Um yeah, Super Mario Galaxy is quite good

I've only played Super Mario 64, for a couple of stages. I always thought the controls were little slippery on the N64. So I'm quite noob for 3D Mario games.

Anyway

I bought the Nintendo Selects version of Super Mario Galaxy, and have been playing it for 50 stars. It's pretty good IMO. Looks and controls great, sometimes I have problems when Mario is upside down to control it right direction and the camera is not always in good position. Also the difficulty is fine for me. There are stages, where I die multiple times, like comet stages, so the game is not a cakewalk.

I'm not sure about trying to collect all the stars, or just try to finish the game by decent amount of stars.

After I finish the game, I'll wait maybe a month and then starts Super Mario Galaxy 2, and try to finish it before Skyward Sword arrives.

galaxy is my favorite game this gen. I'm glad you got a chance to experience it as well.

obligatory:
galaxy 2 isn't as good its just a map pack

It's a glitchy open world game with good movement but horrendous boss battles and a really dumb plot twist?

poor prototype. almost forgot it existed.

edit: also, yes

Oh yeah, forgot to add, wait a while after finishing SMG before SMG2. Play some games in between. It'll make the return to the galaxy much more amazing.

You'll probably burn out otherwise.

You haven't come close to seeing everything yet. Once you pass 60 stars or so, the real party gets started.
^^ Yeah. Try to get as close to 120 as possible.

Both are incredible games. I still prefer 64, but that's just because I generally prefer games to be a bit less linear.

Both Galaxy games are among this generation's absolutely finest games. Though I prefer the second game slightly due to a couple of absolutely mind blowing stages.

I played both at their respective launches. Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan it felt good to return to that pure of a game after 2 and a half years or so.

That .2 difference!

Urgh.
The difference really is that small for me. My only minor gripes with Galaxy 2 is that the plot didn't feel like an continuation of the first game and felt more like a rehash, and the galaxies were really small and linear compared to the ones in the first game.

are we really going to discuss about the plot of a mario game? O.o

You're probably the only person I've ever seen use the word "plot" when talking about a mainline Mario platformer. :P

Ah! Nice one, I was just about to say that! :D

I loved both this one and its sequel, I had much more fun with these than with Sunshine.

I'd say it's a great game.

To me Galaxy 1 and 2 have the best level design this generation. That said neither are my favorite games (that would be Shattered Memories and BlazBlue) but they are great experinces from start to finish.

Dolphinize that sumbitch and your eyes will tremble with joy.
Yeah, dolphin shows the undeniable truth about how jaggies canhurt a game.
Jaggies ruin the art that these talented people have made.

High resolution and Anti aliassing are extremely important.

I just hate that people differentiate people a 10 and a 9.8 when talking about two games. Assigning numbers to it like that just sounds stupid.

Super Mario Galaxy 2, while not a huge leap from the original SMG, is the pinnacle of platforming. I doubt it'll ever get surpassed.

Ha ha, I knew I was going to receive backlash for talking about the plot of a Mario game. I really enjoyed the plot and the use of cutscenes in the first game. It made the first game feel really epic that no other Mario game felt before. I was disappointed that the second game cut back on those elements.

I was just trying to convey that while I enjoyed the second game less, it wasn't by that much. That's all.

Super Mario Galaxy is to Super Mario Galaxy 2 what Assassin's Creed was to Assassin's Creed II. Absolute tripe.

Not really :P
But still, Super Mario Galaxy, as great as it is, absolutely pales in comparison to the much superior and outright fantastic Super Mario Galaxy 2.

into an interview miyamoto clearly said that the first galaxy game was way too cinematic and had way too much story that what he'd have liked.

i don't think we are ever going to see that much story in any other mario game.

I am playing SMG2 for the first time and I have this smile on my face that is sort of... I just cannot describe why I am smiling but it's just that I am smiling.

I haven't get to the part of motion controls are really required though... hopefully it is implemented well.

The best games this generation by a considerable stretch.

Puts the rest of the gaming industry to shame.

Your hilarious.

'Quite good' is pretty much exactly how I felt about Galaxy. I wish I could find the rapture and jubilation that so many others do with this title, I couldn't even be bothered to finish it properly.
