The series that set the Fox tradition.

Create a fantastic series.

Then cancel after one season.

Sit Down, Shut Up <-- one of the funniest shows ever created and it was canceled after two episodes :(
I don't know if I'd say funniest shows ever. It had a rough start but it got a little better with each episode. Anyway, it's coming to Comedy Central, but I'm not sure if it's a new production or just the first season in reruns.

What pic is this? it won't load for me. It'd be nice if you post a pic, if you tell people what it is of :)

I'm in China peeps, shit loads slow.
Pushing Daisies

Now and Again was easily my favorite show prior to LOST. It actually was semi-successful too, but some idiot at CBS thought The Fugitive would do better. It did not.

Egg Man ftw.

There was a show that ran on Fox back in the late 90's called 'Brimstone' that only ended up running about 12 episodes or so before it was canceled. It was about a dead cop being sent by the devil to track down escaped spirits from the Underworld. I loved that damn show, but haven't seen an episode since it was canceled. Don't know how it has aged, but I remember being depressed that it got canned back then.

Any other people remember/like this show?

I've always had a soft spot for Grounded For Life. It was great little sitcom. Consistently funny. I was genuinely sad when it was cancelled.

The Norm Show - I will watch Norm do anything, most underutilized, underappreciated comedic voice of our generation and he wouldn't have it any other way

Upright Citizens Brigade - still my favorite show of all time

Home Movies - Amazing show, smart and funny and executed with a high degree of difficulty because it didn't resort to being vulgar for laughs (which I am fine with but it's impressive that they didn't have to)

Now the question. Does any Gaffer but me remember this show?

TIME TRAX! I have the entire series on a hard drive somewhere.

That and TekWar were two of my guilty pleasures

I'm going to answer before I read the thread, so I hope someone else mentions it, but Brimstone had a great premise and I think would have developed into a really cool show. Naturally, FOX quickly canceled it.

Well unfortunately Lois, there's just no more room on the schedule. We just gotta accept the fact that FOX has to make room for terrific shows like Dark Angel, Titus, Undeclared, Action, That 80's Show, Wonder Falls, Fast Lane, Andy Richter Controls The Universe, Skin, Girl's Club, Cracking Up, The Pitts, Firefly, Get Real, Freaky Links, Wanda At Large, Costello, The Lone Gunman, A Minute with Stan Hooper, Normal Ohio, Pasadena, Harsh Realm, Keen Eddy, The Street, American Embassy, Cedric The Entertainer, The Tick, Louie, And Greg The Bunny.

Yeah, this was a great show.

Wow a lot of the responses on the first page completely defeat the purpose of the thread.

Shows like Firefly, Mystery Science Theater, Star Trek (!!!?), Freaks and Geeks, Arrested Development get tons of love.

I'm probably going to have to say Virtuality (it was only a pilot episode :lol). It was like Sunshine if it were a psychological-horror TV show. It could have been one of the greatest sci fi series ever if Fox didn't cancel it.

Angel
It was 2nd in viewership next to Smallville (18-34). There was a lot of questions on this one.
They then offered Joss a tv movie spot... after all the writers and actors had gotten new work. Nice work!

Home Movies
It was the best show on Adult Swim in my opinion.

Sifl & Olly. Surprised it wasn't mentioned yet (unless I just missed it). God that was such a funny show and an absolute travesty that we'll probably never see it released on DVD.

Home Movies is another good example, although I was guilty of overlooking it at first too. Bought the DVD sets kind of on a whim and realized what I'd been missing.

Cop Rock. Someone actually thought a musical cop show was a GOOD idea. They were wrong, but it was so bad it was actually funny.
As someone who watched it in its original run, I have to defend Cop Rock. It was just before its time. If it were to be made now, they'd do the concept justice. Honestly, the worst thing about it was that it was too influenced by 80s music and relied on cheesy synth rock.

I did (see above)! Also, Profit was another FOX show that got canned early. It doesn't age as well because so much of it used "virtual reality" to illustrate computers, and even at the time that was ridiculous.

My wife gets annoyed at me because I get all these series on DVD and then when the season is over she asks me to put on the next episode and I have to tell her it was canceled.

Thank god some people mentioned Day Break or I would have shed a tear for humanity!! Watched it when it first came out and was GUTTED whenever it was taken off the air after the 7th episode. For a few horrible weeks we weren't sure if we'd get the final 6 episodes at all, but then thankfully they were released online and all was good.....well as good as it could possibly be with the show getting cancelled. Am actually rewatching this at the minute and its just as excellent as I remember it!! I was wondering though if anyone could possibly tell me where I can find a "chart" that shows how everything in the story is connected? I remember seeing such a thing many, MANY years ago and tried searching for it there recently but to no avail....

Spartacus Blood and Sand is a show that definitely deserves more love, it seems to have gone overlooked by most people and thats an awful shame.

Oh and I saw someone mentioned Kings, and while I did like the show and watch it all, it was incredibly disappointing overall I think. It had some of the strongest opening episodes i've ever seen in a show, the first 2 episodes were truly fantastic....but then it just failed to be anywhere near as good again, which was really upsetting for me.... :(

Edit: Oh and Sleeper Cell was another show that didn't get anywhere near as much love as it should have. First season was ok, pretty standard, but the second season was just amazing, really great stuff. Pity it ended on a cliffhanger that will never be concluded....

Defying Gravity.

The first season was great, disappointed I'll never know where the story would have gone.

there is a reference on the wikipedia page for how Defying Gravity would have played out. And why it was doomed from the start, sadly.

I agree with The Norm Show, really good. Didn't really care for A Minute with Stan hooper though.

MISSION HILL
This show is leagues funnier than Family Guy, American Dad, or any of the other bullshit animated sitcom-comedy shows you see on Fox these days. If you haven't seen Mission Hill, check it out.

Freaks and Geeks for sure, how these shows get cancelled is beyond me.

Shitty ratings?

Seriously networks don't hate shows or kill them on purpose. If the show is not getting enough viewership, it's going to get canned. People like to always blame the networks when it's often not really their fault.

Not one mention of Dead Like Me? Really GAF?

My friend tried so hard to get me to watch this show, and I never did. He even went so far as burn the whole thing onto discs for me. The premise just sounded so fucking ridiculous I could never bring myself to watch it.

Agreed. If you enjoyed the US version of LOM (Which was effin shite) you definitely owe it to yourself to check the original Life on Mars. I'm still gobsmacked by that ending, absolutely marvelous.
