the line between prog house and trance is so blurred these days it almost exclusively comes down to a question of bpm. for instance, Above & Beyond, typically considered 'trance', plays a lot of prog-house on their podcast but at a slightly faster bpm than the track was composed at. then people call it 'trance'.
basically at some point there's too much 'oonce oonce' and people call it 'trouse' instead.

basically what happened-
The Swedish House Mafia/Steve Aoki/Hardwell/AVIICI "dirty dutch electro house" sound became mainstream 4-5 years ago. Typical Trance DJ's who wanted to stay current, make big money and contiune to get booked on the main stage, switched from Trance to a fusion of Shit car alarm sounds+fart noises with big builds, crescendos, and drops.

This is so false. The sad truth of the matter is that if it wasn't for trouse, trance would be so small right now. The mainstream public just don't want to hear it. You think Armin would be able to have this much success with his ASOT tour if all of the DJs were Solarstone?
As a huge trance fan you just have to learn to accept trouse (the "trance" melodies in these tracks make it worth it for me), while enjoying people like Giuseppe and Solarstone as well. It's the only way.
I have yet to see a good set from them. Saw them live twice and once on Ultra stream. They are shit. Yelling into the mic half of the time, which is 90% just nonstop cussing.
They are streaming Fanciuli b2b Carl Cox at 5:15 for 30 minutes. I don't know what b2b means.

Meh I don't mind Krewella when I saw them. Nowt special, but fine. Much prefer em to W+W and garrix esque stuff. Least they have a distinctive (kinda) sound.

trance today is barely a shadow of what the genre started as. what the public wants to hear is dance-pop with soaring trance synths and anthemic lyrics. eric prydz comes kind of close with his unique brand of crunchy/dark synths, but even he cheeses it up pretty regularly. trance is barely even what it was at the turn of the century when guys like Oakenfold and Paul Van Dyk were dominating the genre and even THEN people were crying about how trance was this cheesy mass of poppy bullshit.
the fact is trance will NEVER return to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMYEUbbr_48 and will probably continue on this trajectory of marrying poppy structures with blaring synths and driving beats. which is fine, it's popular, it makes money, and people want to hear it, it mostly just serves to prove how useless genre labels can be when what the genre is continually changes.
