Twitch to start selling games. Streamers to get 5%

Amazon dont know what theyre missing.

Letting people buy loot boxes while watching their favorite streamer and having some of the profit go to the streamer. It needs to happen.

I like the idea, but the steamer getting most likely money is one way to get me to do visiting twitch altogether when everything becomes a fucking ad.

I'll buy from them if their digital sales are cheapest, though.

Cool in theory but there are a few streamers who never say anything bad about games as it is "being positive and such etc etc* this is just going to push that over the edge with them now getting a cut.

That's cool. Not sure I'd use it unless they do some serious discounts(especially since the Twitch launcher is pretty rubbish at the moment) but more competition is always nice.

I have mixed feelings on Twitch streamers and streaming culture. All the glitz and glamour of being a streamer seems like it can become toxic very quickly.

not really if that is your perception you'll probably keep finding it, there is thousands of streamers and you might find one you like, if you focus on the negative all you'll find is that. It's almost like wrestling you have your big streamers and you have the jobbers working up the ladder, the people who have the high work rate don't always get the most views compared to the people who are naturally entertaining

lol

thats how i look at it anyways.

as for this game thing it's pretty damn awesome.

Sounds great actually, rather support my favorite streamer when I buy digital games.

And that Twitch crate... I'm a sucker for stupid emotes, of course I'd love to get them!

If amazon really want to make that thirst money, they'll link for sale the old porn videos certain twitch stars performed in

Seems like a fine idea to me -- like someone else said, ala Youtube song purchases.

Well this is ripe for abuse. What safeguards will be in place and how will this comply with international laws, especially when it comes to advertising to children?

Can you give an example of this? I'm curious how every other advertising platform on the Internet gets around it.

Another launcher? well that's a nope for me, but I think is a great idea.

The twitch launcher mostly stays out of the way at this point. I installed Heavy Bullets via the Twitch Launcher today, and I get a small "checking for updates" window when starting the game and then the launcher seems to shut itself off.

Then again, it is just in beta, so any bloat could still be coming down the road.

With Paradox being a partner here I'm curious how mods will work given how essential many people find them to those games after a time.

This seems neat. Especially if streamers are playing smaller games that otherwise might not get a ton of exposure.

Something like astroneer comes to mind.

But I will 95 times out of 100 buy based on price, so for the most part, I wouldn't be buying from twitch unless it was price competitive.

I think this would severely reduce the likelihood that twitch streamers will want to play lesser known games. I would think most will play the popular games, trying to make that 5% off sales.

I agree with your second part. I buy wherever the digital code is cheapest. Seems like there wouldn't be much room for sale prices in this.

Admittedly I don't really watch twitch so I don't really know if this is a good idea or not. As an outsider the first thing I thought was that most popular steamers are just going to promote and say positive things about every game they play. "Guys this game is really awesome, definitely press that buy button, it helps me out immensely".

Smart for twitch and game devs though. Marketing at a small cost. If it involves any sort of twitch client to launch games though, im out on that.

Edit: since Amazon owns twitch, it's basically them selling games through twitch. If we can get the 20% discount on digital out if this, I'd be in.

Hmmm. good point on more popular games. What's weird is this is another step in that direction towards a situation that is somewhat morally ambiguous. To your point, every person is incentivized to say how great all the games they're playing are. But you'd also assume, most people are smart enough to go "hey, this is getting paid if i buy stuff here."

This seems similar to the whole "influencer" conversation related to game reviews. The landscape of games and the media surrounding it is certainly getting more and more interesting.

And yeah, if it's just a flow through of Amazon's 20% off, that's fine (and I admittedly don't watch Twitch a ton either), but at that point, why wouldn't I just order it on Amazon I guess? Idk...
