Twitch streamers and racist/bigoted donation messages

Not condoning it, and maybe this is a bit paranoid, but if I was a big Twitch streamer and the majority of my chat was hateful assholes, I'd be a bit worried about calling people out seriously, thinking they'd group up and dox me or SWAT me for shits and giggles.

Plenty of Twitch streamers have moderators that keep the chat mostly clean and on topic. Just like here on GAF, if you curate discussion then you don't seem to have as many shitty people in your chat.

Generally, if a big streamer has a bunch of racist shit in their chat, then they're either too lazy to have it removed or they're tacitly approving of it.

Miss me with this censorship shit. There's nothing innocent or tolerable about spamming racial slurs and imagery, which is all Twitch chats ever do. It aids a hostile and divisive environment towards the people being targeted and those actually empathetic, hence why people are being told to leave streams they would otherwise enjoy. If you're fine with that, then that's on your conscience, but don't dress up racism and sexism on private platforms in nobler terms or issues like censorship to make it more palatable. Gaming culture needs to short its shit out.

People always have a choice. If you're willing to take money to support racist views, then you support racist views.

Up to the streamer whether they're okay with that, but denying it is stupid.

dumb response. You're not supporting racist views by taking money and the people who spout stupid racist shit aren't inherently racist. Most of the time it's just idiots looking for shock attention and thinking they're funny.

Not to mention that you disregarded the fact that a vast majority of people aren't racist and look right past that shit and don't let it bother them cause they know it's idiots being idiots. Those kinds of people crave attention and even threads like this validate them (in their eyes)

Destiny actually used to not use his twitch chat at all and had a separate one on his own website.

He still does, he hosts his own chat which he interacts with and is moderated. His Twitch chat is still enabled though but I don't think he reads it.

If a significant portion of your install base gives you money in return for being allowed to spout racial slurs in public, you are supporting racism. Furthermore, racism isn't limited by conscious intent. If your idea of a joke was to always say the word "nigger," a slur for black people (there is no other definition with which to derive humor), then you are inherently being racist even if you don't consciously think you're doing anything wrong. If I accidentally run someone over in my car, it doesn't mean they're not hurt because it was an accident.

The studies have long since been in: the vast majority of people possess subconscious bias against ethnic minorities of some sort, which is racism. Couching it up in "It's just a prank bro" doesn't make racist words and statements magically not racist.

I will say it again: Gaming Culture, get your shit together.
