For some people in this thread who don't seem to know it, the Flu rarely involves vomiting or diarrhea. Most of the time, the systems simply resemble those of a bad cold.

Yep, nearly every year I would get a terrible runny nose but I was never crippled by the flu.

Surprise surprise, the year I am required to get a flu shot I do not have a runny nose!

Have you ever had mono/glandular fever? That was much worse for me than any cold or flu. I couldn't sleep properly or eat any food for a week because my throat was so sore, and I lost almost 20 pounds.

Yes, I had Mono. For me it was more of a slow burn over a month.

This last flu hit me like a ton of bricks. Way worse then when I had mono.

I'm off work this week with flu. First time off work in over 3 years.

The first 4 days I was basically stuck to my couch. Hot and cold sweats. Aching limbs. Shivering. No appetite and a really bad headaches.

I'm on day 5 now and I feel I'm over the worst of it. Still coughing and feeling week but I no longer feel like I'm dying.

I've had a few colds over the years but this has floored me.

I don't know how anyone could confuse the flu with a cold. There is a magnitude of difference. I could honestly see when I was a couple of days in that a stronger version of this could actually kill you.

Got the flu shot in early October, got the flu last week. Symptoms were those of a really bad cold with the addition of hot flashes / night sweats that made sleep next to impossible.

I haven't had the flu in nearly a decade. But one girl on my staff caught it and it just tore thru my entire staff.

I thought I was good, cuz I rarely get sick, but alas I've been laid up for 3 days now. This is dumb.

Got hit with something monday. Haven't gotten this sick in like 5 years. I got over the worst of it pretty quickly, but I still look and sound gross. The first couple of days i couldn't sleep for shit. I'd probably still have problems if i wasn't getting my nyquil on.

Add me to the list of people who (at least believe) they have never had the flu, and never get the shot. I get maybe 1-2 bad colds a year, but since the symptoms never really go beyond the standard cold symptoms I don't really have any reason to believe it's just a mild flu.

Top tip. Get yourselves a large packet of balm tissues. It will save your nose and surrounding facial skin. I cannot recommend them enough.
