Mashups/bootlegs see pretty heavy rotation in EDM festivals so I don't see why you couldn't discuss them in the thread.

Figured, but didn't just want to barge into the new thread without asking. I'll have a lot of stuff to contribute come thread time then. Woo.

Interesting, why don't you consider Avicii/SHM/Alesso as part of the progressive house genre? I always thought they were more on the prog house side.

I definitely consider Avicii and co to be progressive house. There's no way that should be classified as just straight house music. I actually call them Swedish House lol. It's a sound that I only really heard since SHM anyway.

But yea, labeling artists is going to be really hard. What is W&W? Some people classify them as trance, tech-trance, house, trouse. I think it will be best to keep it broad and go with House, Trance, Dubstep, Drum n Bass.

You can do a techno section but who listens to straight up techno? :P

Out of curiosity, since genres are being discussed, would mashups be off limits in the EDM OT? Or are they allowed if they heavily involve, or comprised entirely of EDM?

Mashups are definitely welcome. I love me some good mashups

Been listening to the Bingo Partners set off and on all day, so godlike.

How do you classy that dirty electro sound they have going?

That doesn't really mean anything, I'm sure every festival will be trying to get Daft Punk next year. Doesn't mean that they necessarily will be able to.

BTW you guys should check out Fedde Le Grand's set, it's quite solid.

I got to see BT (and Paul Oakenfold) back in 2000 at Red Rocks in Colorado. Front row. This was way before he was doing the whole Laptop Symphony thing, so it was an actual producer's set with all his synths and MIDI gear and whatnot. His main keyboard glitched out on him a couple times during the set, so he literally destroyed it at the end of the performance. So sick!

I saw BT for the very first time 2 weeks ago at Lucky festival here in Seattle, he was really good, played a very solid set. He's coming again here in May and im definitely going to be there

oh and this picture is breathtaking, during SHM final performance

Man, the amount of people watching SHM, ridiculous! I want to be on that boat with the neon lights action going on haha.

Where is the ASOT/Carl Cox stage? I can't find it lol

It was a bit further down the street at the bottom left of the picture. I'm still in disbelief of this whole weekend. Looking back on it all went by in a blur. I can barely even remember some moments from last night and SHM, met an amazing girl there, just so much for my brain to process right now. Ultra weekend is like Christmas when I was a kid on steroids. I struggle to find words.

Nice, I'm definitely thinking of going to ultra next year but I heard its super expensive compared to EDC... gotta save up around 2k

Well I guess if you count hotel fees and whatnot. The ticket itself is probably not that much more now. EDC Vegas is pricey too now. Fucking Insomniac.

EDC you get the Vegas experience though, but Ultra seems a bit more epic.

Sensation White is overhyped, I saw the NYC show and it was pretty underwhelming. EDC Vegas was freaking phenomenal, but since the show is in the Las Vegas speedway it takes you about 3 hours to get from the hotel to the venue because there's like 100,000 people driving there at the same time. The festival ends at 5am all three days, but by the time you get back to your hotel it's like 8am in the morning and you're just completely exhausted. I might go again next year, but I'll probably ignore the festival itself and just go to pool parties and shit.

BTW the EDM OT should be up later today or early tomorrow. I've got most of the material written down (trying to keep it relatively concise) and I'm just doing a little polishing. If anyone is interested in taking a look at it later today when I'm done with it and would like to give me comments, let me know and I'll PM it to you before it goes up.

I don't know what happened to the EDC driving situation. When I went to EDC in 2011 for the first year in Vegas there was practically no traffic. We got there around 9 and waited in 0 traffic to park. We left at like 5 or so (I think it ended at 6 that year) with everyone else and there was barely any traffic. Got home quick and easy. Wonder what they changed..
