Uncharted: Drakes Fortune - GameTrailers.com Onstage Demonstration

Game reminds me of Gears of all things. Graphics look to be around that area as well, tough to really tell though with the quality of the videos. Animations don't live up to the promise of the E3 tech demos at this stage though, found them a bit disapointing. Kind of seems like Gears crossed with Tombraider.

The animations are better than 95% of games today already.

omg, I can't believe people actually complain about the animation.

The way Nathan moves smoothly, the variety of animations, and the nice little touches make it feel very natural.

Please name a game that has this level of char animation.

Who cares if another game doesn't beat this one in a numbers game. The end result (of this WIP footage) just looks off in certain ways...some of the animation is blended and played out on-screen well enough that the parts that don't match in quality stick out really annoyingly. I'm sure it's going to be fine by release.

Sry, but just look how Nathan climbs up the first ledge in the demo. You wanna tell me this is a top-notch animation? You must be kidding.

il be honest. i didnt want to say anything bad previously because i know this game is...well liked amongst the sony community but i never thought it looked that good.

till now!!! jesus ****ing christ that demonstration was incredible. hype+1000. graphics and animation look gorgeous

I think he's talking overall. Of course, you can focus on things that are still off, but generally the way this game moves and the incidental detail in that animation and movement is highly impressive. Like MightyHedgehog says, when it's less than perfect it just sticks out more now because everything else is so good.

Nathan jumping onto ledges looked...awkward (as noted)

Nathan running towards cover, ducking bullets, and then slamming against the pillar for cover were amazing, great animation.

Really looking forward to this game (now).

The debut video is 50 times better than the demo video.

I'd almost have to buy a PS3 for that alone.
Wait, what? You really think the debut video from last year looks better than this?! I can't agree with that at all. The lighting and environments shown in this latest vid are far more attractive looking and everything animates nearly as well (while being in-game).

The animation is better than 95% of the games out there...but it's still not perfect. I think it's a bit unfair to slam it for minor errors at this point. Let's wait until the end.

I mean, Gears of War (which features pretty solid animation in the final game) animated VERY poorly nearly everytime it was shown. Poor framerate and weak animation. The final results were incredible, however.

-.-

Of course there are some weird stuff. Dude the game is set to be released in 5 months...

Generally speaking, Nathan's animation is fluid and natural. There are tons of little touches and details that make it feel real.

I think he is talking about the trailer rather than gameplay...which was more impressive, but only because it showed the variety of the game

peace

Yeah and the game comes out in like 5 or 6 months. And to me it looks better if not just as good the first video released at E3.

I'm not a nitpicky guy so I'll just say it looks great and I really enjoy Tomb Raiderish style games. I only hope that there's not a constant gun battle running throughout the game. It would be good if they leaned more towards exploration and puzzle solving.

The animation will be more relevant when you're playing the game. You're going to nitpick each part when you watch the vids over and over again, but it may be like Pro Evo where you can't see the intricacies of the animation until you are controlling your players, moving them around, the sheer number of animations in use proves moving the character around in the environment will feel more "organic".

I would be willing to bet that the final game will have much more exploration than any demo or video they show. Exploration just doesn't demo as well as combat, for the most part.

The way enemies go flying upon death, no matter where you shoot them, is pretty last-gen. Otherwise, it's technically impressive, although the presentation does nothing for me. Never was a big fan of Tomb Raider.

i have to agree with the people saying that Nathan seems to float a bit. the animation is *incredible* but in it's current state he doesn't feel connected with the world as well as say the assassin in assassin's creed does.

i'm really confident that they can ground Nathan, and hopefully fix up his run animation so that his feet don't pivot so much when he's turning...

even if it doesn't get fixed, it's still going to be an awesome game imho.

it's wrong to slam the game as if this is final, of course, but pointing out area for improvement (espescially when it's in areas that other games do better) can't lead to anything bad, and it can potentially lead to something good.

Ground textures are the only thing that worry me about this game, everything else is already awesome or will probably be fixed.

How far out is this title? Do we have any idea of a release date?

This year.

totally agreed, but, the run animation is the one i'm going to see the most.

it's not a deal breaker for me, but if it feels off, it bothers me.

If anything, they need to exaggerate his run animation. It might be more realistic how it is now, but that doesn't always translate into "more enjoyable to watch."

7 more months.

I can absolutely guarantee you that Uncharted is NOT coming out a week before Christmas.

The AI is ****ing retarded...

"Gee, I'm going to start a gun fight, so let me get out in the open, so that this guy can kill me while he's behind cover."

Wow

It also doesn't impress me graphically like the other next gen games.

It think it looks great. The gunplay needs some tightening (didn't look as visceral as it should), but the player model, animations and the setting looked ace. I like the player's face when he goes into cover and peeks out of cover - very expressive.

Looks like it'll be a cool title.

that's a frigging beautiful demonstration but there's either a problem with the combat system or the guy has some pretty bad shooting skill... I mean, he even miss a more than easy headshot (I can't snapshot the moment because it gives me a black screen, damned DRM...). also, the AI seems a little dumb in certain moments...

You can't agree with anyone or anything. You see, the first trailer was WAY more polished than what we've seen so far, for obvious reasons.

The NEW trailer simply looks better to me in every way. Just as polished.

yeah the lighting and water are simply fantastic and those weren't even in the first trailer :lol

But still it needs some work, the animations aren't in place, there is some tearing but it will look great when it ships.

Uncharted looks great, and there aren't enough games out there with the adventure setting that this game is going for anymore.

The setting is such a breath of fresh air, it's always nice to play a game that doesn't take place in a run-down ghetto or a European village during WWII.

I sincerely hope that you're right about that. Although, when it's done correctly exploration elements can be shown with great dramatic flair. That's why I'm slightly concerned that the focus of the gameplay might be too console shooter-ish for me. As much as I enjoyed TR:L it still had more gunfights than I really like. This game looks to up the ante substantially.

I'll admit that I'm an FPS whore on my PC, but I don't like console shooters. I didn't even finish playing Gears yet and may just wait for the PC version. It's all about the controls and I haven't been able to adjust because a controller feels so gimped after so many years of KB/M. It's very frustrating and detracts too much from the experience.

Oh well, that's enough sniveling, so I'll just shutup now.

Wow. Really had no expectations for this game but jesus christ...this video...

and **** these screen caps y'allz been posting they don't do the video justice.

The visuals are top notch, the animation is phenomenal, the aiming system looks solid, environment interaction looks great.

This is what I'm talking about!

I'm floored by this video.

It's the sort of thing I thought was BS when this game was shown in a scripted trailer, but now...wow.

Game of the show.

Quick rundown:

Layered animation system that allows for dozens of animations to performed simultaneously.

Cell allows for calculation of 1000's of joints to procedurally generate each frame of animation.

Context aware facial animations.

Environments feature sophisticated lighting model, custom shaders, dynamic real time shadows and a complex water simulation.

Blu-ray and HDD are used in conjunction to eliminate load screens, stream level data, audio, character models, textures and animations.

Game exceeds DVD9 storage capacity.

Such utter bull by developers. Heck Harry porter wii has no load screens, and it a damn wii game.

p.s the game looks awesome by the way

It looked like he was struggling with the aiming to me.

I hope they can get some realtime reflections going on. So far if just a better version of GOW faked environments.

Beyond that the game does look like a lot of fun.

You're comparing what a Harry Potter game is doing to this?

:lol :lol, that is a completely dillusional statement. The lighting ALONE is better and more realistic in the new videos compared to the original trailer, IMO.
