*sighs* Fucking Tories, making draconian and authoritarian laws out of corrupt ideology. Why am I not surprised?
Guaranteed to cause a court case or two, at the very least. This law is the same typical old-school Tory reactionary horse-manure they tried to spread around during the early '90s. Remember random Stop & Search powers for street police? The Poll Tax? Not to mention all sorts of other rights-breaching bullshit I can't be bothered to remember because it never became law. (Not to say that New Labour were any better on civil liberties, but then, they did become Tory Lite to get elected.)
On-topic - taking the phones until the end of the day I can understand, but seize & search powers? With the amount of private and personal shit on the average phone these days? What next, are they going to issue teachers with handheld metal detectors and full-body scanners like in airports? Or maybe they'll go the disciplinary route and give each teach a brand new Stun-Cane to keep the unruly yobs in line? I'm being facetious to make a point here, of course, but even so, I wouldn't fucking put it past them.
Also, this is going to break so many European privacy laws it's silly.
Aegus: Of course it's England only, the other parts of the Union are devolved, they don't have to put up with this bullshit unless their own MPs want to spread it.
