Uncharted 5 Premise (U4 ending Spoiler inside)

They leave open the possibility of future games featuring Sam as the main character, but yeah.. not every successful franchise has to live on forever. This game ended the series beautifully. Let ND move on.

I loved the ending of the game and even though I'll miss all these characters, I feel like it's time to move on. I'm sure Naughty Dog will have another excellent franchise to create and expand upon.

So what like how the Sands of Time trilogy came full circle? ND is good but they aren't that good. I honestly don't think they thought about that. Using his life as a backdrop for bedtime stories for Cassie would've been really cool.

i feel like that's what they did. it's subtle but it's there. obviously not bedtime stories but definitely stories. Drake and Elena had kept that stuff secret from cassie for several years, the next step in that story is for Drake to tell her all about his adventures.

I don't necessarily want a UC5, but I really do want a Cassie-based game now. She's such a likable character, just in the short amount of time she's in UC4. Give me the exploration and stealth along with crafting and skills from TLOU/ROTTR. It could be like a Young Indiana Jones thing.

Imagine an Uncharted game where you play as Sir Francis Drake. You create the paths that Nathan follows in the future. Eventually the series would lead to Francis Drakes death and bring the entire series full circle with Nathan and Sully finding his body in UC1.

Whether it has a fail state or there is a purpose is insignificant, is it quality gameplay is the question. The platforming in this game is there just to be busy work. There maybe two times where they actually chain jumps to the point where I would actually call it as a section where timing and direction is actually needed, good platforming.

As for the exploration, if the treasures were well hidden, like behind optional puzzles like the TR games do it then yeah it's fine. But they are still just random shit hiding in a corner with no thought put into them and no real gameplay motivation outside run around every inch of the level. Make gathering them interesting that should be the goal.

The best part of these games are by a mile the combat. It's exceptional. Everything else is average at best. U2 is a masterpiece because the balance is heavily in favor of the action, the best parts. Mess with that balance and you get a game with lots of boring sections.

Fair points there, I agree that as far as platforming goes its "busy work" although I think given the type of platforming it would be very hard to make it skill reliant, I mean you're hanging & jumping from or to irregular objects - unlike classic 3D platformers, where you are jumping from "step" to "step"..... to use an example, the platforming in Mario 64, banjoo kazooie etc. are on a different scale compared to the type of platforming the uncharted uses.... one would say its to the detriment of UC but I think its an unavoidable flaw that ND has to deal with, the type of "platforming" UC uses can find parallels with Assassins creed.

In regards to the exploration aspect, I do agree that placement could have been much more creative... but its always been executed like this since UC1 has it not?

I do agree that the combat was sublime, especially the ability to hide and swing, all in all, I enjoyed the overall package

There will not be an Uncharted 5. That ending was perfect. At least we are getting single player dlc
explaining Nadine possibly or maybe going off Cassie. No idea, just speculation

A big problem with the Uncharted platforming is that they don't want people to fail, and as a result it ends up feeling too automated and inconsequential.

They could have easily created scenarios that require decent timing or actually using momentum with the rope or while sliding but they just never did. The pick also had huge potential but it was introduced too late and didn't get utilized properly.

A sequel doesn't make sense, but I agree with OP that Cassie getting in trouble while treasure hunting is pretty much the only way it would work. So essentially just like the Tomb Raider reboot and I don't really want that.

Sure there will be.

I also wonder if people saying that the franchise should rest for some 5 years know how long it takes to make a game these days. 5 years isn't rest, it's a dev cycle starting today basically.

actually, I wouldn't mind if they made a kid-nate all platformer (no shooting) adventure and add a "princess bride"-like story telling where daddy nate tells cassie his life story to keep nolan north's voice in the game.

The issue I'd have with a prequel starring Nathan is that I would really miss Elena. Her and Nathans chemistry is so great, and I was incredibly relieved when Elena joined Nathan on his last (illegal) adventure.

That sounds...extremely generic and boring.

How many time would it be "one last time". This would add litteraly nothing to the overall story.

There's no sense of trying to continue this franchise apart from pure cash grab as the story would go nowhere. This constant sequelitis from fans is getting annoying as it's more about quantity than quality

I'd rather have ND bloom into something new. I think they've proven themselves enough that they don't need to continue uncharted infinitely for people to follow them

Fast and furious has been doing one last ride for a while now :p

*snip*.

Hmmmmm, interesting food for thought. I would counter by saying the want from designers to progress the story and the type of platforming implemented in UC would make it quiet the hurdle to overcome

Alright, so i think this particular discussion is derailing the thread so we should take it to the Official thread and continue there...or PM me

I sincerely hope that Uncharted 4 is the last one - ever.

It ended perfectly and left no loose ends. It was a fitting, beautiful send-off for the series. Anything made after this game, be it a sequel, side-story or otherwise, would just be milking the franchise and Naughty Dog is far too good for that.

I would let the franchise rest for a few years and maybe bring out something in the same universe but not a direct sequel for the PS5 release.

I still have hope for a game following Sully's exploits in the swinging 60's and fighting dirty commies.

Until then put that awesome engine to work with some new fun IP's.

A series starring a young Sully would be fantastic. He has some great sounding stories from his past that would be fun to see. He's even mentioned how he's met a young and ambitious Alcazar.

I feel they could let the franchise go on forever. As good at it is I feel 4 didn't evolve the series much gameplay wise. There is a lot more that can be done with that formula.

Maybe they could make it a one per generation franchise like mariokart. I would love to see another uncharted game
on ps5.

If Sony plans on carrying the Uncharted games... i hope they call it something else. Uncharted is Nate. call it something else with new characters... but i need the tomb raiding, pirate treasure finding adventure games like this...

If i could change one thing (maybe 2) is that i would make the levels have secret areas or unlockable areas that require a little bit more thinking to solve a puzzle to unlock...

I hope they don't release another Uncharted game. UC4 was a fitting end and I think ND is well known enough as a brand that they don't need to milk existing IP's.

That plot is The Lion King sequel all over again and I am not sure if I would like to play a game like the described in the OP.

We don't need an another one but Cassie is a likable character, Sony need to stay away from Uncharted for a while though, don't do what MS is doing with milking their best IP and butchering them, the story should end here for its own sake...

Replayed the epilogue. It's very subtle and more implied at the very, very end, but not quite as full circle as Sands of Time. I guess to see it you'd need that mindset of looking for it. I'm still not sure it works.

I'm fine with another Uncharted game but it needs to:

A. Come out a while from now.
B. Not have Nathan Drake in it. His story is finished. He should really only be referenced if it were to be continued with either Sam or Cassie.

Don't read any further if you haven't completed Uncharted 4.

With the success of Uncharted 4 and the way they ended the series. I feel like there is no way Sony doesn't make U5. Its inevitable.

Their daughter goes out for an adventure of her own, or tags along with Sam for some small project. Next thing you know, they in a big trouble, and Drake and Elena have no choice but to go and help her out. More like "One last time". Sam, Sully are all onboard.

What do you guys think?

I didn't play UC4(and i don't plan to) so i don't have a clear vision of the situation but doesn't that clearly imply that the daughter is going to be the new main character? I read somewhere that UC4 is the last one with Nathan so it would make sense.

He was speculating, that doesn't actually happen.

I know you don't really care but I'll spoiler tag what actually happens just in case
She finds a bunch of stuff that Nate and Elena have collected over the years and expresses a clear interest in it.

Well that doesn't change the result imo, Nate retires but his daughter continues, Nate will still appear but just as a secondary character or as her daughter's master teaching how to do things(tutorial character?), it would makes sense, it would help the transition to the new character.

The next Uncharted 5 should be Last of Us 2.

Aw man, I was going to say this.

It would say Uncharted 5 on the box and it would pick up right after the epilogue. They would get caught in a storm and shipwreck on a small inhabited island - that's infected by the cordyceps! Nathan and Elena would be killed instantly and Cassie would race to safety. Then the screen would go black and it would say

THE LAST OF US 2

It would be the greatest twist in videogame history!

Either that or a game with Cassie and her dog as they go through a day of wholesome adventures while getting home in time for dinner.

I want a game with angsty teenager Cassie Drake studying to become the polar opposite of what her parents were. So, like, engineering or whatever.

UC4 still had too much combat :b
I just can't seem to enjoy combat in the latest ND games. More puzzles, dammit!

I think the singleplayer DLC will be Sam & Sully.

Then if they ever decide to make a new Uncharted on the PS5, Cassie would be the protagonist.

The setup is obviously there if Sony wants to do that, but I kinda don't want it. I've loved this series, but let that story be over.

People who think Uncharted 5 should be about Cassie's adventures are the same as the people who thought the Incredibles 2 should have been about the Underminder

No, the story as is should remain closed.

Instead, I want my open world/open map treasure hunting idea.

You pick a faction and depending on your choice, there are different options at your disposal for taking missions. Stuff like informants, vehicles, weaponry, tools etc. There can be Destiny/Division-like multiplayer faction battles or you play solo (or coop) hunting down treasure and upgrading gear to reach areas you've missed, finding clues for a puzzle across the globe, upgrading your vehicle to reach a guarded fortress or trek through rough terrain etc. You are you, a member of Shoreline, or Eddy's pirates, or the fancy elite of the black market, or a two bit thief yearning for adventure and so on. You can choose to join or abandon as you wish which will create enemies and road blocks to overcome along the way.

So nothing people would want from an Uncharted proper, but something I think would be great as a game.

That, or VR adventuring as Lara Drake with no shooting.

Or VR with Nate and Elena at the Malaysia site.

I see three options.

1: Existing characters post U4. So sully and sam or a grown up lil Drake.

2: Completely new cast with returning characters being nothing more then cameos. Uncharted just becoming a brand for swash buckling adventure. Uncharted: The Next Generation.

3: Prequel starting young Sully in the 70's or 80's. More pulpy and Indiana Jones-y but you replace Nazi's and WW2 with the Cold War and Russians.

I think 2 is probably the best option for a long term franchise but my heart really wants 3

So what OP is saying he wants the next game to be a damsel in distress type of fling.

If there is a next uncharted, I can't see why there would be any reason not to place Cassie in the lead role.
