UFC 139: Shogun vs. Hendo |OT| PRIDE Never Die!

ive been working in my room the whole time.... reading these posts makes me sad

:(

the turnout in this thread seems a little lower than normal. only 10 pages for a ufc ppv? if that's the case ppl missed a hell of a card. nothing on the main card really disappointed. The main event was Pride never die. Shogun ate enough h-bombs that would have killed a dozen mike bispings. That fight is going to be the standard for grit and determination.

Think a few are banned. Poly for example.

20 pages for us 50-post normals. :P

That made me chuckle.

The marketing push for this PPV was nearly nonexistent. It's as if the UFC might have blown the year's budget on Jones/Rampage (which had commercials everywhere) and UFC on FOX.

Awesome fights all around. Poor Cung Le, but I think we all saw that coming a mile away. Some vintage Wand there. Up until that point though, both fighters just looked like old-man versions of who they used to be. Both a sad and awesome fight.

Main event was off the charts. Great fight and really glad Hendo took it as I strongly feel the fight should have been stopped in Rd3. And Hendo, being the boss he always is, takes full accountability for not finishing the fight there. Any other LHW contender would have been bitching that it should have been stopped. Hendo is an awesome dude and it makes me wonder how shitty a guy Dana is to have a feud with Hendo.

Unfortunately, this fight really exposed both Hendo and Shogun. Neither of them are close to ready for Jon Jones. Greg Jackson is obviously going to develop a strategy to get the fight to the 4th and 5th rounds where Hendo will just gas out again. You can teach a 41 year old body a few things... Cardio caps quicker than anything else.

Will be interesting to see where Hendo goes, Dana said he could go Bones or Silva if he wanted.

No disrespect to either, insanely epic fight between two guys who are incredibly evenly matched as the result shows............... but, I do think Bones is on another level. It is MMA though so anything could happen, would love to see Hendo land a bomb.

Damn what a card missed it live but just saw it. The main event was off the charts OMG props to both guys for all that heart. The only bad thing for both fighters, as much as it pains me to say this is that Jones would annihilate them

Man what a fantastic night top to bottom. I can't remember the last time I came out of watching a fight card with a giant ear to ear grin like this.

Amazing.

This is the first event I've watched in a while since it was free on the XBL App with the preview program. It was so damn good. All the fights were amazing. I really have to keep up more.

Just saw on the play by play that sherdog had a majority draw and mmaweekly, mmajunkie, and bloodyelbow had it a draw, so I'm not crazy when I had it as a draw before the final verdict was announced.

Yea a draw isn't totally out of the question.

R1: 10-9 Dan
R2: 10-9 Dan
R3: 10-9 Dan
R4: 10-9 Shogun
R5: 10-8 Shogun

I don't think Shogun did enough damage in round 5 to make it a 10-8 but I can certainly see the argument for it. Then again I think Dan could have had a 10-8 round as well.

I see it like that, but I don't see Dan getting 10-8 on the 3rd due to the rules being a 10-8 round is dominating a whole round and not coming close to finishing the fight. R3 to me was a very clear 10-9 for Hendo, but it wasn't a 10-8 Round. A 10-8 Round is R5 or Lyoto-Rampage R3 IMO.

Also, fightmetric:

http://blog.fightmetric.com/2011/11/henderson-vs-shogun-official-ufc.html

Rua 581 - Hendo 489
10 point must system: Draw

EDIT: Poor Shogun, he never gets the nod in close decisions since coming to the UFC lol his UFC record could easily be 5-2-1, instead it's 4-4

Man, finally got around to catching the fights. So glad I didn't have it spoiled for me. Was on the edge of my seat for the entire main event. If Shogun sunk in a choke in the 4th or 5th round it would have been over. Dan was especially finished at the end of the 4th. Imagine that, Shogun outlasting someone in cardio. Really bummed he lost, but an amazing fight. This might be is my FOTY because Edgar/Maynard 3 had a tame 2nd and 3rd round. This fight had all 5 rounds of intense action and pure heart.

I would have gone 10-9 x 3 Hendo, followed by 10-9 Rua and 10-8 Rua, but I get the 10-9. Dana's gonna bonus up both guys anyway.

Wow, incredible main event. So glad it was a 5 rounder. Had it as a draw but judges seem to find it impossible to give 10-8s. Is a shame for either to have lost after their performances but I'd like to see Hendo get the shot over Shogun since its a new match up.

So, uh, anyone else watching the russian event with Fedor? It's on right now, but Fedor isn't fighting yet. One dude just came out to the theme of Mortal Kombat. Putin is there too, observing and clapping with absolutely no emotion.

I want to see Hendo-JBJ. Anderson-Hendo II would be pretty much the same result as the first fight since Hendo is pretty much the same fighter as then. We've never seen JBJ get tagged. How will he respond to an H-Bomb?

Fedor is BACK!

To padding his record against cans, that is.

Coldblooded gameplanning Fedor, you mean? Jeez, that was something. Funny how the commentator was comparing Monson to a heavy bag after he took Fedor's kicks. Too bad the guy entered the ring already limping, doubt the kicks had much to do.

Wow, what a card!

Skipped the Bonnar fight lol.

Impressed by Kampmann.

Faber dominated, like I expected.

Le was really gassed, and Wand was patient and aggressive when he needed to be, took away his range and was looking pretty good. I guess fighting an Asian guy roused that old Pride spirit back in him. Bad stoppage though, Le was going for a takedown.

The main event was bizzare. Who would've thought that Hendo would be the better striker and Shogun the better wrestler in this fight?Shogun just couldn't avoid that right hand. Both were super gassed in the end, and I wasn't sure what I was watching in the 4th. He had Hendo really hurt, but it was like they were in bullet time, I was yelling at my tv "HIT HIM, HIT HIM" bit Shogun had so little in his gas tank he couldn't follow up with ANYTHING. Nice LNP by Shogun in the 5th, lol!

Really disappointed in Shogun, tbh. I don't know how in the fuck he ever expected to rematch Bones Jones fighting like this, he needs to step his game up. This is not the Shogun that beat Machida twice, he didn't look nearly as sharp. He looked pretty out of shape too.

Hendo is really hitting his stride in his old age, although I think the TRT was wearling off by round 3.

Dammit, missed it. I was triple booked for a Sat night so... had to skip it. Hopefully I'll catch a repeat today (it's shown free to air here on Fox).

Are you trying to imply the Russian mafia gave Monson a pre-fight beatdown?*

Haven't seen the fight myself yet.

I never post when watching, too many people over or I'm at my uncles place. Great card indeed and I'm pretty happy with the outcomes. Was pulling for Shogun but I also like Hendo so it's not too bad. Could have been a draw and a rematch which would have been amazing.

I'm sad to have missed this event after reading all of the hype here. :( I spoiled myself but it sounds like it's still a must-see.

Nice LNP by Shogun in the 5th, lol!

Were we watching the same fight?

- Great stoppage with Le. He just took 5 knees to the face, including a broken nose. Was gushing blood and merely holding on for dear life. He was completely out of it. We were heading into brain damage territory there. Ref did a great job.

- Hendo was clearly the better wrestler in the fight. The first three rounds was a domination in that front. Only when Hendo was gassed worse than Shogun in the fourth onwards did Shogun start throwing Hendo around.

- I'm not a Shogun fan at all but how is taking mount 3 times with a good 2 minutes of ground in pound along with 2 or 3 submission attempts LNP exactly? Answer: it's not.

Yeh, Le is holding onto the leg but not actually doing anything while Wand pounds on him. Totally fair stoppage I thought.
