Uncharted: Lost Legacy or Horizon: Zero Dawn?

Get Horizon first. It'll last longer if nothing else, so you'll probably have the cash to pick up U:tLL when you're done.

Both great though, so you can't go wrong no matter what you choose.
 
I am going to put my thoughts on each game as someone who loved both based on general aspects I believe everyone value a lot in games:

GAMEPLAY

Uncharted The Lost Legacy
It is basically Uncharted 4 2.0 in that department, which is not a con at all, since UC4 is by far the best playing Uncharted game in the series and one of the finest TPS in the market. Tight and satisfying gunplay, fun traversal (especially when mixed with combat), great level design, fantastic puzzles (by far the best in the series) and some insane setpieces. Regarding setpieces in particular, since they are a big staple in the series, I have to say the last one could very well be the best action setpiece in the entire UC franchise, which is saying A LOT considering how insanely good they are in UC2-4 especially.

Horizon Zero Dawn
Simply put, Horizon has in my opinion THE BEST combat in any western AAA until now. Especially when talking about open world and RPG games. It is incredibly satisfying, impactfull and FUN. I like to say this is a western game with a japanese design take on the gameplay. The machine design is one of the biggest aspects on making the gameplay so good. It is simply the best game on its genre when it comes to combat. By far.

STORY

Uncharted The Lost Legacy
It is your typical pult action Uncharted story, which means it is a fun and charming treasure hunter story. What really elevates it, as with all Naughty Dog games, is the character writing, building, acting and development. Chloe is the perfect Uncharted protagonist and TLL proved she can be a character as good (and maybe even better) than Drake. Nadine is also a great partner with some amazing character development and great chemistry as Chloe's duo.

Horizon Zero Dawn
Freaking legit quality science fiction. Horizon has the best story I have experienced in the last few years of my gaming life. The narrative cohesion, pacing, character plot points, writing... everything is incredible. It is the best story driven game open world I have ever played. The main quest in even better than The Witcher 3's, which is consired by a lot of people as the pinacle. John Gonzales proved he is one of the most talented writers in the industry. If you told me 1 year ago Guerrila Games would ship the game with the best story of the gen, I would laugh at your face. But they did just that. I have never been so engrossed with a narritive since The Last of Us back in 2013. Absolutely loved it.

ART DIRECTION + GRAPHICS IN GENERAL

Uncharted The Lost Legacy
There is not much too say than: it is the best looking game I have ever played. The technical aspect is impecable and the art direction is the best in the whole series. The Indian asthetic really shines on it.

Horizon Zero Dawn
Before The Lost Legacy it was my pick for best looking game ever. Now it sits at #2 but it still has the crown of best looking Open world game I have ever played. All things considered it is probably even more impressive than The Lost Legacy.

*I played both games on OG PS4. Cant even imagine how good it looks on Pro.

Soundtrack + Sound design

Uncharted The Lost Legacy
In regards to OST, it mostly reuses UC4's tracks, which is disappointing but considering the development time I guess they were on a tight schedule to produce new stuff. Sound design is top notch, best in the business caliber. Since TLOU, Naughty Dog really upped their game in regards to sound design and UC4/TLL also harvest the benefits.

Horizon Zero Dawn
Brilliant OST. The main theme is an instant classic but the sci-fi driven tracks in the game are the best parts of it imo. In fact all the environmental music in it is great. The tribal ones, the sci-fi focused ones, all great. Sound design is incredible, especially the machines'. It is actually one of the reasons on why the combat feels so good: the sound feedback is amazing.

Basically, both are amazing. You should play both.

My favorite is Horizon though.
 
Both are worth playing, but I don't hold Horizon nearly as highly as most do. Uncharted, on the other hand, is absolutely fantastic. I'd recommend that first.

Horizon's world is beautiful, but nothing about it is interesting to explore.
 
I've put a few hours into Horizon, but personally, it didn't click. Not into the characters and neither the dialog. It's pretty though. I'll give it another shot eventually.

On chapter 5 in Uncharted TLL and really digging it. Gorgeous environment and loving the puzzles. A lot more memorable than 4 so far.

And since the OP mentioned it, that's from someone who's put 110 hrs+ in BOTW.
 
You'll greatly enjoy both games, but considering your post I think Horizon might bring you a bit more enjoyment still.
 
Enjoyed Horizon more then Lost Legacy, but Lost Legacy is great as well. Maybe take a break from open world and go with Lost Legacy first since it's a much shorter game.
 
Lost Legacy is fucking great.

But Horizon Zero Dawn is my GOTY, and probably one of my favorites of the entire generation (Bloodborne and Horizon maybe). The story in Horizon is really really good, the graphics are amazing (I played it on my PS4 Pro and 50" Samsung 4K set, and it blew me away), the combat is some of the best, if not the best open world combat I've ever played.

I love breath of the wild too, but I wholeheartedly recommend Horizon over Uncharted: Lost Legacy. LL is a nice short adventure (I beat it in roughly 10 hours or less), so if you're looking for a game you can beat in a weekend, it's the one for you.

I think I sunk over 60 hours in Horizon, getting all of the collectibles, weapons, armor, completing all side quests and guild missions, etc.

You won't go wrong with either choice. I'm not helpful at all, I think.
 
Horizon was my biggest disappointment so far, this year.
I found it unbelievably boring.

It has good combat and cool dinosaurs, but i hated everything else.

If you loved Breath of the Wild especially, the transition may be very painful.

Haven't played Lost Legacy yet, but it seems like a good Uncharted entry, at least.

I respect everyone's opinion on story, which is subjective of course, but... I don't understand yours.

For me, Horizon's world was really compelling, but its story just fell flat in every single way imaginable: bland characters, forgettable subplots, lame "cliffhanger" ending... I think you need to explain yourself. Witcher 3's main story (and side quest stories, too, obviously), were superior to Horizon's in every conceivable way.
 
Really? I felt the same about Witcher 3. I love that game but the actual main quest bored me. I never cared about Ciri.

Horizon Zero Dawn firmly gripped me with its story. I love scifi so that is part of it but the entire world, the backstory to it, Rost & Aloy.. wow beautifully executed in my opinion.

W3 had a lot better sidequests and the dlc IS excellent though. In Horizon the sidequests weren't as interesting.

My personal vote. As an owner of both games and a med-high range 4K TV. Everything looks amazing in Horizon. If you've got a decent sound system too, that just takes it to a whole other level.

Not to take anything away from Uncharted TLL. Both games are top tier visually.
 
Based on your criteria, I'd go with Horizon. I didn't find the characters particularly interesting (Lost Legacy wins out there) but it has a pretty good story and good exploration. And is drop dead gorgeous.

I'm the opposite.
I mean the main quest in W3 isn't as strong as some of the side content, for sure, but i was still somewhat interested, especially since the moment to moment interactions were so fun, and the world felt so natural and alive.

In Horizon i'm having trouble NOT skipping dialogue, it being so dull, twists and turns so far have been incredibly predictable and uninteresting, too, and the world, while looking very pretty (graphics are, indeed, insane) looks lifeless and artificial (no pun intended) like a theme park, more than a real place; cities are especially bad in this sense.
To each their own i suppose.

I really don't see what people are seeing in Horizon, past the cool robot designs and the very fun combat (and the great graphics), it seems incredibly pedestrian otherwise.
And i say this, with it being one of my most anticipated games, prior to playing it.

I do have yet to finish it though.
 
BOTH.

Horizon Zero Dawn and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy are my second and third best games this generation respectively. Personally scored both a 9.5/10 and are near classics in my opinion. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy was for me what I was hoping Uncharted 4 was going to be but wasn't and got me wanting The Lost Legacy 2 with Chloe where as after Uncharted 4, I was happy the franchise was dead but not anymore. The Lost Legacy basically combines the visuals and overall gameplay of Uncharted 4, the action scenes of Uncharted 2, the melee and stealth of Uncharted 3 and being the "first" in the Lost Legacy franchise ala the original Uncharted. Perfectly paced, gorgeous looking, plays great and added a few new elements to the game. I can easily see Lost Legacy 2 within two years if they keep the team that made this one on it which they should.

As for Horizon, it has the best overall gameplay this generation. Everything is so fluid and responsive and feels so great that no matter how many robots you stealth, hack and slash or use your equipment on, it simply never ever gets old. It's simply so much fun. Story is excellent as is Aloy. The supporting characters are solid to good. Visually, the best looking game this generation. It would go to The Lost Legacy but it's linear where as Horizon is open world and thus, more impressive.

Can't go wrong either way but I would play both, starting with Uncharted: The Lost Legacy simply because it's 10-15 hour game while Horizon could easily be a 100 hour game depending on how you play each game.

Here is my problem, I personally don't care for Aloy's journey because really find her dull as character but I did like the story surrounding
Zero Dawn project
my problem is how try tell that story. Even at very beginning of the game, they will make listen audio logs after audio logs after audio logs. It became really tiring after while, to the point that I just stop caring about it.
 
I preferred Lost Legacy, but Horizon is solid too. I just get burned out on open world game design, and Horizon's dystopian YA storyline and characters didn't do anything for me. Lost Legacy's storyline doesn't break new ground but ND is still well above the competition in writing dialogue, and being a little more subtle with its character beats. Both have really good combat and look gorgeous so it's a wash there.
 
It took me a little over 60 hours to platinum Horizon, one of the best gaming experiences on PS4. Uncharted Lost Legacy is a great game but it is very short and dosen't have the gameplay depth of Horizon IMO.
 
Lost Legacy I would say is a better game, in large part because it has the advantage of being short and compact. It makes every moment count and it feels like an amazing experience from start to finish.

However Horizon may be the game I recommend to someone who has to choose between the two, since it is a way more expansive experience and is still very high quality.

Fwiw I'm a guy who by and large would take a perfectly crafted 3-minute pop song over a 20 minute prog epic, and that lens sometimes carries over to games

Yep

It didn't take me 60 hours to plat, but I still had tons of fun exploring the world and doing side quests long after I had accomplished the main bits.

Plus it's beautiful, and a new experience and universe. Uncharted may be amazing, but you're gonna buy it knowing exactly what kind of story you're going to get. Horizon...not so much. I was pleasantly surprised at the direction the story took.
 
I didn't think Horizon Zero Dawn had an interesting story, characters or world to explore. Great combat, graphics and enemy design, some decent side quests and the main story has its moments
when you aren't stood watching holograms of the way more interesting backstory
unlike the rubbish world where most of the interesting stuff is already on your map (at least it is once you override a Tallneck it's been a while) and there's fairly little in the way of actual hands-off exploration to be had.

8/10 probably won't play again.

Haven't played TLL as I played all 4 Uncharted games in the space of 6 months and I've never felt burnt out quite like that on a video game series before, Uncharted 4 would be another 8/10 for me. Waiting for a steep discount for TLL.

There is not much to say. Horizon Zero Down main plot is just more interesting than The Witcher 3's. The sense of scale was bigger, it felt more urgent and from beginning to end I was at every moment looking forward to more story and lore to understand what happened with the people responsible and what is
Project Zero Down
. It is much more straight forward and better paced than The Witcher 3's too, which is gigantic and that obviously makes it harder to keep the pacing consistent. Horizon Zero Down main quest takes like 25-30 hours which was perfect imo. I never got tired of it and by the end of the game I actually wanted more. In the Witcher 3 the main quest often took second place to the main quests and by the end of it I was extremely exausted.

But yeah, the sidequests stories were better in The Witcher 3. They are the strongest point from TW3

I did this and had a little bit of fatigue on the genre and felt restricted in Horizon. Still a masterpiece but ULL is basically Uncharted Greatest Hits and has a solid "open world" section.
 
I think Horizon is better in almost every way. More interesting combat, story... I even thought it was better looking. However, it does not do a great job of easing you into the gameplay and doesn't really do a great job of introducing the upgrade system and such. This turned me off at first, especially after a game like BotW that did a great job of introducing mechanics. Once it all clicked, though, I was hooked and it's right up there close to BotW in how much I enjoyed it.

So, if you're looking for something not too difficult, LL will be easier to pick up and blow through. It's a great looking game in its own right and has those big set pieces we all love.
 
Horizon is the better game. It fits all of your criteria listed. It can be a little challenging at parts, but there is a story mode difficulty to choose if you don't want to deal with that.

It's my number two goty right after Zelda at the moment. Fantastic game.

I actually agree with the other poster that Horizon's main plot was better, but Witcher 3's side quests were far superior.

You're being way too dramatic in saying it's such an incomprehensible viewpoint.

I had a similar experience. I yearned for more Zelda, after 130+ hours. I purchased horizon on Amazon for 40 new and put about 7 hours into it. I then lost interest, especially with how limited it felt in terms of "go answer";something that Zelda truly offered.

Horizon is a gorgeous game with a compelling story but for me it wasn't the right time. I traded it in during GS trade 6 for 60% and i ended up getting 38.50 for it. So no big loss. I might go back to it when i am in the mood for a big open world game.
 
Judging from your criteria, Lost Legacy all the way

Especially since you enjoyed U4 (I loved it too!)

I was switching back and forth between Horizon and Botw, and Horizon just couldn't live up to that comparison to me. I ended up missing so many great gameplay features from Botw in Horizon, and there was little to compensate for it

Lost Legacy is its own thing entirely, and all the better for it. It's fantastic, focused and drop dead gorgeous entertainment.
