UK retailers: Zero interest in Wii Mini launch

The ugliest, most nonsensically feature stripped, and undesirable major console ever released. Every single party that was involved in conceiving of, developing, and approving this travesty deserves to be fired, and I don't say that in jest. This is the product of a team of developers and executives that is creatively bankrupt, completely out of touch with the market, and lacking in even the most basic common sense.

I actually know quite a few people who would pick it up if it had VC and component out. I really don't understand why they gimped it so badly and still charge that much for it.

This. I might have grabbed one to throw in my living room and play some Wii games that I missed with my son. I didn't even care about internet functionality being culled. But the fact that it only supports composite video output is an absolute deal breaker. I'm still scratching my head as to how they thought that was a good decision, especially at the price point they're trying to shift these units at.

People scoffed at the Game Boy Mini when is came out and doomed at retail. But look at it now and it's a major collectors item. The Wii Mini may well become a collectors item as much.

Doesn't change the fact it is bringing in next to no revenue for Nintendo.

I hate to say this, but it deserves to fail. Maybe Nintendo will learn a lesson. (Of course, no guarantee they'll learn the right lesson).

No company i know is stocking the Wii Mini (i work for an entertainment distributor here in the UK) and two of our clients are large retailers.

Maybe this will make Nintendo realise that we can get rid of the space for the Wii and make a bit more room for their new console.

Right now, they're insisting that we give both Wii and Wii U equal space.

The Wii Mini makes me satisfied that I got myself a new BC Wii cheap on a sale a couple of months ago. Keeping that one boxed & sealed.

I was thinking, zero interest world wide. Maybe they won't run it for long, maybe pick one up as a collectors piece. And then you can tell your grandkids abou the failed Wii Mini.

look how much space is wasted

I believe it's supposed to be a misleading shot, but nevertheless there's only so much you can shrink a console that's barely larger than a disc drive at it is.

And... yeah, this kind of console release may've worked to some extent in the 90s, cutting out stuff like above composite video, but it's bullshit today and lunacy to leave out wi-fi. And while not essential the lack of an SD slot does make it a dead end for saves.

Wouldn't be too sure of that

somebody please post that pic with the prices of both a bundle of a regular Wii and a Wii mini, where we learn that you actually pay more for less.

I feel sorry for nintendo but damn... is hard to feel symptahy for releasing something as stupid as this. PSP go all the way.

I still think the Wii mini's price is insane. $99 for 88mb of ram in 2013. What's even more funny is DS also costs the same and it has like, 4mb of ram.

Nintendo knows how to rip people off.

It was to begin with but nobody believed they really designed it just for Canada.
First Canada, then Europe, then THE WORLD!

Oh I get that. I just thought I'd hear of it before it released here. There were ads for each of the console and handheld revisions here (including the PSP e1000). Seen nothing for this. I was even in GAME and Gamestation last week and nothing. I wonder when it came out

You guys are nuts. This has a ton more amenities for it's value than you think.

A/V cables included? They should have cut costs and just included a coaxial cable port, with no cable included, since everyone has one of those lying around.

USB port and flash memory? Axe both of those. They could retrofit 64DD tech into this thing for save states, SD is for the 1%.

Wireless controller technology? This thing should have included wired Wii controllers.

If anything Nintendo is putting too MUCH into this package.

It's stupidly expensive. What's the point that way?

If Nintendo wants to give the Wii new life as a kids or casual console, they need to sell it for 79€ and expand the players' choice line considerably.

What they are doing now, is just pointless.

Not surprised.

The thing is called Mini, yet it's almost the same size. The only thing that would make it 'mini' is that they shrunk the numbers of features and that ain't good.

Most people rather have the good old Wii with GC BC at this point.

EDIT: Oh yeah...it looks horrible and cheap too. :/

It's a shit product. There's no way around it.

Wrong price
Wrong timing
Wrong revisions

It deserves to bomb.

If Nintendo brings this bullshit cash-grab to the US, then I'll know they truly just hate every market that's not Japan..

The more interesting pickup from this thread is not the scammy, cynical Wii mini that deservedly isn't selling; it's that Nintendo are still asking for equal retail space for Wii and Wii U.
