set the Fox tradition.

Create a fantastic series.

Then cancel after one season.

Does it get less CBSish?

It's still a feel good story, with some drama, but it does have death/fighting/etc unlike most CBS dramas.

So yeah, I'd say last half is a lot different than most. Did you get to the part with the Ravenwood(think that's what they were called) story arc? Town thinks these mercenaries are here to help, but have to run them out/etc. I think that's where all the cool shit happened. Then it gets more james bondishy as well with the black dude and government conspiracy shit too.

Only character I really loathed throughout that whole show was that dumbass kid who takes over the town's shop. God damn he was stupid.

I think I made it between 6-8 episodes and I think the other town stuff was just beginning... It just didn't have the characters at that point to make me care.

I'll give it another shot because I like Skeet Ulrich.

how the hell did no one mention:

so far-.-

edit: looking at the post again, looks like someone did, i missed it, my bad^^

then again it probably needs repeating

oh another show I remembered:

sob for canceling this

That show sorta fell off the wagon after about a season and a half. Fox's treatment of it wasn't great, but it was ready to hit the pasture by the time it did get cancelled.

Dark Angel, that is.

One of my favorite '90s sitcoms -- and almost gleefully dated now -- largely due to Thomas Haden Church's completely unhinged character. The scripts came loaded with lunacy and non-sequitor (a few of which were written by Charlie Kaufman) and so many of the plots involved absurd levels of loathing, bitterness and venom that it was practically doomed from the start.

Yeah. I find it hard to rewatch this show after the bitter taste the second season left me.

Firefly and Space Above and Beyond.

It seems that the great SF TV shows get canned early, whereas the shit muppetty bollocks runs and runs...

Ahahaha, I thought that post of Sarah Connor Chronicles was a post for Dark Angel. How did I get those confused?

Oh yeah, Dark Angel too. Back when Jessica Alba had a bit more meat on her bones and a better hair colour. 16-year-old me was so in love with her then...

Off the top of my head:

Carnivale: great show, great characters and one of the best bad guys ever (Brother Justin)

Blade: By the end of the season it had really come into its own, also Marcus Van Sciver(sp) was a great bad guy.

Moonlight: Never understood why this was cancelled as it was very enjoyable.

Blood Ties: Started off a bit unsure but just like Blade by the end had found its footing and was getting better and better.

Agreed - one of the best TV shows to come out in the past 5 years and it was canned before it really got started. Had some good writing, good cast and an excellent over arching story.

iv been watching this show on channel 13....but since they show it on Wednesday i was watching Human Target then the Unit(because they show 2 hours in a row).

i hope HUMAN TARGET doesnt end up on this thread :/

Damn, I am still bitter about Journeyman. Topics like this always bring it up again. The writer's strike really was the culprit here (although Heroes season 2 was garbage), as I have a feeling that if the strike didn't happen, we would have at least gotten a full season, and a shot.

yes. two of the funniest and most neglected shows on television right now.

like STELLA and UCB, they are likely not long for this world. savor the flavor.

Still not on DVD, which is a crime against humanity.

Also, another +1 for Daybreak. Thankfully, the whole thing is available online/DVD.

Unless they're amongst these images that're blocked here at work, I'm shocked, stunned and appalled than no-one has mentioned Invader Zim or Megas XLR.

I'm literally* vomiting with rage!

*may not be entirely accurate

At least The Sarah Connor Chronicles ended on a proper basis to pick it up someday were it left off. It's still the only viable option for the Terminator franchise to go in the future. Either it gets updated or it dies. TSCC went with the first, which automatically increases my respect for the attempt. That, and the drama + acting was glorious compared to, say: V...

I also felt that Space: above and beyond was basically finished at the end, since the major "line" throug the writing is basically: "life is shit." Really awesome setup though. Nothing was explained to the viewer beyond need-to-know basis -allthough foreshadowing did occur- and basically nobody liked anybody for their own reasons. This last bit should sound familair to S1 BSG viewers.

Better Off Ted on the other hand... :'(
(need moar Veronica)

I mentioned Invader Zim. And yes, I am greatly saddened by the apparent lack of love for Zim :(

I can't believe I forgot Clone High the first time through. I was like most people when I saw it advertised on MTV. "Pfft, that looks absolutely fucking stupid, pass." Then I caught up on the whole series and I cursed my younger self for being so foolish. It was such a good show, and the fact that it never got a second season brings a tear to my eye.

PS. When I mentioned MST3K, I didn't mean that it didn't have a lot of love. I mean, the show got 10 seasons. But it still deserved more love. Best show in the history of television.

The Invisible Man gets my vote. All the other shows I liked that deserved more love have already been mentioned.

It had a good run (?)

Also one more for Nowhere Man, which I didn't recognise because it was broadcast in the Netherlands as "Hidden Agenda", as far as I remember. That, or remembered the wrong part. :lol

I'm gonna say 'The Comeback', HBO series starring Lisa Kudrow that only lasted one season. A year or two ago a girl forced me to watch the DVD, and it was actually really funny satire. Sort of a mockumentary, kind of like The Office UK in how it derived humor from awkward situations. Not to everyone's taste, but I'm sure some of you would get a kick out of it. I was never a 'Friends' guy, but watching this show gave me a big appreciation for Lisa Kudrow as an actress.

Here's a little blurb from Wikipedia:

Despite a coveted time slot after the hit series Entourage, The Comeback debuted to low ratings and a mixed critical response; despite this, it was nominated for three Primetime Emmy Awards including Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Kudrow. HBO confirmed on September 21, 2005 that the series was officially canceled after only being on the air for thirteen weeks. It has since been removed from HBO's online list of Original Series programming.

The show placed #79 on Entertainment Weekly's "New TV Classics" list. In 2009, the publication named The Comeback one of the ten best shows of the decade, calling it "the most brilliantly brutal satire of reality TV ever captured on screen."

Such a fantastic show, yet so underappreciated, with a fantastic Eddie Izzard. Writer's strike killed it off in the middle of Season 2, with not one bit of resolution. :(
