UK 3DS XL Price Roundup

I got my 3DS for £70 off a mate, boxed but no cradle...will game still take it?

An extra 69.99 on top would make it £139.99 for me! I didnt like the console as the design didn't seem right and screens were tiny.

GAME how I love thee!!!

Makes up for those share losses!!

Yeah they will. In fact you don't even need the original box.

3DS Console, A Stylus and the AC Adapter are all that's needed for a trade in. So unless they have changed the trade in guidelines without telling me you should be able to hold on to the SD card to.

Brought the cheap usb charger on amazon as well a pre ordering the unit. Hopefully the price lowers a bit and i get charged that instead.. Well done to gamestation for keepong low prices..hopefully instore they match the online.
Anyways will back up the 3DS data then trade it in for store credit at my gamestation

I'm not from the UK but here's what you could do.Buy a new 3DS at a local store. Trade in the current 3DS to a a game store after you transfer data, games, ambassador status, etc. Then transfer it to the 3DS XL once it arrives and return the other 3DS back to the store.

Could I just get £120 credit from GAME and use it against a Wii-U instead?

Just seen the unboxing on youtube and the console doesn't scream wow at me.

It's a single market, you just pay vat at the Italian rate and the post it to you. No customs/duty issues
Actually I think it adjust VAT to your local level (ie. when i added 3DS XL at Amazon.it at checkout it costed me EUR 192,16 instead EUR 189,04, the same when I buy stuff from amazon uk).

That's your problem right there.

Go in to ANY Game or Gamestation and ask to have a go on the demo 3DS XL they have behind the counter. Try it yourself.

Ordered a silver from Sainsburys. Are they guaranteeing for launch day?

What's odd about this launch is that it's a Saturday - this NEVER happens in the UK. EVER. At the very most, a game might launch on a Tuesday instead of the usual Friday (like COD), but a Saturday is extremely unusual. Most outlets will probably treat Friday 27th as the launch (like Blockbuster are doing). Sainsburys will probably follow suit - the exact wording Sainsburys used is "Either before or on the release date". Sounds like you're fine.

I assume they are giving you more trade in only as part of buying a 3DSXL

Any idea if they'll bump ds lite tradein prices up? My kids have one each and I could trade those in, and then they could get my 3DS between them

Then there is Zavvi who will just send it whenever they feel like it after the official release date. :D

Speaking as someone with a sibling: this plan sounds like it would cause you a lot more hassle in the long run if your kids, being used to having both their own systems, suddenly have to share one to play games. Unless you mean a 3DS to share for 3DS games + another older DS or something.

Got my DS XL ordered with Tesco's limited 15% off £25 offer last week with Pokemon White on a preorder as well. Had staff discount too so it's about £159, just waiting on the 10% Quidco Cashback to show up to make it that little bit cheaper. Just hope they deliver better than they maintain the Entertainment site, that thing is so darn glitchy!

Well there is an old DS phat lying around, but TBH they mostly use the 3DS now, especially since mario kart came out. And they could use the XL if I'm not using it so it'd work out.

Could you get hit with 20% VAT when it enters the UK or is it like the companies being based in Jersey so you get away with it?

It's happened to me importing from Japan and the US but never from the EU.

£161 at Sainsburys sounds like a great deal.

No, the EU is a customs union.

Thanks. I'm holding you personally responsible if it doesn't happen though :p

Bought one from Amazon Italy, cost €194.48 with standard delivery. Estimated delivery date to the UK, August 2nd to 6th. I'm in no rush so that should be good for me! :)

Game said on twitter they will include an AC adaptor with the 3DS XL

At the extortionate price they're selling the console at, they had better supply an adapter with it.

Seems like they'll use the added adapter to attempt to justify the cost.

I just popped in to GAME in Cardiff and they confirmed to me a £179.99 price point. They even scanned in a box (albeit in the back room) and checked their preorder sheets. They did have a RRP of £199.99 on a poster at the door though.

Between £90 for my old 360, £10 for the WiFi Adapter and some credit for old 360 games I traded in I am now fully paid up on the 3DS XL :-) Ordered a Red Model.

Just gonna keep my normal 3ds, these prices are way to high even when trading. It was always gonna happen when Nintendo refused to set a price point in the UK.

Just over £150 on amazon Italy is cheap as hell, considering the standard 3DS is still retailing at £134.99.

Sainsbury online's £161 price is great too.

Nice thread with the Amazon Italy deal. I canceled my Zavvi order, I had it for £158.94 with a coupon but this store doesn't have a great reputation (also their FAQ states they cancel console pre-orders to foreign countries, though they hadn't done so yet).

Transfare my stuff, I really hate Nintendo's backwards policy towards online infrastructure.

I should just be able to login to a Nintendo ID and download from my history, like every other modern device.

You are correct. I think some years ago it wasn't this way, and I think it's still legal to charge the VAT at the seller's level, but for some reason Amazon always charges the destination VAT now...

Why would you do that? Just sell it on Ebay, you'll get a much better price.

EBay? Fuck that.

I'm out of £80 due to two scammers on there. Sell a 3DS on there at your own peril, as if you are scammed by some dick, PayPal will NOT side with you. EVER.

Haha just came in to post this but with the Caerphilly Gamestation as the store I got it confirmed from.

Got a silver one preordered, really looking forward to it.

Wish UK would match italy. Dunno if £25 is worth the hassle of the language barrier if things go south.

It's Amazon, the chance of things going south is almost zero, and I wouldn't be surprised if they give support in English for orders from abroad.

I don't understand. If you sell a 3DS, you won't post it until you get payment confirmed from Paypal, so I'm not sure how you can be scammed.

Admittedly when buying people can not send you anything, but when that's happened to me I got a refund from Ebay no problem. Though I guess your experience may vary...

Could you elaborate? I've heard of eBay nightmares and I'm curious.
I've heard the nightmare too, but my experiences have always been good, and my mum is a prolific user. I've been on there for the first time in a long while the last few days trying to pick up some cheap games, as I wasn't prepared for how expensive even older Nindendo games for DS would be when I preordered a blue XL on impulse. Fingers crossed for no issues, I've ordered copies of Pokemon Black and OoT, looking to try and pick up 3d land today.

Sold limited edition Zelda Skyward Sword on Ebay and another game separately to two COMPLETELY different buyers. On both accounts, the following happened:

1. Item sold. Buyers send payment through paypal. I withdraw the money to my bank account and send the item. ALL IS GOOD

2. I get an email after two weeks saying that the buyer has put through a dispute on PayPal (item not working). I know they're fucking scamming me, as they're BRAND NEW ITEMS. I put in a counter-claim.

3. PayPal freezes my account.

4. PayPal sides with the buyers. I never hear from them again (lost my items), and my PayPal balance is negative £85.

5. I get debt collection letters and forced to pay.

Hopefully that's cleared up your questions about the wonderful nature of Ebay! I'm far from the only one. It's TOO much of a risk, especially when it's something that's valuable as PayPal NEVER, EVER side with the seller.

They can't set a price due to EU Law.

The most they can do is suggest a retail price i.e. an M.S.R.P, Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price [previously known as 'Recommended Retail Price, or R.R.P.]

The only price they can set is the trade price i.e. what they ask retailers to pay to them to stock the product.

Plus, Nintendo were prosecuted some years ago by the EU for Price Fixing so you do the maths :P.
