Yes, he was robbed. Fight should've been a draw at most, Bisping won rounds 1&2. Landed more shots, controlled Chael against the cage, stuffed a lot of takedowns and sprawled up almost immediately when he was taken down. In round 3 Sonnen had full mount but couldn't do shit to him. Olympic level wrestler, pfft. And then Bisping ended up taking him down in the end.

He did not land more shots in round one. Look at the stats! Is that what you saw? I'm not taking anything away from Bisping, he's fantastic!

Oh, and I might agree on a draw for that fight. But draw and robbed are two different things! Which is it then?

A reward for your honesty.

Not ashamed to admit I just saved these.

Maybe my bias against Sonnen is influencing what I saw, or maybe Bisping threw more but didn't land... I don't know. I'm willing to admit I was wrong. But anyway you slice it, Sonnen underwhelmed. His promo at the end was even more pathetic considering the way the fight went. LOL

Oh, and big ups to Rashad for walking out to Survival of the Fittest. I'm a Sugah fan now.

edit:

Vesper, just saw your edit. Bisping was robbed of the correct decision, is what I meant, which is a draw.

Sonnen looked like crap out there tonight I agree, but I think it has more to do with people underestimating Bisping than anything else. Bisping is awesome, and now we all know it.

Yeah, I suspected Bisping was a solid fighter for a while, but there were still question marks about his TTD. I think he really proved that he is a legit top 5 fighter in the MW division. Although, with contenders like Maia, the division is looking pretty damn thin. :/

But damn, Bisping has come a long way since the Henderson fight.

Why do people hate on Sonnen's promo cutting?

He's the most entertaining thing about the UFC imo. I was literally screaming "YES!!" when he won the decision.

This is coming from me (a drive-by, non-hardcore purist fan).

I'm so excited to see his match with Silva now.

It's my most anticipated fight because I like Sonnen's schtick.

Yeah I wondered why mayhem looked so bad against Bisping, now I know it was just that Bisping is actually I'm improving. Give him Munoz.

To be sure. I don't know why I haven't taken him that seriously up till now. Bisping knows how to win fights. It is going to be great to watch him going forward....

I find it hard to believe myself, but some people prefer their fighters to wear hideous tapout or affliction t-shirts, drink XXX super energy drink, and then humbly say I will fight whoever Joe Silva puts in front of me.

/wipes forehead

I am so glad I'm not the only one who can't stand those rediculous affiliction t-shirts....

because it;s: fake, transparent, lame, obviously rehearsed (he says the same lines in multiple interviews), and cheapens a young sport that's trying to gain legitimacy turning it into WWE. He's not Muhammed Ali, and his trash talking is ho hum. I honestly think that people that enjoy his "humor" are easily amused and probably think Dane Cook is a funny comedian. Bisping is completely right by saying that Sonnen has become the court jester of the UFC. It's clear that he didn't even have more than one victory speech planned. "Yeah, I just won a close decision. NOW BASK IN MY MAJESTY." Lame.

I personally enjoy watching Sonnen's theatrics, but in my mind, somewhat tarnish the legitimacy of the UFC. I mean, Dana actually let the guy bring a fake belt to the press conf., and then let him ramble on.

Stop it. I'm turned on enough.

As for Chael's promos, they just seem so forced now. He's gone past playing the heel and become a full on parody character.

But he stands out in a sea of fighters AND he's doing a genius job marketing himself.

I couldn't tell you the names of either of the 2 guys that fought in the first fight and tbh, I don't care.

But I remember Chael Sonnen.

The fight when he called out Silva after dismantling his opponent (the last one I think) hooked me.

Nah, Sonnen sat there like a good quiet boy when Dana said the belt was fake and that Sonnen is fighting Anderson if he wins and that his talk about facing Jones and HW's is rubbish.

chael is terrible but yeah i guess if you don't really care and just want to crack up at a guy saying stupid shit until the next funny beer commercial comes on he should hit the spot

But he's winning REAL FIGHTS THAT PEOPLE CAN BET ON.

As long as he's winning, who cares what he rehearses to say?

Like I said before, he's making himself stand out in a sea of countless fighters.

Brilliant self promotion.

Sonnen is good at selling his lines. I'm not sure if he was joking about Bisping's power at the press conference or not. You can't tell anymore.

While I think Bisping looked good tonight, let us not forget that Miller looked like complete shit in that fight. Dana White was right in everything he said after that one.

Also, I would rather hear a million Chael Sonnen Rock ripoff promos than a GSP bullshit speech about how much he wished he could have finished a tough opponent such as Dan Hardy.

The entire point of sonnens antics is that all of you are talking about him right now. And all of you will watch him fight Andy.

Real or fake, he's successful in his purpose.

He's got a record of 20-something wins and 11 losses. That's not a great record. He's been submitted more than any top fighter in the UFC. And he looked VERY beatable in tonight's fight. But he talks as if he's god's gift to MMA. And you say you're a drive-by casual fan, so I don't know how many other fighters you've seen, but there's LOTS of personalities in the sport. The best ones are the ones that make themselves stand out in the ring/cage, not by flapping their gums.

That's not really accurate, at least not accurate across the board. I will watch him fight Andy, because I watch Andy's fights, but I would've preferred to watch Bisping fight Andy. I didn't watch him fight Stann because I don't really care about either fighter.

I started watching every PPV about 6 months or so ago, with a friend that is a total super fan. He explains all the matches and tells me who the better fighters are, who fought previous, etc. He's a HUGE Anderson Silva fan.

I don't follow anything beyond those matches.

I'm pretty impartial to who wins for the most part--I think I was bothered once when Rampage lost to Jones (mostly cause I liked Rampage in A-Team so I wanted to see him win for no other good reason). I just enjoy the vibe of the bar we frequent for the matches. Very rowdy, energetic.

I started following Sonnen when he beat his last opponent before tonight and he called out Dana White to make his rematch with Silva for SB weekend.

Yeah, I'm not sure you can make any legit case that Chael is a draw. Not like he did anything to help 136's buyrate.

He's still just a guy.

Fair enough, but this means you must end your buyrate/brittney arguments.

She's still just a girl.

Chael got the biggest pop at the event today, and he dominated both press conferences. Like it or not he is honestly one of the top 10 draws in the UFC at the moment.

- bisping won that fight by my own scorecard, sonnen looked like shit.
- sonnen was better as a troll and has jumped the shark, as someone else mentioned, with his clearly rehearsed lame promo post fight. he will get wrecked by andy =)
- maia? hope he was sick, as thats the only thing that ALMOST justifys that shitty performance. also, why has he recently abandoned his sub game for his shitty "improved" striking? =(
- good performances from oleviera and dunham

Holy shit have you guys saw the preliminary fights?

Never saw a submission like this:

Look at the pain on that guy face!

Edit: Also, Spider vs. Sonnen on Brazil is going to be nuts!

I can understand the allure of mainstream attention and that Fox money, but so far the execution of the FOX/UFC relationship has been poor.

The whole preliminary debacle (being on some random Fox channel and not showing it on regular Fox).

And the cards may have been miss from the mainstream perspective, though it's not to say UFC hasn't been trying to set up exciting matchups.

He is a parody at this point. He is a boring as fuck lay and pray wrestler that gives Jon Fitch a run for his money.

I suppose the Bisping result can be seen as karma for the Hammil decision that went his way.
In some ways I think it'll be good for Bisping. Despite the impressive performance he probably isn't ready for Silva (and may never be). Another two or three good fights though and he may put up a decent attempt against Silva lol.
I think the UFC may put Bisping up against Belfort next, which would be a decent challenge for him.
Sonnen gonna get fucked by Silva...

What a horrible showing for FOX.

Seriously, 3 boring rounds of a sloppy sparring match between Maia/Weidmann is not going to help MMA/UFC.

Funnily enough, a lot of the prelim fights were pretty good.

UFC on FOX 3 main event is Jim Miller/Nate Diaz? That should be a good one at least.

Probably because it's a good way to get your nuts crushed. Pretty dangerous, but it's cool that he pulled it off.

It's a modified calf crusher. If you fuck it up your ACL is bye bye. Which is why you hardly see it.

I dont event want to think what would happen if Sonnen beats Anderson in Brazil.

UFC on Fox 1 did a 2.4 in the fast nationals, for comparison' sake.

The final rating for UFC on Fox 1 did a 3.1/5 household rating/share, with 5.7 million viewers.

Uncle Dana may have done more damage to his business's future than first estimated.

With numbers like that, why the hell would a casual UFC fan pay for PPV in the future? Just wait till the next UFC on FOX.

Could the era of PPVs be over? We will all have Lord Chael to thank, lol.

Because there's only like 4 a year. The next UFC on FOX is in May. I say any exposure just to get new people watching MMA is good, too bad the fights weren't. This card should have been on PPV and the Aldo fight card should have been free.

Bisping should face his original opponent in Maia to get back to padding his record. I fear he'd lose to Belfort or Munoz at this stage of his career, so Dana/Joe should avoid having other contenders knock him off in effort to build up a new contender for Silva, if he does beat Sonnen.

Also, as posed in the MMA OT, where does this leave Hendo with both Silva and Jones booked?
