Uncharted 4 First Week Sales Surpass 2.7 Million (sell-through physical + digital)

I wonder if the game is actually profitable, I mean it probally cost 200+ million and assuming they get half the MSRP it is only 81 million so far.

GTA5 was 200 mill. Uncharted 4 is probably no where near that. It is more expensive then the other Uncharted games but not 200 mill.

It's only the first week. And this thing sells consoles like crazy probably.

Btw. what's up with your tag, that shit just took up half my monitor lol

thanks. going by this graph, the Q2s aren't at the top of the spikes, but they're not at the very bottom either. that's Q1 if I glanced at that correctly

I never said May was the slowest month. I said it was a slow month.

And historically, it is. It's very, very rare for a game to do as well as Uncharted 4 during May. Off the top of my head, I can think of Red Dead Redemption and The Witcher III: Wild Hunt.

not where i'm from. it's late spring.things change, man.

I'm talking about in business scheduling including retail for gaming. May is considered a summer month because a large number of schools and colleges are getting out for summer break. Due to that, people are not actually buying more games during this period and that puts pressure on retailers to get sales up to negate this. E3 usually provides a small bump, but it's slow sales all the way until September.

? if it is in between the fastest and slowest months then why is it irrational to just consider it typical instead of slow?

I mean, you can consider it whatever you want. The data shows otherwise though. It's historically been a slow month for games at retail.

Also, looking at the earlier graph a bit more closely, it's measuring performance in EA's fiscal years. Q1 covers the month of May.

EAs Q1 covers April, May and June - like a lot of companies

that must be what the "fiscal" year means I guess. coz i would say that's Q2 to the public.

I see. Well, in the case of a game like uncharted 4, which i heard also had the "biggest playstation marketing" or whatever, i'm not sure if it mattered that much that it released at a period that is considered slow by the producers.

based on the data i was shown, it's slow, but not nearly as slow as other months.

I guess I'm not sure what you're arguing, you don't think releasing in proven slow months have any impact compared to the usual holiday months?

Based on that graph, which is measuring fiscal quarters...that's not really accurate.
actually yeah, if Q1 on that graph is supposed to mean actual Q2, then you're right.

eh, not necessarily, if the IP is huge (which uncharted is). it should sell huge regardless. maybe it would've sold even greater in Q4 but there would likely have been much more competition too.

I think you're talking about Wynnebeck

That's the one! I remember lurking and seeing this guy was always trolling until they finally got him. Don't be like that guy lol. In any case, does anyone think we'll hear anything from ND at E3 or will they still be on extended vacation?

Great news for Naughty Dog but the game is extremely good, so it deserves to sell very well. Looking forward to whatever comes next from them, hopefully the great storytelling will continue to grow with their next game.

And this is why this time is year is considered slow. If your IP isn't huge, it's a risk to launch it in May.

In some cases, it might be a bigger risk to release it in say, November...but it's still risky right now, regardless.
