Pride Shockwave Spoiler

Holy crap... Mark Hunt was THIIIIISSSS close to tapping Fedor. Hunt did very well.

Oh shit

I just watched Hong-man Choi vs Ologun

:lol

Hong-man Choi moves like a GIANT muppet :lol

Now to Giant Silva vs Akebono

Giant Silva got him in a kimura!!

He looked in disbelief that he actually won :lol

I'm a noob to all this but how badly are these two new guys Rampage and Cro Cop gonna beat their first opponents? I just watched Rampage beat the crap out of Liddell and Cro Cop take out Fedor with a kick to the head in Pride matches.

Cro cop VERY BADLY.
Rampage not so much. He's good but he was ultra dominant in his division. He stepped into the ring with Liddle way back when and the old liddel is not the new liddel.

That was not Fedor, that was Silva. Crop Cop lost to Fedor in their only match.

And I think jumping to UFC is Mirko's way of admitting that he knows that he isn't beating Fedor any time soon.

Nothing against Cro-Cop, but Fedor is a machine

Crocop's first opponent in the UFC, Eddie Sanchez, will be convulsing in fear at the start of the match. He will be praying to his God that he does not meet his end. Crocop is the destroyer of worlds.

Fedor was THIIIIIIIIISSS close to losing to Hunt.

Crocop left because #1 He's getting paid a lot of money. #2 Fedor/Pride is screwing with him. He won the OWGP. They should have let Fedor fight Crocop in February and call off the Hunt fight.

eh, let's not go too far here. On some guys, you can crank an Americana, and they just won't get bothered by it. I don't think Fedor was in any serious trouble from those attempts.

Shocking to see him even get put in such a situation, however.

While it was practically surreal to see Hunt get side mount (not once but twice!) and a submission attempt, I don't think there was much real danger there. Fedor was as calm as could be and once Mark saw his americana wasn't going anywhere he just stopped going for it.... then he got swept. Honestly Fedor just looked completely bored throughout that fight (even for him), I was half expecting him to catch a Fujita esque rocker with how sloppy a couple of those take down attempts looked.

Eh? IIRC it was Cro Cop that wanted to delay the Fedor fight "until he was healthy and ready" or some such. I'm as big a Mirko fan as anyone but I think he knows Fedor has his (and everyone elses) number.

I've become a huge fan of Aoki and his tiny pants of doom. His ground game is absolutely electric (that gogoplata was naaassstty). Pride is apparently having a lightweight GP next year (assuming they hang around :( ), probably my favorite to take the whole thing.

Gil vs. Kawajiri, whew... (very) early FOTY candidate? Holy crap did they come to bang.

I saw one sloppy looking takedown attempt by Fedor, after the failed takedowns and before the successful one(s). It looked like after that he started doing some sort of improvised throw. Rather than a normal one he'd extend further but not follow through all the way, to at least get hunt on the ground below him instead of offering up a reversal from failing to complete (thanks to hunt's great balance and weight).

I do wish we could have seen more standup there; very strange that we ended up with 8 minutes of ground fighting in a hunt vs fedor match...

And you're smoking crack if you think fedor was about to lose that fight. Hunt's the man but starting a kimura is not the same thing as finishing it. Huge props to him, though, for getting in mount and/or side mount multiple times and not just in a minimal transitional way either. Pretty sure no one's done that in Pride before him, though probably in Rings thanks to the gimped rules (don't remember all of the Rings fights vividly).

Just watched the Sudo/Page fight. Amazing how
Sudo was able to pull off a submission when it looked like he was in a bad spot up 'til that point.

Also, Genki Sudo's voice is a lot higher-pitched than I would've expected. Anyone know what he said that had the commentators surprised?

His retirement.

After the fight, Sudo stood in the middle of the ring with a microphone in his hand. Sudo thanked everyone for their support and stated that he would like to finish fighting in the ring on this day. Sudo cited a persistent neck injury along with a nagging ankle injury as reasons for his departure at the young age of twenty-eight. Sudo is not only an entertainer in the ring; he is also a musician and writer. Sudo plans travel the world as he continues those endeavors.

So, uh what fights are at the Feb 3rd match? My buds and I are heading out to Vegas and will be in attendance, lol.

GSP is out. He's injured :(

Middleweight Championship match: Anderson Silva vs. Travis Lutter

Rampage Jackson vs. Marvin Eastman

Mirko Cro Cop Filipovic vs. Eddie Sanchez.

No other fights announced yet, I believe, but MMAweekly is reporting these rumours for the undercard and prelims:

Melvin Guillard vs. Dustin Hazelett
-Scott Smith vs. Patrick Cote
-Josh Burkman vs. TBA
-Sam Hoger vs. TBA

I'm surprised they'd give Scott Smith another chance.. didn't he lost both matches on the show?

When will we find out the buyrate for the latest PPV?

Smith KO'd Pete Sell on the live finale of TUF 4 in a great fight.

Buyrate info usually doesn't get leaked for several weeks.

RIP, Eddie Sanchez.

can rampage douche lidell again or do ufc rules and weighting divisions prevent a future match?(LIDELL ISNT THE SAME YADADADAD, pride's shit are above ufc's champs, dont give me that shit.)

Oh I forgot, it was that great finish. Still it looked like he was out on his feet. Sell just got a big to relaxed moving in for the kill and got nailed with an all or nothing right

They both fight in the same weight class. The UFC is basically bringing in Rampage to fight Chuck, so provided he wins his warm up fights, the fight will happen.

In the first fight, Rampage beat Liddell standing, so the UFC rules and format shouldn't affect the fight. Whether Rampage can beat Chuck again depends more on Rampage than Chuck, in my opinion. Chuck has perfected his game against fighters who are primarily grapplers and pose little threat to him standing. We haven't seen anything since their first fight to suggest that Chuck has changed his game to be able to beat Rampage. But that doesn't mean he hasn't, and Chuck has proven that he is very good at rematches against those who have defeated him.

On the other hand, we still haven't been able to determine whether Rampage is a shot fighter after his beatings at the hands of Silva and Shogun. He hasn't really looked impressive since then, but maybe he still has what it takes to beat Chuck.

Sucks about GSP. From what I've seen of him he's one of the more entertaining guys to watch. Even in UFC I like the Canadians more. :D

If Gilbert fights like that against Gomi, he'll get ktfo. I'm betting on Aoki to choke Gomi out myself. He's less likely to stand and trade so he's less likely to catch a ko. UFC lost out on a great fighter in Aoki when he wanted to fight for them last year.

Also, rumor has it that UFC will be carried in live HD for the first time...

Nice, I'll get to see MMA's first in-ring death in beauitful 1080i, which will be moments after MMA's second in-ring pants shitting... also in beautiful 1080i

I actually had Kawajiri winning that fight with the much cleaner blows, Gilbert's relentlessness and volume of attack was admirable though. But yeah, coming at Gomi like that wouldn't be the wisest choice.

Yeah, I didn't hear anything but I definately saw it come on the screen HD on Feb. 3rd

Anyone know if Time Warner is going to be carrying this? On InHD they occassional play a couple UFC shows captured in HD and it really looks amazing.

I'd like to pour one out for Genki Sudo... the most entertaining, theatrical fighter in MMA. May you pull a Michael Jordan and come back in 2 years with a creative ring entrance involving trapeze artists, midgets doing cartwheels, and Genki on stilts with a steam machine backpack and KFC bucket on his head.

I heard that UFC 68 is coming to Columbus, Ohio! (30 minutes from where I live)

I'm tempted to go ...

I heard today that UFC 69 will be in Houston. The rumor is that the GSP/Serra match will take place then. I am thinking of going, but it totally depends on the ticket prices. I remember in LA they were charging like 150 bucks for nosebleed tickets then had to cut prices in half to fill up the place on the day of the event.
