It's my favorite in the series.
When Uncharted 2 came out, I remember reading people saying that they enjoyed U1 way more. I couldn't believe it, but yeah I know some people that think the same![]()
I loved Uncharted 1. Didn't like 2 enough to finish it, didn't touch 3 or 4.
Uncharted one gets flak for bullet sponge enemies but on the whole I think it's a fantastic TPS/Adventure game. And this was coming off playing Gears 1 and 2. I didn't get a PS3 until well after release.
Looked great at the time (I was really impressed by the animations and foliage) but the firefights were a pain in the ass and the Sixaxis shit sucked.
It's actually very overrated.
Still flabbergasted at the amount of praise that game managed to get at release. Other than the visuals, there's really nothing redeeming about the game. The shooting is bad, the pacing is dreadful, the few unique scripted sequences are poorly constructed, the story and characters and bland hogwash, etc.
I disagree, even in hindsight I don't think Uncharted 1 was a good game. The combat was exceptionally bad. 2 was such a huge improvement over the first in nearly every aspect. Story, gameplay, pacing, set pieces.
It was highly regarded when it came out. Uncharted 2 was so good it seems like people started dumping on the first game in hindsight.

I guess I could've just quoted you and said "this is me," lol.I loved Uncharted 1. Didn't like 2 enough to finish it, didn't touch 3 or 4.

Skip 3 if you want but you are doing yourself a disservice by not playing UC4. An absolute phenomenal end to the characters introduced in UC1.
Yup.It was an average game at the time elevated only by its excellent voice acting and dialogue
The only reason it was remembered fondly was because of how pathetic the PS3 library was
U1 could be great if the enemies weren't goddamn bullet sponges. I once shot a guy SEVEN TIMES without him dying. C'mon, ND.
I agree with this. It's my favorite in the series. Everything became way too bullet-spongie after that.
Though word of mouth also did wonders. It sold like 7 million copies and was the consensus Sony first-party break out hit. critically, it got an 88 on metacritic. kinda hard to argue that's underrated. you just don't hear as many people talk about it because UC2 was a monster.
That's weird because it felt like the first game was the only one that wasn't like that.U1 could be great if the enemies weren't goddamn bullet sponges. I once shot a guy SEVEN TIMES without him dying. C'mon, ND.
I'm playing the games for the first time, on PS4 of course, and I had always heard that 1 was bad compared to the others. I beat it the other night and thought it was amazing, so I figure I'm in for a treat with the rest!
I understand they probably fixed some stuff up with the Collection, like there's no motion control stuff which everyone seems to mention hating, so I think I experienced it the best way possible. I'm not feeling the story of 2 so far, but I'm only on chapter 4. Hopefully it picks up.
