The problem with Mulitcam, is that it is licensed by Crye Industries. So, the whoever buys it pays a premium over the other camoflages. Presents a probmen because as a product available on the open market, can result in some issues. Like a bunch of insurgents dressed in Multicam.

Why did you post a really blurry pic of a sidewalk?

Multi cam is ballin outta control.

Three US Navy SEALS with multi cam. The boonie hats in the middle and to the right, I believe are still digital, but the rest is multi. Navy Seals mix it up, they do what they want.

75th Ranger's with multi cam. Hooah.

The worst part is the Air Force bought our new ABUs with a closely matching pattern. It sucks. I've worn it in both Iraq and Afghanistan and it works poorly in that environment.

Multicams are being issued to basically everyone going over there now. Guess what? It looks sexy but doesn't blend in either. Ignore their sweet looking PR bullshots on their website. You can spot them in the desert from 3K away.

So what's the logic behind the pixelated look? How does it (intend to) aid camouflage?

Same as any camouflage, it breaks up human-shaped lines. The digital camouflage developed by the Canadian Forces (and adopted by the USMC) has lower contrast than traditional camouflage and therefore doesn't stand out as much. I'm not sure how the US Army screwed it up so much.

it seems like its a little too dark to blend in with the sand. Our soliders need octo-camo

To everyone bitching about the 5 billion figure, we are required to buy uniforms every year or so(more like every other year but whatever) at $100+ a set. You usually keep about four sets. So yes they spend alot making them(think 2-3 sets per service member) but the vast majority is paid back out of our pockets.

It was the theatre that changed on them. ACU shows up in the desert.

In an urban environment, ACU can blend pretty well.

You get a clothing allowance.

As cool as it looked, it never made sense to me since nothing else in the world looks like pixels. I guess I can kind of see it working in an urban environment but certainly not in the jungle or desert.

Camo is useless at close range no matter what, the point is to hide profile of a person at a distance. From a distance you do not see pixels and really the whole thing looks like regular camo patterns from a distance. The point of the pixel camo was supposed to have blocks of similar colors next to each other as to have it blend more instead of the sharper edges of old camo patterns.

The total cost comes from the Army itself and includes the price of developing the pattern and producing it for the entire service branch.

Oh wow you mean the once a year allowance that isn't just intended for uniforms but somehow doesn't even manage to cover half the costs?

Actually, it is intended just for uniforms.

I'm not sure how it didn't cover uniforms for you unless they got really expensive in the last four years.

Anyway, it always helps to make friends with a guy in supply so you can pocket it ;)

And they are hot as shit.
They are just now talking about light-weight uniforms? The ABU wasn't even available for purchase to everyone yet when people started complaining about how hot they were in the desert!

Multicam works well enough I suppose but I think it is ugly as sin.
They may not be that good for camouflage in an urban environment, but nothing recent beats the DCU for comfort and looks.

MARPAT is still the best combat utilities in the Department of Defense.

Fortunately for the Marines, unfortunately for everyone else, the Marines have won every lawsuit to keep the pattern strictly for their branch(asides from Navy Corpsmans and the blue MARPAT the Navy got).

Man that William Gibson book was totally on the money about military clothing contracts.

That's pretty fucked up when you think about it, if it's so effective as to potentially save lives.

How does this work for black ops?
I don't think something petty like Marine lawsuits would prevent other branches from donning MARPAT when performing an AAA mission.

Yeah, I can understand not allowing it in garrison, but when you won't let your sister services in combat use it, it's extremely messed up.

I have absolutely zerp understanding of black ops so I'm not sure. However the Marines did not initiate any lawsuits. They patented the pattern and the material. Army asked if they could use it and make it their standard uniform, Marines said no, Army sued a couple times IIRC and lost every time.

What? The allowance is for clothing only.

It might be in the Army but in the AF its also meant for things like duffel bags and shit. Basically all the stuff you get in initial issue. And I was wrong about the number, we're supposed to maintain 8.

heres the AFI

Anyway, even if it was for just uniforms, considering all the different ones we have its still not cheap at all.

Perfect time to post a picture of ... me!

This was taken in .... December I think? No too effective against the snow. But it looks boss.

I got back on the 9th of this month.

Sorry, I don't see anyone in this photo. Just some snow and possibly some sort of naturally occurring vegetation.

Desert? Pshh Afrika is the new hotness son.

True, we're already sending folks to nice played like Djibouti and other places on the down low. I haven't been and hope I never do.
/fingers crossed

Air force needs new dress blues. We look like flight attendants and bus drivers.

They are pretty bad, yes. I wore mine recently to a funeral (weird, but it was at the request of the deceased's family) and I felt like an American Airlines pilot. They don't really look like a military uniform except for the ribbons and rank.

It's tough when put up against those Marine Dress Blues...

They need to take a cue from GI Joe and dress people up like Snow Job. Robust red beard and all.
