Uncharted 4: Nathan's theme is actually pretty awesome

The soundtrack in U4 it's the best of the series. It has all that "this is it, kid" feel that the supposedly final chapter of a saga should have. It feels like you're dreaming, like you're lost and don't know where to go. Up until now, it's so perfect and majestic to the general fell and the direction of the story. Disclaimer: I haven't finished the game, so I don't know how it ends, I'm on chapter 15 I think.

I enjoyed it but wish it didn't have to come at the expense of the classic theme, which is superior in my mind.

I wish it had the middle part of Nate's theme. It just feels like it's missing something.
Agree here as well.

I enjoyed the different take on the theme, yes.

HOWEVER!

After beating the game once, I was expecting the main menu and the music to change to the traditional Nate's Theme.
Shocked me too. Wish they would have used the traditional theme for the final credits and then have it play on the menu.

I love the new take on it. Was surprised to hear some people complain that it wasn't in the game when there are a good handful of takes on the theme within.

Definitely was bummed to not hear it blasting on the main menu as I booted up the game though.

Yeah, the new version is fantastic. But with this being the potentially last game I wish they would have found a way to work in both. There were still some spots where the original could have been used without feeling out of place.

Like you said it was somewhat of a bummer not hearing it in the main menu one last time.

Yeah, absolutely. I mean...I probably would've cried if the original theme was used in the ending credits.

I prefer the traditional Nate's themes of the past, but damn if I don't get chills at 1:13 every time. Last 20 seconds of Brother's Keeper is the most amazing part of the game's soundtrack though.

It reminds me of Assassin's Creed III's menu theme to be honest.

Without Nate's theme proper, it's like watching the final season of Game of Thrones without the intro music, or Indiana Jones without the fanfare. Blasphemy.

But what is there isn't bad, I'll admit. It's just missing that crucial component.

I feel like the "theme" of uncharted 4 is "a normal life".

That moment in chapter 17 is incredible when the song plays.

Honestly I think this soundtrack is the best of the 4. When "cut to the chase" plays during combat it really amps you up. There seems to be a high density of solid tracks here.

The only real standout tracks from the previous games to me are Nates theme, reunion and the rubal khali

It's fine, but it doesn't get me excited nearly as much as the old Nate's Theme.

I'll just re-post what I said in the OT. Listening to the OST on it's own a few more times has only reconfirmed what I felt when I typed this up:

Y'know something, I don't think the soundtrack is bad, in fact there are quite a few good tracks on it (this makes me want to rope swing in real life), but the main menu is like anti-hype. Turning on UC2 for singleplayer sessions and hearing Nate's Theme is still so good. Or loading up a multiplayer match back then while Reunion cued in the background relaxing the hell out of me before I shot everyone in the face. Or The City's Secret. Or Marco Polo. The UC4 menu doesn't get me going like these did. Jackson's solid with ambience and action music, but it's really missing that exotic, adventurous longing that Edmonson had in his work.

EDIT: Or something like this forgotten gem god tier synth + woodwind/flute/whatever cue I heard during my Uncharted 1 Remaster playthrough

It's amazing in the opening credits.

It's way less amazing during the end credits and doesn't fit at all anymore. Should have used the more upbeat version for that.

I feel like I'm the only person who really likes that there's no main menu music.

I do love the whole soundtrack though. Its honestly my favorite from the series.

And look at that vinyl cover!

But this is the game that proves we don't really need it.

And yes, this version of Nate's Theme is amazing. Love how they combined it with the main motif for "A Thief's End".

You're gonna need it if you want to see the game with even more splendid visuals. I'm sure that makes it worth it.

I thought the intro track to the game with the opening credits was freaking amazing. The track really complimented the opening credits well. Very cinematic and really set the tone for great things to come for the rest of the game. "A Thief's End" is nostalgic, epic, and a tad mysterious all at the same time.

Something else that bothered me, when the naughty dog name comes up its just on a lame black screen

In uncharted 1, you had this chart that would be lit uncovering the logo and there would be this chime

In uncharted 2, the snow would blow away and reveal the logo

In uncharted 3, it's got this cool digitized pixel effect blowing apart the logo

In uncharted 4 you get nothing, like they try to pull a last of us, like they're trying to be super serious and mature

Now I mean you could argue the logo reveal is in the opening cinematic but still, it just feels off

I like it but it really bugs me how it always stops short of doing whole parts of the theme.

What's the track that plays during the ship graveyard battle? That was pretty epic.

UC4's soundtrack seems to be mixed much lower than in previous games. That definitely doesn't help

60fps yo. I bet we get a patch like that for this game.

There are other game that look like they're internally screaming for a PS4K though.
*cough*FFXV*cough*

It's okay for what it is, but I can't call it Nate's theme 4.0 because it isn't. I think it's called A Thief's End, and aside from the leitmotif of Nate it has nothing in common with the other 3. Even then Jackman doesn't use the leitmotif for Nate, he uses it in general for the Drake brothers turning it into more of a motif (theme). The best use of it period is the last 25 seconds of Brother's Keeper and I don't think that is actually heard in game.

For those who were searching, I found a lot of unreleased music on this channel
So good
The End and Two Brothers are sooo good.

Why don't these tracks make it to the official release, I'll never know.

Love the whole soundtrack, especially the new take on Nate's theme. Fits the feel of the game very well.

I agree that the original theme should have appeared at some point though, especially since this is the farewell to the series. In a perfect world I would have included it (ending spoilers ahead!)
in the very final shot of the game. When Elena places the photo of her, Nate and Sully back in the journal, when the camera is panning across the pages instead of the strings coming in and building up to the new version of Nate's theme the familiar drums from the beginning of the old version should have faded in, with the full theme kicking in when the Naughty Dog logo pops up.

They ruined the new theme in the beta. The new somber parts were played a lot in the beta (every time you lose I think), and I remember getting fed up with it in a couple of hours thinking "hopefully I never have to listen to this in the main game". Turns out it's all over the main theme.

Wow, that's pretty cool.

I don't think UC 4 has the best theme (it's still awesome though) but it definitely has the best intro.

And the intro wouldn't work with the old theme. It fits perfectly.
