Uncharted 4: A Thief's End Gameplay (E3 2015)

Elena looks great, Sully looks uh...strange. I'd say that if the screenshots are actual in game, it'll probably be the best models I've seen so far. Just as good as the Order which was pretty impressive.

DAMN

I hope Chloe is in, but I'm not sure that I'm ready to experience dat ass.

Style > substance.

Indiana Jones is great, its a fun hang on to the edge of your seat entertainment ride, but its hardly the be all and end all of cinema greatness; thats hiw I feel about Uncharted as I said, looks and sounds amazing and the gameplay has a wealth of spectacle and awe about it but that is ultimately keeping the series from being average. If you took out the awesome set pieces, visuals and general 'grand adventure' presentation and asked the game to stand up on its shooting and platform mechanics alone, it would struggle to even hit mediocre as far as outright gameplay is concerned.

We had this thread and it was stupid then.

Uncharted's traversal gunplay and maneuverability are some of the best in the industry. You don't have to like it but give it some respect.

You don't just take elements from a game away to judge it or make it comparable to your favorite titles. Those scenarios aren't just fluff here. They're fully playable and affect gameplay. The train's motion, the fire, the boat's sway etc. Top class stuff.

I recognise them because they still have the right voice actors, and there's only one character in Uncharted with grey hair and a moustache so it must be Sully, but if you'd told me that shot of U4 Sully was from a completely unrelated game I would have believed you. There's just nothing Sully-like about his facial features, same with Elena.

The thing with most Uncharted character model comparisons is that Naughty Dog constantly tweaks their character models as their games near completion, and the vast majority of pictures on GIS are from trailers, so you never really see pictures comparing their final character models from the released games. I'm hoping they'll do the same for Elena and Sully this time. You can see they've already tweaked Nate a little around the eyes since the last round of Uncharted 4 trailers:

Idk man, the facial features still look pretty similar, just with a lot more detail. Look at Sully's eyes for example, they're the same shape and tilt they were before. The only big difference is the hair (which was also really different between 2 & 3) and his nose looks like it's been tweaked.

Also, I dunno it's just not that big of an issue to me. They look like the characters to me, and I expect and enjoy seeing the tweaks they make to fit the creative process and a whole new generation of hardware.

Hi tech diagram incoming... For the first road section, where the armoured vehicle is going down the main road, and Sully is ducking down side streets, it could be something like this

Imagine the black line is the main road that the truck drives down, and the red and blue lines are side roads cross crossing the main road. They'll almost certainly be controlled to give the impression of freedom while still moving you towards the goal. And when you're going at speed being chased, you don't have time to stop and have a drive around to look for dead ends.
It's not quite like that. There's no 'n' pre-defined routes. It's more like a grid with one entry and one exit point, but inside of the grid, you're free to take any turn wherever there's the next opening after the previous turn you took.

Your spectacle theory would not explain why the MPs were usually so well-received.

About the surprised look:

If this encounter plays about the same everytime (Drake jumped from behind, Drake cannot shake him off, other guy starts hitting, Sully comes to help..), it'd be still awesome. But if that guy getting surprised from Sully is through AI programming, this is God tier.

For shoot-out gif:
lol check out the guy glitching in the bottom right corner.
That doesn't seem like a glitch, but attention to detail. Apparently we are not ready for such attention to detail in our vidya games.

even after watching the gameplay and looking at the screens for hours i still cant believe what ND have already done with the PS4. The game looks amazing and all the detail. It looks better than i expected right now.

I think Drake getting jumped from behind by that guy is dynamic, because he stood in the open for a bit and wasn't jumped immediately from behind when entering the opening. So Sully helping out is probably dynamic too :)

I just watched it again and noted the fantastic audio in the opening gun fight. The guns sound awesome as usual. I also love the way the crowd scatters so realistically when the guns start blazing. Also when Nate is making his way through the crowd in the beginning the people have actual presence and don't just float out of his path like in a lot of games. They all have different reactions too. Such attention to detail...

Im digging the new character models..Just seems more natural that they all have aged. Sully is such a loyal friend, dude is fucking old as hell now and still kicking ass with Nate!

This game's details are straight up amazing.

The gunplay sections are just remarkable. This looks like it will be one of the most satisfying gameplay experiences of all time.

The graphics are really great for a console game.

Tech wise, I don't see any deficiencies compared to PC games. PC gamers can enjoy 60fps, gazillion x AF, 4K, but "for a console game" term is redundant for this game.

I hope they at least aim for 60fps in MP.

I think they may just do that. I'm hopeful too.

If it's indeed dynamic, that's crazy. From the surprised look on the bad guy, to Sully's decision to take him to where he can push against, then using an object to take him out.

Looks like 5 or 6, and like uc3, 3 punches will take down an enemy. Probably a fair guess that there will be stronger enemies in later levels who have suits of armor and are stronger, akin to uc3.

Nathan's fists stronger than bullets confirmed.
Hopefully this is the most extent of armoured enemies and these took 4-5 shots. Although the player mostly went for body shots, so if they can go down in one headshot then it won't stick out as much.

I'm speechless ! Uncharted 4 looks not only good but fucking incredible, such attention to detail, gunplay looks amazing, how everything reacts around you is crazy good, feels more open while keeping the gameplay tight and focused...

Incredible demo and what a way to close the conference yesterday !!! Just wow !

This game can't come soon enough !

There's some cool tech on display there. I loved the first 3 games but feel like I don't need any more Uncharted. I'll still keep an eye on this to see what ND does with this game.

Blown away by how fucking huge the environment was and all the destructability and physics.
truly a step above everything else.
not to go of topic but the comparison with tomb raider is obvious.
TR, even though beeing closer to release, had a pretty underwhelming showing compared to this.

What do people expect? You're comparing a Honda to a McLaren Mercedes. They're not even in the same league.

Where did that Elena screenshot come from? She looks amazing graphically but she looks like she got beautified-generified again. Sigh.

Does anyone know what build of the game this is?

Because I cant even imagine what this is going to look like after 7 months.

And that rotating globe scene is just incredible, no need for that level of detail but it's there. I'm literally in awe.

I fully subscribe to the 'naughty gods' philosophy - they're amazing - but I sure hope this game, namely the combat, is better than U3. I never did finish that game. =/

Uncharted 3 is more melee , my personal method , spray from hip , melee the enemy by swinging my AK-74 in his face.

Drake...marry me.

I'm a straight guy btw..

but on a serious note. This is the best thing ever. The weapons and gunplay felt so visceral and real. Its really hard to explain but it feels more grounded in reality compared to the previous uncharted games and dear lord I love the new direction. I'm in love.

Holy fuck, those direct-feed screenshots are insane.

The demo was fan-fucking-tastic, hope we get a direct-feed reveal of the rest of it today too.

That CHEST HAIR.

The model looks great because they have gone to great lengths to make her have human-looking skin with creases and imperfections.

That looks a million times better than the Square Enix porcelain dolls.

Hell, she looks more human than most celebrities on the cover of fashion magazines.....

I just remember enemies taking way too many shots to down, and not reacting to my shots in general.

I think I quit the game during the derelict ship level, where wave after wave of enemies bored me.
