I just received this email from South East Water

"Water supplies are struggling in your area

We know some of you have been without water at times across the very hot weekend and we are incredibly sorry for this. For those in supply, we now need your help. Please use water for essential purposes only: drinking, washing and cooking."

This is after a 3 day heat wave after a very wet winter.
My Water bill is nearly £1000 pa

The UK must have one of the wettest climate in the western world?
What are these companies doing?

A few hot days and everyone starts watering gardens, filling paddling pools, showering more, etc. Demand explodes.

Happens in my country too (The Netherlands). And that's in a country that's basically built around water management

I work the water industry. The reason you're getting this is because the South East of England is incredibly water stressed. The population is growing too fast in that area for SEW and TW to keep up with demand.

We can blame the the water companies for not having enough reservoirs, burst mains etc etc, but population growth in the South East is the biggest issue and massive concern for all providers in the area.

Also, regarding the UK being a wet climate, the South East actually receives less rainfall than many people assume. Some parts get less annual rainfall than regions around Rome. It's a dry region of England.

Best of luck to the UK bros. Heat + a lot of humidty sure makes for a shitty climate.

I'm in the dark red area in the middle of Spain and it's kinda comfy lol, those maps always make it look worse than how it is.

ANGRY colors, typical these days to alarm people. They should use orange for 30+ temperature and reserve red for 35+ (dark red for 40+).

Red at 25?

Aye ^^ a mixture of things

We lose 1trn litres of water a year due to leaks/broken pipes
We haven't built any new reservoirs to keep up with population growth
One side says privatisation meant more money went to dividends than investment, the other side says regulation means low customer bills was prioritised over investment
Agriculture demand has risen organically and then indirectly due to climate change
We use drinking quality water to wash our cars, water the garden instead natural untreated water

Are you telling us that immigrants are fucking up the water storage as well?

The fact is that population growth in the area is a huge factor for the water stress.

Fixing the pipe work and replacing the old Victoian pipes are part of the cause, but even if all those pipes were replaced, population growth would still be an issue and stress the demand.

Do I drink the water my poop travels in?

Is there an AI center near you?

It'll be peeing it down next week, well in Devon anyway, so hopefully you can survive until then.

Stay strong brother💪😎

(E) And how in hell is your bill £1k pa?
We have the highest rates in the UK and mine was just under £600 last year.

What region are you in OP? United Utilities (North West) is holding up fine from their status report. Free electric from Octopus too due to all the sun over charging the grid.

All Europeans you mean, and Americans, and Australians.

We need......

Sadly, I think the rate and direction of change is so rapid that it will lead to....

we have COUNTLESS examples of what's happening and where it goes. We have the benefit of better understanding of previous civilizations and how they fell and were almost entirely replaced, so now we just have the choice of what to do about it.......or do nothing.

Those "scorching hot red" areas look like 30 and below which is 86F. I'd call that a pleasantly warm day. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Apparently Europe is currently in the depths of hell with that color scheme, but it's all temperatures people pay the outrageously big bucks for to live in California.

Taking the piss. Giving themselves dividends rather than plugging leaks.

I live in Bolton, literally nextdoor to a fuck load of reservoirs in rivington. Guaranteed they'll go dry again this summer despite having ample time to prepare for it.

They're also lying about our true population.

They haven't built any new reservoirs since the 70's and sold all the water companies to foreign owners and they are all in massive debt, done on purpose to charge us for water.

29 here feels like the 40 in Rome I experienced.

What Americans don't understand about the UK heat is that our climate is very humid, this isn't a dry 32c like most of the states, this is close to like swamplands in Florida. It's hot but also sticky.

Americans don't spend more than 5 minutes away from air conditioning. About the time it takes them to waddle from their monster truck to the walmart.
