They still gave Gears a higher score :-/. Hype deflating.
Why does it even fucking matter?

Oh that's why i don't frequent review threads anymore. lol

If you get the chance, I highly recommend you check out Gears 3. Like you I wasn't blown away by 1 but Epic really stepped up their game this time (in terms of pacing, level design, weapon variety...).

But yeah, like others have said, I don't think comparing scores from a same outlet is very meaningful.

Yeah, I would really like to...unfortunately, I wont be getting a 360 because I cant justify more than one console. I played the original on pc, but there is zero chance that the two sequels will head that way for the time being. Still, its the game for 360 that I wish to play the most

I think for me what it will come down to is which game has the better 3rd act, UC2 or UC3. Now, UC2 had a really good 3rd act overall but the encounter with the villain and the villain itself was terrible. Also didn't think UC2 had a terribly good story either. It was just all over the place and could never find a good, strong focus. First game had a much better story. So if UC3 has a better story and a more satisfying climax, that will probably leave a better impression on me than UC2 did.

You must be 12, you have to be 12 ....

Well, if the UC2 review was by the same person (because they gave it 100/100), then you'd have something to think about.

Otherwise, whatever score came from the guy who thinks the game is GOTG, you should be fine with. Maybe he just doesn't like giving hyperbolic scores.

You know what my favorite part of Uncharted 2 was? The actual game, not the hype storm or the reviews.
Bravo

Gears is the best 3rd person shooter ever. Not sure how that's deflating.
He obviously doesn't think so, as he said in an earlier post.

^this.
learn to enjoy games for what they are and play the games that interest you, not according to a score some moron around the world gave it.

Did I say that? I now have serious doubts that the game is better than Uncharted 2. I'm still getting it day 1, but I'm having to adjust my enthusiasm. The rollercoaster ride of Uncharted 2 reviews with the constant 10/10, 100/100, and fucking 21/20s was quite exhilarating. We won't be doing that again.
So what? It is extremely hard for Uncharted 3 to make the same impact as Uncharted 2. That goes for many games out there. They have said that the game is fun, so why are you worried about scores? It's going to score lower on Metacritic just like LBP2, even though it was an improvement over the first game.

Games normally score between 1 to 10. With 1 being a crap game and 10 being an excellent game.

With Uncharted 3, the scaling goes from 9 to 10. 9 being a crap game and totally disappointing, and 10 being a good game.

Sad but true :)

It was. And going by a recent tweet he said that the game is even better than U2, which makes it kinda...weird.

Maybe he just doesn't like giving hyperbolic scores.

I think he learned his lesson after recieving a shitstorm for giving Assassin's Creed a 10 (or a 9.9).
lol.gif
But like someone already mentioned, he's still a decent writer.

Its all good, any details from the review?

I don't understand in what galaxy AC could get a 10... it was a very impressive game, but it had a number of glaring flaws

It's pretty much one of (if not) the most disappointing game(s) of this generation. It was just average.

The design process of Uncharted 3 is fascinating...it's especially surprising to me that Hennig said that the story is the most flexible part of their design process, constantly fine-tuning the script and story to cooperate with what feels/plays good about the game, and not vice versa.

Yeah I found that revelation very interesting as well. Between that and the seemingly 'unstructured' way they work it seems like Naughty Dog is focused less on process, and more on people. That's completely counter to accepted best practice for software development... but it seems to work very well if you have the best people :) Maybe Naughty Dog recognize that making games is a much more creative process than standard software development. It seems to suggest that if the quality of their staff declines that they'll be in a tough spot, but in the meantime it's bringing us the best games on the market (IMHO).

Going back to the story flexibility, I'm immediately reminded of Mafia 2 where they took the opposite approach: brilliant story, but the gameplay was shoehorned around it and it just didn't work as well as it should have as a game.

there should be a review score inflation rate

Guys i have a theory concerning Uncharted 3's plot. I obviously haven't played the game yet but im about 95% sure this will be in the game as a major plot point. I'll put spoiler tags so read at your own risk!

Okay so in both uncharted games, at the end, there's always some form of monsters. In Uncharted 1, it was spanish zombies. In Uncharted 2, it was those blue guardians.

I've noticed that in the new Uncharted 3 trailers, the way the story is going is familiar. Like i seen it somewhere before.

Then it hit me. The story in the trailer was giving me The Mummy and more than anything The Mummy Returns vibe! Sand, Desert, Horseback riding, crazy chase, arabic friend in a tunic mentioning how you must not disturb the place.

I think Uncharted 3 is going to feature mummy's at the end

Can I hate you if that happens ? I hated those parts in both games, I mean I can see why it was necessary but ...

Wasn't this one of the leading theories of the past year?

People who even thought for a second that U3 was going to score as high as U2 were deluding themselves from day 1. It's called "impact," people.

going by information that has been leaked thus far I'm betting at the supernatural theme of uncharted 3 is drake having to face his greatest fears

I think it's 90% confirmed that we'll get killer clowns survival mode after you beat the sp campaign. there's a leak about it, and in gamespot ND interview, when asked about zombie mode like CoD, Arne from ND said that it's not zombies, but they do have something cool.

After the little disappointment with Arkham City I think Uncharted 3 will be my GOTY 2011. I bought Uncharted 2 today (again),...yeah....I sold it...hit me...hit me! :D

btw: Uncharted 3 with online-pass?

But honestly i think its inevitable.
If its not mummies, it'll be some other monster in the sand.

I like guessing!!

I think it's going to be the Egyptian Jackal guards you see in tombs and shit or the Mongolian Sandworm or even something similar to the Sphinx.

UC3 is supposed to have more platforming and puzzles and less shooting, right? Playing through UC1 for the first time now, and the shooting is quite frankly boring trash. Otherwise great game so far (pretty much just arrived on the island). Really liked the South America part where the game was about platforming and the occasional light puzzle, with little to no shooting parts.

Where did they say this? Game is a shooter, would be a bit weird if there is less shooting than there is already.

I seem to remember some quote about UC3 having a bit more platforming and puzzles, and scaling back on the shooting.

Could obviously just be wishful thinking on my part, but eh.
