How am I the first one to post this?!

If you have a hot teacher, hide the phone in your underwear and tell him/her you don't have it on you. If the teacher doesn't believe you, he/she will have to frisk you.

*sighs* Fucking Tories, making draconian and authoritarian laws out of corrupt ideology. Why am I not surprised?

Guaranteed to cause a court case or two, at the very least. This law is the same typical old-school Tory reactionary horse-manure they tried to spread around during the early '90s. Remember random Stop & Search powers for street police? The Poll Tax? Not to mention all sorts of other rights-breaching bullshit I can't be bothered to remember because it never became law. (Not to say that New Labour were any better on civil liberties, but then, they did become Tory Lite to get elected.)

On-topic - taking the phones until the end of the day I can understand, but seize & search powers? With the amount of private and personal shit on the average phone these days? What next, are they going to issue teachers with handheld metal detectors and full-body scanners like in airports? Or maybe they'll go the disciplinary route and give each teach a brand new Stun-Cane to keep the unruly yobs in line? I'm being facetious to make a point here, of course, but even so, I wouldn't fucking put it past them.

Also, this is going to break so many European privacy laws it's silly.

Aegus: Of course it's England only, the other parts of the Union are devolved, they don't have to put up with this bullshit unless their own MPs want to spread it.

When I was a kid, they were allowed to prohibit things in class. They were allowed to spank kids who disrupted the class. They were allowed to enforce all the school rules strictly and sensibly. And when I was a kid, we still put men on the goddamned moon.

You little shitbags cry and get your moms to sue the schoolboard the second you get asked to stop posting cock-swastikas on your bullying-target's Facebook.

I have no problem with the idea of this (searching the phones) but it's a legal minefield waiting to happen. Although, I didnt notice if it said the kid was forced to say the combo to unlock the phone if it is locked, so any smart kid wouldnt have to worry about this.

I'm fine with a two-strike rule instead.

First time your mobile rings in class or you're found using the mobile in class then you get a warning.
The second time it happens, it's confiscated for the rest of the school day.

I'm fine with a students should not have cellphones in primary shools, period. There's no reason for it.

You sound like some of the old folks near where I live. Even they realise, though, that shit like that wouldn't fly nowadays, not with Europe and straight bananas and stuff like that.
