We do give American sports a chance but the fact is they are on Channel 5 (were when i last watched them) along with the NBA and the Baseball at about 2am in the morning and no-one likes watching replays of "live sports" during the day so theres no chance there. Also its hard to convince people who watch a full flowing game of Football (soccer) with 1 ad break in the entire game to sit and watch sports where every 5 minutes the teams find excuses not to play but celebrate Doritos new steakburger flavoured crisps. It is quite a culture shock to see sports where i feel you are watching 90 minutes of advertising with a few minutes of sport thrown in to break up the monotony

But baseball? That's just dull. Nobody can stand to watch that. Which is strange considering how most people theoretically like cricket, which in my mind shares so many (dull) similarities with baseball but goes on for even longer. I think cricket's popularity must be down to tradition rather than any actual interest in the mechanics of the sport.

Baseball doesn't have TMS.

Don't both these points apply even more to ice hockey than basketball? And yet ice hockey isn't popular in the UK either, is it?
Pretty sure hockey is more popular than ice hockey here.

Why is handball not more popular in the UK? I would assume it has more appealing characteristics to british viewers then basketball or ice hockey.

its pretty common understanding you need more physical talent to play basketball.
I was waiting for NBA-age to arrive. :lol

Has there ever been a must -have UK prospect? I feel like the WWE has more UK talent than any international basketball league.

By hockey, do you mean field hockey? It was quite thee revelation to me when my former pakistani roommate told ner that the sport was played by men in his home country, he was quite good and joined our school's club team.

Not nearly the same thing.
But that's just as jarring to us. You don't put ads on the uniforms, that shit is sacred man.

Is there a pro league in the uk?

Yes, there is a pro league, the BBL, but it isn't especially strong (because of lack of media coverage, indigenous talent, money etc etc) and has no representation in European competition (Euroleague, Eurocup or EuroChallenge). There is one team, the Newcastle Eagles who are very well run, get decent support and aspire to compete in Europe soon. Finances prevented them from doing so already. The last time a British team competed in Europe it was the Guildford Heat (Luol's brother Ajou Deng played for them) three seasons ago in the Eurocup, which is the second tier European competition. They ended up with a 0-10 record.

I feel like basketball has really exploded over many cultures, so I'm sure the UK will get it eventually. Its a good sport to watch, and where I'm from, most people prefer basketball to football even.
