UI: Which console (PS4, XBONE, Wii U) does it best?

WiiU is simple but slow.
X1 has plenty of content but unless you can use voice commands well enough it will take some learning.
PS4 seems to be a mix of basic to use yet more content than a WiiU.

In the end they all have their place and they will evolve over time if necessary.
I couldn't really choose my favourite as they all have pro's and con's really.

If voice commands actually worked, I would say Xbone.
The thing is, navigating th UI without voice is awful, and right now, voice controls also sucks.

If you post an opinion please state whether you have actually used any of the ui's. Right now this thread reads like "I've only used the PS4 ui but the Xbox ui sucks."

Actually, there's hundreds of outlets out there that have shown exactly how the UI works on all three systems.

I'll let you know after I actually use the Xbox One's UI tonight, but if it manages to be worst than the Playstation 4's, then I'd be mighty impressed because the Playstation 4's is a step back from the Playstation 3's in many regards - which is saying something since I wasn't the biggest fan of the XMB.

Wii U would be nice if it wasn't so barebones and slow.

The PS4 and Xbone UI's look terrible and generic. I miss custom UI's in consoles...

I wouldn't trust GAF too much with relation to stuff like UI and what not.

Most people here have no problems playing JRPG games and they all have terrible UIs. Or pretty much most Japanese made games.

I have only tried the Wii U so far, but I love how everything is a single tap away. One of the many benefits of the GamePad. It could be a little faster, but I've found it to be fine since the update a few months ago.

I'm excited to get my hands on the PS4 though.

I really like the PS4's UI.
The Wii U is good as well, just slow.

The Xbox One UI looks ok with Kinect, and a mess without, and this coming from someone who is a big fan of W8 Metro UI

Wanna know why the XBOne UI sucks?

Seriously you go into your games and apps menu and when you back out of it it zooms out of that screen so it looks like a metro menu within a metro menu and I’m waiting for Xzibit to peek out somewhere.

METROCEPTION

Xbox One UI looks best on paper, but on use it's a total mess.

Wii U's UI is really, really good, but it needs to be faster.

PS4's UI is kinda bland, but works fine and is fast. If they could mix the PS4 and Wii U designs, it would be great.

After spending time with my bone last night...

PS4 UI is a lot more elegant, snappier and far easier to use/navigate. It's no contest.

Kinda shocked at the praise the xbox one UI has gotten in reviews.

I wasn't very keen on the PS4 UI when I first got it but the more I use it the more it's growing on me. It really is adapting to my activities too which is cool to see evolve.

The Wii U UI (WIIUI?) is still fun and getting better with the always changing plaza but it's still got some ugly fonts and pop-up elements that look really amateurish. The Wii UI had the same problems in areas and Nintendo never fixed them so I'm not too hopeful that will change for the Wii U either.

That said the spontaneous dancing that breaks out in the plaza will probably never get old :lol

Have yet to have a voice command not register on kinect, even picks them up if I speak very quietly. Very impressed so far, even more so because kinect one was such a clusterfuck.

Only own the WiiU but also tried XB1

WiiU: UI is fine for being simple and functional, so far the problem to compete with other UI on consoles is it terrible speed

XB1: all that I tried is functional with just the controller, is focused on multitasking and fast switching, which in Wii U is a problem, so it is actually better, voice commands were responsive when I tried so no complains

PS4: waiting to test it, so no opinions on it so far.

Are people complaining about voice commands actually people who have used it? Or are they making assumptions based on a video they've seen? I've been using them since I hooked it up last night and I have three noisy dogs, and it's been fine. Plus the ability to put what I want, where I want with pinning is great.

The only issue with the WiiU UI is that it could be faster.

Everything else is perfect. The touchscreen works wonders for app selection and internet browsing. I can't even imagine going back to using a web browser with a controller.

And being able to use it without the TV is amazing. Like last night, my wife is watching some stupid reality show on TV. But, Mario is ready to be downloaded. I don't need to switch off her show to start downloading Mario. Its these little things that make me really, really appreciate the WiiU system.

i kinda like the wii u interface. but don't like the speed on it. i like ps4 for the speed but hate the scrolling marquee style of it. that's all i can say unless i can pop in W8 metro lol.

It's new, it's flashy, who doesn't like that.

I recently bought a new laptop with Windows 8, initially I too was enjoying the colourful new layout, especially when I had spare time to play around with it. Now I'm just using it as a device, the clumsy nature of tiles, the weird shortcuts, and other novelties, are seriously getting in the way of accessing the desktop and programs I need - it's frustrating.

By contrast, pick up a new IOS or Android phone, the user experience is quick, simple and intuitive. That's the impression I get from PS4 videos, the initial wow factor (if you can call it that), is not there, but in everyday use it does what it says on the box.

Wii U is very simple to use and since the updates it is very stable and faster.

Gaming, Netflix and the internet browser(youtube - not the youtube app) are what I use the most and they do a great job.

Was very very surprised since launch with the supercharged Internet Browser, amazingly fast.

Yeah, Nintendo is to be commended on that internet browser. It is by far the best user experience for internet browsing through a console.

The simplicity of the Wii U is great, but because of it, everything feels seperate from one another. There's no real "experience" using the Wii U's OS.

Haven't used the others, but I love how integrated everything is into the OS itself. They look a bit overwhelming at first though.

Another thing that should I should have added is a comment on the storefronts. The PSN store is significantly more responsive on the PS4 than it is on the PS3 but it's still cumbersome to find what you want compared to the old PSN store.

Somehow, even with the disastrous lack of an account system, the Wii U store is still the easiest to get in and out of quickly. I thought that it was just a launch thing last year because there was so little content at first but even now with loads of software it's incredibly easy to navigate.

The big thing that Nintendo needs to tighten up after adding accounts is shortening the process of actually buying something. It's too many steps on both the Wii U and PS4 actually.

Problem with the wii u is that it's too slow in comparison to the other two. Also the multi-tasking and fuctionality is a bit limited compared to xbone/ps4

I would say ps4 for simplicity, xbone for aesthetics and functionality

I'd probably argue that the Wii U has the most intuitive, clean interface. But it's ugly. I hate the white bubble look that Nintendo has adopted since the Wii. And it's slow.

Limited how?

1.) Pull up a browser any time.
2.) Jump into a game without issue.
3.) Change channels and/or inputs on your TV, control the volume, etc. All without any hiccups.
