Damn it, I went down stairs and walked around trying to get some tickets to get in and see Armin, but I had no luck, and the guy that got me in Friday wouldn't answer the phone.
Now I sit here listening to the awesomeness outside and watching the stream![]()
This is really, REALLY EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ur outside ultra n watchign the stream?
http://www.madeevent.com/ElectricZoo/That was a really great stream! I need to be there next year!!!! Too bad EDC is sold out where I am in Jersey. But I'm pumped now and don't know if I can go to sleep.

Went to the one in 2010, it was great. Though I skipped out on last years cause there wasn't enough DJs that I like that was playing and the ticket prices keep on getting jacked up year after year. I'm waiting to see who's headlining this year to see if its worth it.
I'm definitely going to try to attend in 2013. Maybe we should try to have a GAF-meetup?!?![]()
guetta's and armin's brand of cheese aren't really my thing but that was a great way to end the festival. ultra has really set the bar for livestreaming a festival.
right, i just mentioned them together as they were the last 2 acts on the stream. To be fair, they're different types of cheese.

It should pop up here soon.
Anyone have a link to Armin's setlist?
i suppose i don't either, many DJs i know personally do pre-mixes frequently as well. it's not that i'm questioning his ability to string songs together, but you'd thinkfor the NUMBER ONE DJ in the world he'd be capable of showing his skill/craft to a live audience instead of basically running a playlist and fiddling with EQ levels.I watched a youtube before where he talks about his mixing. He has all cue points made at home and ready to go. I don't see a problem with that.

The only DJ I really see going crazy nuts with skill during live sets is Laidback Luke, the man is a fucking beast!
What more does any DJ do these days other than load songs on Traktor, press play and play with EQ levels?
What more does any DJ do these days other than load songs on Traktor, press play and play with EQ levels? Honest question. Don't know what else he could do with technology the way it is now. His song selection and just overall energy is probably what makes him the best there is still.
the fact you asked this question in honesty bothers me about the state of what people consider "DJing" today. being a DJ has zero to do with pushing technology, and especially nothing to do with utilizing technology to make your job easier. being a DJ is something that should require a measurable skill that can be demonstrated with the beat-matching, mixing, and selection of music in front of a live audience. What more does any DJ do these days other than load songs on Traktor, press play and play with EQ levels? Honest question. Don't know what else he could do with technology the way it is now.
his set was pretty good, i enjoyed it. i liked the part where he wound up a loop so tight it was unrecognizable and then recreated the refrain from seven nation army with it.The only DJ I really see going crazy nuts with skill during live sets is Laidback Luke, the man is a fucking beast!
unless someone is using vinyl, or very obviously rifling through a folder of CD-Rs, almost anyone using CDJs now is using them in conjunction with serato scratch live or ableton. there were several shots of fatboy slim's setup where he was clearly using serato. at least then i can trust the man is MIXING music live on the stage, and not wiggling his wrists to a pre-cued set of songs.Hardly any big DJs use Traktor, though. 99% of those guys used the setup at hand: CDJs. I guess people just expect DJs to do what they've always done: mix.
The only time it bothers me is when it's obvious that someone up there never even bothered to learn how to DJ.

I love how these guys are producers and create their own music which is hard as fuck, but we nitpick because they aren't the best live dj's
sure, i'm just saying that when you can visually ascertain that someone is selecting vinyls from a crate or CD-Rs from a folder, they're either making a good show of it, or you can at least trust they're mixing music on the fly. i have zero qualms about the medium used (vinyl, CD, usb, etc).Nah, they're usually using them with a USB stick. Fatboy Slim and Aoki were using SSL, but only a few DJs had a laptop at all. They were in the minority. Obviously there were a few who use Traktor as a crutch, like Zedd. But for the vast majority, It's always CDJs (but not necessarily CDs).
yeah what he said.I'm sorry, but if you're getting paid thousands of dollars to do a particular job, you might want to learn how to do that job. I don't think anyone is nitpicking about not being the best live DJ, just that they should be competent.
"That was terrible. Mixes were shoddy, the track selection was sub-par, and he missed a drop more than once, but his record (which he played one track from) is awesome so it's all good!"
