Under-appreciated Fast Food Items

Last week I got locked out of my house by accident. I was originally planning to go to this very good FF joint:

It took about 5 miles in 95+ degree heat but I thought it would be good exercise, and worth it. The BBQ chicken sandwich was solid and the Cheerwine was good. The next day I ate the corndog and chicken quesadilla that came as my sides.

It looks like a regular, pretty low effort quesadilla. The one in the pic above has beef but mine had chicken. It was just a griddled tortilla with chicken and cheese. And it was amazing. The edges were perfectly crisp, especially so when toasted. It had the exact ideal tortilla/cheese/chicken ratio. The texture was similar to a crispy crepe, which makes sense since technically a crepe is a tortilla with egg in it also.

So, I know it doesn't look like much, but it was awesome. That's my submission.

What are your favorite under-appreciated FF items? Pics or it never happened.

I got one of those right by my house Max. Cook Out is the shit for the money you pay. McDonalds is like right next door, and I'm like sorry Cook Out owns you. I also love that you can get hush puppies.

How are the hush puppies? I like a good amount of corn in mine. I will say I don't think I can eat McD's again unless I have to and there's nothing else around. The new nuggets are actually worse tasting from when I tried them last week, unless that was a fluke. Their quality tastes so crappy compared to something like Cook Out where it's recognizable as food.

Love Cook-Out and am so glad they are amply servicing Atlanta (even if the one on Moreland is always 100% packed).

Personally I still like Taco Bell. Still eat there two-three times a month. If they make the items right, they're God-tier. Just don't order anything with beans or sour cream, everything else is delicious, especially their variety of cheesy/ranchy sauces.

Not sure if it counts as an "item", but I really like ajvar and think it's a shame how relatively unknown it is outside the Balkans. It's a red pepper and eggplant sauce, used much like ketchup, added to various local dishes and fast food.

Quizno's in general.

Preach.

Their Veggie Guacamole is phenomenal. Something about the Red Wine Vinaigrette, Guacamole, Caramelized Onions, and raw mushroom works so well together.

They're addicting to the point where I had to cut myself off wholesale from going there because of how delicious they tasted & how awful they were.

The closest Cook Out to me in a hour and a half away. Is it worth the trip?

I have a friend that lives out there so I could make a day out of the drive.

mcdonalds soft serve cones are like one of three decent things on their entire menu.

The other two are the artisan chicken sandwich sans mayo and the hot fudge sundae when made right.

Nah, unless you have other business or interests in that area. It's good but not 1.5 hr good and I say that as a fan.

Cook Out has the simplicity thing going for them. It doesn't taste sterile and corporate, but homey and real. Maybe it's just the packaging and some kind of weird psychological thing, but I like it.

Cheesy Bean and Rice burrito at Taco Bell. 99 cents and is a fantastic addition to a meal.

I haven't had much fast food exposure outside the big chains, so given that I'm going with Burger King's Rodeo Cheeseburgers.

A 7 piece order of the Stuffed Jalapenos from Jack in the Box. Those things are so delicious.

I've bought frozen poppers from different brands at the supermarket, and none of them can step up to the JitB version.

I recently tried Arby's Gyros, and they were pretty good, for what it's worth.

I mean, they're nowhere near comparable to a proper gyro wrap or platter from a Mediterranean restaurant, but I enjoyed it.

Get a shake next time Max. I love Cheerwine but Cookout shakes are GOAT.

Cookout really is the absolute best late night, drunk food. The price and variety can't be beaten.

One by campus is always packed at 2 AM. It's Southern tradition at this point.

Yeah.
Tried once on a whim and was surprised by how good it was.
Not bad since it's one of (if not the) cheapest combo on their menu.

Their shakes are great! When I'm feeling more indulgent I get a cookies'n'cresm shake to split with my wife. And a cheese dog and other tasty unhealthier things on their menu. 😂

Arby's has the best breakfast out there.

Look at that thick sausage, none of that thin shit like mcdonalds. Their hashbrowns are way better too.

Quiznos used to be huge in California but now there's only one left open in my town.

But it's still the best sandwich place. Honey Bacon Club has been my go-to for a decade now.

Church's Chicken's biscuits may be the worst thing ever for you, but holy shit they are amazing. More a buttermilk scone soaked in honey butter.

yeah for a fast food place cook out is the best

I'll nominate the hash browns from McD's. they're not very good and they're usually too greasy but if you're ever hung over they're a great cure.
