Ubisoft making fun of 1080p/Resolutiongate in companion app

eh I find it pretty inoffensive and don't see how it's making fun of the customers. it's more like they are making fun of themselves
I actually don't even see how it's making fun of anything. They just reference the whole thing, nothing more

It's not "resolution gate, haha, you're so dumb if you care about 1080p"

I don't understand what 'resolutiongate' is.
Does the PC not run in full HD as well?

ResolutionGate was the controversy surrounding the XBO and PS4 launch games where XBO games were struggling to hit the same resolutions PS4 were, game after game. Of course this would become the new norm, but that was back at a time when there were still some fans that refused to believe so every new story about it was a 30 page topic.

Just to clarify this. [...] One of those sets of Memory Hunts would give you 720p badge for finishing them after timer counted down and 1080p badge was for those who finished set in certain timeframe.
I know that Ubisoft did bad things lately but this is not related to ACU and recent events at all.
You only need 90%. That's the joke.

So, I'm the one that originally posted this in the Unity OT. Didn't think it was thread worthy, and I didn't realize that it wasnt actually related to Unity. Just thought it was funny that Ubi would put something like this after WD and now this. Would have even posted it if I knew it was a year old! I actually like Unity, so I wasn't trying to stir the shit for the hell of it.

Just to clarify this. Last year AC Initiates was page that you could visit and link your AC games and see your progress translated to XP. Also for certain actions you would be rewarded with badge. Also AC Initiates was Social HUB for AC fans where they could expand their knowledge about AC Universe and track modern day story in real time. Page offered mini games too. One of those games was Daily Memory hunt where members would get riddle related to certain event and solution of that riddle was location on map.

You're the Twitter guy who told Shinoby he created Resolutiongate? As others have said, the "when" is not important. If you are making those jokes, you better make sure to not release a broken game on the technical side.

Maybe I should have kept the information to myself, but my friend does motion capture work for Ubi, he worked on multiple AssCreed games, starting with Unity and Rogue. I know that many of you won't believe me and that is fine, but I am telling you guys what he told me, that essentially the Division is all smoke and mirrors.

Didn't they demo the game running on the X1 at E3 or soon after?

That demo was faked? Vertical slice? Really running on super PCs?

Man Miles, are you really going to give them the benefit of the doubt anymore? I mean, how many millions of times does Ubisoft have to fake a presentation for people to start thinking "maybe I should stop believing them" :(

They literally do it with almost every game they show nowadays that is even a little technical showcase.

It's not that dude, it's that you can't drop information like that on neoGAF without proof you can at least show to the mods. Leaks like that are tightly controlled by moderation and if you can't prove the source you can get banned.

Did schennmu contacted MattyG before making a thread with his quote and picture?

He seems genuinely surprised and disappointed, considering he's enjoying the game and is been used to start controversy.

OH SNIZZAP LOL

Even being from last year it still should cause some alarm. It's them simply making fun of the resolution controversies from last year, of which they helped create the environment for. Making fun of the customers you helped lead to this point is just ridiculous. Maybe if it wasn't a company that has been as shitty as Ubisoft I'd take the joke in more stride, but context matters.

Shouldn't cause any alarm. It's old and from last year. If it were new...cool. But it's basically people becoming irate about a subject they were already irate about AND was fixed day one.

There is no alarm to be had. Even coming from Ubi. I didn't really have much to say against people being mad about the performance of the game and whatnot...but this is pushing it.

EDIT- If ultiman is right....sad face : (

Yeee son, quoted in the OP.

I don't think it's a huge deal, it just surprised me that they'd poke at already angry consumers like that.

Just realized that I wrote "snapled" instead of "snapped" in that post. Oops.

You seem very upset about this thread!

That Kotaku article detailing Ubisoft's practise of sending employees to developer purgatory where they may or may not get laid off was very eye opening to me. A company that treats its employees so dismissively will surely have the same mindset about its customers.

wow, just wow.

I considered myself a fan of the AC series but between the performance, glitches, bugs, performance issues, resolution, micro/macro transactions and now this? Someone working on the game did this. Not management, not a suit. A dev. Lovely contempt for your customers.

And it would be maybe understandable to say it tongue in cheek if the game released and performed well across the board. But it clearly isn't.

Now this is just unfortunate. They really think the garbage they put out is worth all the boasting and jerks they made of themselves prior to release, to the point where they can make fun of people with no shame? Lol.
Can this among the many posts in here sound any more overdramatic? They've goofed quite a bit lately, but this is just a small joke, nothing more, nothing less.

Yes it does matter because this was known since last year and nobody cared even though Ubisoft was part of Resolutiongate even then because ACIV was 900p on PS4 before launch. They didn't make fun of anything it was just small not to news at that time.

It's part of a pattern of behavior now. It's extremely important to document and raise alarm at every shit behavior Ubisoft has been apart of for this past two years. It shows a persistent inability to change their behavior and a progressive movement toward becoming even worse. One of the problems with pinning bad companies down is that gamers have a short-term memory. They view a controversy, that controversy will evaporate in a few weeks, and they'll look at the next pretty game and forget. Documenting every shitty move prevents people from forgetting when they really shouldn't, since Ubisoft demonstrably has not changed and is only getting worse.

Consumers have been fucked by this company long enough as far as I'm concerned.

That was a positive story. You need to reread it with the common practices of the game industry in mind.

Upset and the hyperbole and misleading, yeah ..just like how Ubisoft hide "on purpose" the microtransactions from the game...just because PSN and Live updated later the day with pricing.

yeah that's the way I look at it too. But by referencing it they are acknowledging something that they should be made fun of for

edit- I guess it's an old reference anyway, but even it weren't I don't think it would be a big deal

So we got 160+ posts basically taking Ubisoft to task about something that has nothing to do with what happened in the last month and nothing to do with Unity?

The amount of people ready to grab the pitchforks over something like this is astounding.

Haha no, it doesn't bother me at all! I just didn't want people to think I was reaching for things to criticize Ubi about, especially since I misunderstood the timeframe the medal was posted on Initiates in.

What I'm saying is this....this is essentially going back, grabbing something from the past, and getting mad again.

Yea...document everything they do and let it pile...but you can't grab something from the bottom of the pile and add it to the top and treat it like something new.

You can if it wasn't reported on. If it was, share :)

Their intelligence is CPU bound. I'd even go as far as to say that their creative team collectively are about as smart as one of their NPCs. Harsh, yes .. so don't you dare insult a gamer's intelligence.

Cool.
Is still disappointing seeing things blown out of proportion...again.

The game has its fair share of problems and still manages to be fun and look amazing. But some actively looking for things to throw more mud like this thread (fuck you ubisoft!!!), the microtransactions (fuck you ubisoft!!!), the people randomly posting videos of glitches (fuck...hello!!!) for no reason.

It comes a time the posts stop been "fun".

Well at least it's thematically relevant.

The sad thing is no matter what they do or say, these games will still sell a ton and be profitable and they know it

Fair enough, but wouldn't you say it would be smart to not do this at all? This is basically Ubisoft engaging in fanboy wars. And it does leave a bitter taste in your mouth when a completely broken game like Unity gets released down the line.

Question is: Will it change anything? All the low fps, bugs, jokes about some internetrage, microtransactions, lies,.. will they stop the game from being a success? Doubt it.

The game has its fair share of problems and still mamages to be fun and look amazing.

In your opinion. Some people do not find it fucking funny at all that the game runs like a miserable pile of shit and has numerous pop-in and glitches everywhere and 900p (And surprise, that contributes to how "amazing" something looks.). And then of course ensuring consumers are misled by falsifying pretty much every gameplay video leading up to the release and then having day one embargoes so consumers couldn't find out how the game was before they purchased if they had a pre-order.

The whole issue is Ubisoft's behavior for going on two years now has essentially been abhorrent. This one thing is minor on any scale, and it's old, but it should be reported as part of the net of disgusting behaviors from this publisher.

They might of had more time to fix the unplayable framerate if they weren't making stupid apps for games that barely anyone wants (judging from Youtube comments and on here).

Play an app game to open this chest, its still make me cringe.

Releasing the game with this performance should be 100 unacceptable. But on a certain level I am unsurprised how the game looks and runs on the next gen boxes, I mean.. we know about their limitations at this point. Rather, they should have toned down some of the AI amounts/ LODs what have you to get this at a stable 30.

It's not that we don't believe you but you are on GAF son, you keep reposting this and I suspect you will be getting a PM from Bish giving you "XXX" amount of time to provide proof or permaban.

Seriously. You just can't come in with bombs like that on this site and not back it up.

I am not "surprised" in the sense I think it's beyond Ubisoft. They are horrible. But the truth is they should be called out on it. They deceived consumers with their false gameplay videos, they put day one embargoes because they knew it was a buggy, incoherent mess of a product, they hide treasure boxes behind a companion app, they insert microtransactions. They're just a bungle of assholes. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. The shit they've done this past year is astonishing.

They really are one of the worst publishers in the industry right now.

you know what? 5 people on some forums are complaining, ubi soft earns a shit ton of money, gamers who buy the games dont care and dont know shit about this.

this is how life goes on.

making fun is ok, but ubi soft keeps fucking the gamer community with uplay and their shitty editions of one game. there is no way to get everything unless you spend millions of bucks. fuck AC and WD.

As i said Ubisoft was part of Resolutiongate even then so i am not upset at all. ACU is completely different story and honestly it should not be tied to this. ACU has its own problems that should be criticised but this is not one of them in my opinion.

Ubisoft's track record as of late would result in the same conclusion. I just hope Rainbow Six doesn't completely shit the bed (it probably will).

DAT seething contempt.
Ubisoft or the people in this thread?

I agree it's probably best not to poke the bull, but I don't see anything that bad about poking fun of the genuinely ridiculous things that the community has done. "Resolutiongate" is something that deserves to get poked fun of, right down to the insane name. Respecting your customer base doesn't have to mean ignoring their stupidity. Similarly, contempt isn't acknowledging it. Contempt is counting on it and taking advantage of it.

There was nothing stupid about it. People purchased new systems, they demanded their games the upgrade was acceptable for the money they paid. Further, THE INDUSTRY is the one who pushed for this shit and said it was coming and we should be excited. Now we're supposed to feel stupid for wanting it? Bollocks.

Jim Sterling said it best, it's indisputable:

"We cared actually when you, when you, game industry, pushed HD gaming, when you made resolution matter. You pushed and pushed HD on us, pushed for better resolutions, better graphics, better everything; and now that you've pushed our expectations further than your capabilities, you're trying to retreat and say it doesn't matter. Sorry son, y'all contributed to making it matter, deal with it."
