Don't most immigrant regardless of where they are from usually start of as poor, without any statistic to back me up I'd wager it wouldn't be much of a stretch in logic to assume most immigrants who come to your country for better opportunity wouldn't be as well off as the 'natives'. There is no need to be crude. Of course the situation with the Hispanic immigrants is not much more unique than any other previous groups of immigrants who settled in America I assume. As you say Hispanic are probably moving up in American society - they certainly seem to be more prominent in the US media - and that too is normal, but I fail to see how that makes a large birth rate a good thing regardless of ethnicity.

You don't see the benefits of the US birth rate being strong? Look at Japan, ask them how the declining birthrate is working out. How they love to have the world's oldest population. Ask them where they'll be in 50 or 80 years. China is continuing to grow in population, and so is India (which will eclipse China in 50 years.

But yeah, I understand. It's not whites which are reproducing and keeping birth rates strong, so it's not the same thing right?

And as for the bold up above, probably? Are you serious? You should look up stats on how many hispanics are holding office across the nation at every level. You'd be surprised. Very surprised. Even formerly white dominated careers like law enforcement/etc. Everywhere. Hispanics are born here, have been for hundreds of years now. Hispanics are generations deep in America. Accept that.

Given time, every culture will strive and prosper. Unless, of course, those in power wipe them out. Which history has shown us, even somewhat recently, does happen.


Hispanics have every right to look at what they are accomplishing with pride, just as much as you and yours.

It differs greatly across the countries. Argentina's largest ethnicity is Italian, Brazil has the biggest Japanese population outside of Japan and something like 90% of Uruguay's citizens are of European descent.

Other than the Spanish language, I think that an acceptance of drunk driving is one of the main things that the diverse latino groups have in common. Maybe it's cause I'm from Toronto, but even Canadian hicks aren't particularly gung-ho about drunk driving compared to all the latinos I know.

We hold different views on birth rate but I don't view high birth rate as a positive thing regardless of ethnicity. While I can understand why you may have viewed my initial comment in a skewed way, I have nothing against demographic changes in America since I don't live there and I'm not sure on the social views of different groups of Hispanic immigrants in America.
Also give your silly inferiority complex a rest. I had already stated this but I'm not American and so I wouldn't be able to speak with confidence on the position of Hispanics in American society, also seeing as I'm not white nor American I couldn't care less about US demographics. I also agree that given time and under right circumstances every culture can prosper and succeed.

In the summer I can get an intense tan, but by the end of fall I'm lighter skinned than most white people.

2nd gen Puerto Rican-American reporting in. I'll eat pernil with my turkey at Thanksgivings if I'm seeing my extended family and I won't refuse a Malta and a plate of tostones, but overall I'm completely Americanized (hence the gringo status).
