Umbrella Chronicles >>> Any Other "Survival Horror"

I'd also like to add that this game is fucking awesome, and that the final fall of Umbrella levels are hard as hell in uh, hard.

I think you've completely and utterly missed the plot about Resident Evil, and in fact third person horror titles in all. Your appraisal of Umbrella Chronicles, while encouraging for a game that so many people feared would turn out for the worst, reads like some kind of hyperactive FPS gamer's dismissal of every other type of game up to this point, especially when the one and only major evidence to back up your thoughts is that it's "quick".

Saying that they "got it right" with this game is just plain ignorant and I refuse to administer to your opinions from this point on, and don't think your bullish attitude will change it either.

I guess it's "better" than other survival horror games in the same way it's 'worse' than so many other lightgun games.

Which is to say, it sucks.

Lazerz r awesome guyz rite? matrix is mah fav movie and i liek UC becauze it has the lazerz too.

best game evah!

Interesting point of view. I do like how the OP phrased his opinion :lol

Res Evil is an okay franchise imo, with ups and downs. Some of the games are great but some are rubbish, and none of them have particularly fluid controls, but the main reason I play them is they can have great atmosphere and satisfying combat.

I am looking forward to REUC, though with some trepidation, but this thread has made me take more interest in the game.

pretty much.

i think the game is great, but... yeah. can't agree with the op remotely.

Also, this thread is just nuts. Started off ever-so-wrongly and shows no sign of betterment ever since.
Gotta agree with Bildi on that one though.

Another play session! Rox! Remember, kids: if it's not Umbrella Chronicles and purports to be a survival horror game, then it probably sucks®!

Capcom should expand on this series rather than wasting time with trash like Resident Evil 5. This game feels a lot more like the Capcom of old, who made games that were fun just for the sake of being fun, not worrying about the other little petty details.

Okay, now you're not even remotely discussing this in a civilized manner, you're just spouting nonsense and contradictory points.

The thing to remember is not that he likes Umbrella Chronicles is that the guy manages to hate on RE4 and Mario Galaxy.

yeah. i hate the modern Capcom that makes games like Zack and Wiki, Okami and Dead Rising!

It's a modern lightgun game.
fixed. old school light guns just don't work today. Ask anyone with an HDTV or RPTV. This is the light gun update to bring it in line with modern technology.

Yes, it is true that if you hate the Survival Horror genre like the OP does, you will think a light gun game is better.

Wanting Survival Horror games to be more "quick" is equivalent to changing to a new genre!

As a Resident Evil fan I am enjoying Umbrella Chronicles, but no I don't agree that non-stop action makes survival horror "better." The slow pacing and lack of ammo is part of the genre.

The first-person view beats the shit out of any of that bulljiving "over the shoulder" crap Resident Evil 4 tried to pull. Game plays and feels better in first-person. Dizzied Japanese people be damned.

RE4 didn't try to pull anything. RE4 accomplished everything it wanted to do.

What did it want to do? It wanted to be a flawless game with nerve-wracking action, incredible tension, and a great developmental aspect... and it did that.

You fail because you think you can crap on one of the best multiplatform games ever with a goddamn Wii game.

Any bets on whether or not Loosus will make a similar topic about Link's Crossbow Training, citing it as "the game Nintendo have been trying to make for the last 10 years"?

Eh, Crossbow Training is actually kinda disappointing. It's better than Twilight Princess of course, but it's kinda a drag compared to Umbrella Chronicles.

Clever troll is clever. However, if you are even remotely serious (which would be very surprising), then you must seriously have the shortest attention span ever.

Lethal Enforcers 2 >> Silent Hill 2 >> Resident Evil 4

You could have started the thread that way, and it still would be just as stupid.

I really like this game, but it's no RE4. It may be *better* to me than some of the others, in the sense that I find it more pleasurable to play, but it really is apples to oranges though.

I don't see it that way, honestly. To me, the games are similar enough that they can be compared, especially to Resident Evil 4, since that was the first one that took the series in a slightly different (and better) direction.

Umbrella Chronicles is just much more fun. Rather than being held back by the traditional shackles of the series, Capcom ripped all that crap out to make a fun game.

I rate this troll a 3/5.

From my experience RE:UC is a bad lightgun game. Problem being it's not very accurate and having to shot to the head of the characters.

I mean, lightgun games shoul bonus you when you hit the head of an enemy, never punish you for shooting him in any other part. Shooting to the chest of enemies is like doing nothing.

Besides the game is quite slow. Ghost Squad beats the crap out of it. That said, the Atmosphere is good.

Now everyone can see you're a troll. You will not be missed nor remembered.

I find the fact that people tout RE4 as proof otherwise more instulting than the thread title.

It's not Survival Horror, people!

Also, OP is retarded, more at eleven.

After hating on Super Mario Galaxy and praising Donkey Kong Barrel Blast and now this, it really looks like loosus is tag hunting. John Dunbar, watch your back.

Ok...It is even better than Ghost Squad Wii.

i have both games, GS has more fast action, RE:UC is very similar to old RE games than RE4.
It's just a different way to play the game or, simply, you don't have to consider RE:UC as a typical gun shooting game.

the fuck? i'll take one re4 over a hundred re:uc type games any day :p

Agreed. RE4 was gaming nirvana. I haven't played Umbrella Chronicles yet, but I can't imagine a quasi lightgun game being better than RE4 in anyway, shape or form.

I finished RE4 (and even RE4:Wii), while I stop playing RE:UC after I was killed again and again by the first boss (giant scorpion ??). So, I have to disagree with you about RE:UC > RE4. You might be right about RE:UC >>> RE0-3, but I am not qualified to comment on that (since I didn't play RE0-RE3).

Ehh the Scorpion isnt really that hard (or are most of the first few bosses) you just have to get the pattern down and you're set. Oh and of course keep some of your stronger weapons ready for a boss battle.

And yeah RE:UC is pretty fun, both in SP and co-op (has some nice atmospheric music in some of the missions as well), but better than RE4? Ehh...not so much.

I quite like Umbrella Chronicles. I think it is a breath of fresh air for the Resident Evil series. I never played the Gun Survivor games though, so maybe that is why it is fresh to me. It is one of my favorite Wii games, despite being overly difficult in the beginning. Once you start getting the hang of the gameplay and getting weapon upgrades though, the game becomes more fun.

I think another reason why this game is really clicking for me is because it does bring back fond memories of the older games in the series by rehashing the stories in a compacted manner.

No it isn't in the league of RE4 (not many games are), but I would say I am enjoying it just as much as any Resident Evil game I have played.
