Twitch.tv sucking for anyone else? Constant pauses

I don't know if this is just a recent problem but it's hard for me to scrub through my videos in order to create highlights because I have to constantly pause the video and wait for it to buffer.

Try this OP, it worked for me and rarely have issues with twitch now(Time Warner customer in southeast texas). Currently watching WCS america with 1080p+ with 10 mbps down

huh I will need to try this out

Same problem here. Streams (watching Game of Thrones and Speedrunners on Twitch) are a mess.

Thought it's a problem with firefox, Adobe Flash Player. So what is the reason/solution?

Damn, that is unfortunate. I'm just dreaming for the day when a better ISP will come around here so I can ditch TWC.
Google fiber plz

Like that'd ever happen. Doubt Google would want to deal with all the red tape bullshit that would come along with trying to install their own fiber lines here in the city.

I thought this was a problem with firefox, so I tried chrome and still had the same stuttering issue.

The live streams are still good, but the download speeds on VODs has been absolutely awful recently. I can watch live streams on 1080p+, then struggle to watch vods on 240 or 360p without buffering.

Twitch has always been problematic on the East Coast for streamers, since they're based on the West Coast.

Agreed. I'm in Tampa on a 60 down/6 up connection and the Miami server is garbage so I'm forced to use the Ashburn, VA secondary server which isn't so hot either.

This could be the case; I'm right on the WC and my connection to Twitch has pretty much always been awesome. I thought some of their upload servers were spread out though?

When Sp00ky switched to Own3d for a month or two (he's based out of NYC) the difference in quality was unreal.

So the iOS app occasionally works? You guys have it way better than us Android users. It hasn't been remotely usable in longer than I can remember. When I could actually get it to load a stream, it would blackscreen after every couple minutes.

iphone one just started working for me, after 2-3 updates.

So... I was watching a KSP stream on my PC. Everything was fine and running smoothly.

I decide to go do something else in another room and bring my ipad. I follow the guy so it's easy enough to find him in the ipad app.

When I tap on his channel I get a black screen but the chat works fine... I tried everything and I just can't get the video to load. I can see other channels just fine and his channel is still working fine on my pc.

So, is that because he's out of the 300 channels or it's because the app simply sucks ass? Either way I can't understand how a company can release such a terrible product.

Same issue for me the past two weeks or so. I have TWC.

It insanely frustrating since I have paid subs to the GLS and ProLeague for SC2. :(

Made a post about this elsewhere last week.

And in similar to people here, It's been happening in the last two weeks for me too. I am on FIOS, 50 download and 30 upload so I don't think it's that. I tried resetting my router and other various things to be sure. My adobe flash is up to date, etc, etc. All I can think of is perhaps the server the stream is using does not gel with my connection. But using JTVping, nothing is in the red for me so I should be good.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. TWC here, 30 down 5 up, and Twitch is virtually unusable even at 360p over the past ~2 weeks.

I tried that Reddit solution and it did nothing.

This makes me feel better, but I just spent an hour on the phone with TWC.
Same plan too. I can't even watch 480p right now, I even put on 240p and it's stuttering every 10 seconds.

At least SPL has been pretty watchable on 720, sometimes I have to drop to 480.
Doesn't help GOMTV loads super slow.

Always felt a bit unearned how quickly Twitch became the de-facto streaming site for gaming, it's been sucking for me as well and mobile is a joke. I hope if a competing service shows to be significantly better they're rewarded with the audience migration, the field should be a lot more open right now than it appears to be.

comcast was doing this several months back after a huge LoL tournament, some idiot or higher up probably thought there was too much bandwidth usage so they just decided to throttle it.

time warner probably just doing the same thing now that the 360 app may have increased the number of users

If you're having pauses from Twitch, it usually means your connection to their servers is slow/disrupted. Usually it's your ISPs fault not theirs.

What did TWC say about the problem? I would like to know because I am about to call my local TWC offices.
I got to a Tier 2 supervisor and basically got told it wasn't TWC, but the website (Twitch).
I got my case # down and will continue the calls after I get more info from Twitch about how to continue.
Something is being flipped somewhere when I can't watch 720p at 11:25PM, but can watch 3 HD streams and a 1080p VOD at the same time an hour later (after midnight).

ECT this weekend I had to watch at sub HD, and two streams today I couldn't watch at 480p, even 240p on a stream was pausing every 10 seconds.

*12:35am today and I can't watch a 480p VOD without pausing every 3 seconds. I guess it's just crud right now.

Living on the east coast Twitch has always more or less been shit for me, and I have a good connection. I will say that switching to Chrome has fixed a lot of it though, and I haven't had these recent stuttering issues like some people are having.

In general it's still ass though, and it's obvious what's going on when there's a big DotA or LOL tournament going and that's running fine but then every other stream on the site is running like shit. I will also echo the sentiment that when sp00ky switched to own3d briefly the difference was unreal, I could watch that at max quality and it was flawless consistently. I would probably give Twitch sub money if they got their shit together and put some servers on the east coast, there's way too much consistency with the fact that the most people who have the most problems are on the east coast. They can blame ISP's to a point, and I'm sure that IS true, but that's certainly not the whole story.

if you use a vpn or proxy it may magically fix the issue given the proxy allow high bandwidth. also try IE Tab extension for chrome that seemed to help but i couldnt explain why.

If i use some chrome extension and a download manager i can download 4 30 min clips at the same time 100-168k/s each.

I've tried 5 browsers (Older Firefox, Firefox 20, Waterfox 18, Chrome, IE 10), 32/64 bit Flash, Old Flash (11.2), 11.7 Flash, Hardware accel on/off, and 2 different video drivers.
Most of the intelligent people are now blaming the CDN networks and how they work and not the ISP throttling.
I've seen this more for Youtube. I don't care for that because it's generally not an issue and I can use proxfree to load 1080 no problem.

I don't have a work around for Twitch, and I'd like to know what I can do as it's my main media consumption.

The site always has, and always will have technical issues that they cannot or will not fix, until a worthy competitor steals a good amount of their viewer base.
