I see Metal Gear acid in the OP, i long have waited for someone to make a port of that or something, What a fun game. That was my first "turn based" card game, that was so good.
There were ports of both Ac!d games for Java ME back in the day, and they were actually pretty decent. Both games had 2D and M3G (Mobile 3D Graphics API) versions. Here are some pics of the first one.

You can play them through J2ME-Loader if you have an Android phone.

Dead Space 3.

Seriously underrated. Certain survival horror fans (especially the most vocal) decided they'd hate the game before release due to the optional co-op & really optional micro transactions. Also, some rather dishonest gamers with a complete lack of objectivity decided to hate on the game because of the plot (like seriously... game scenarios have such high standards? I think not). It's a rollercoaster ride, long, fun, action horror with some pretty cool weapon mod tools & levels with semi open areas (including a great exterior space section). Guess what @ Dead Space 1 fans: that first game was also action heavy & turned into a shooter half way through the story (waves of necromorphs didn't just suddenly happen in the second & third games, no, the first game was also an action title).

People who claim Dead Space 1 was "real" survival horror whilst the second & third were "action" games are some of the most dishonest gamers out there who should take a long, hard look in the mirror & replay Dead Space 3. Because it's fun.

Absolutely. I've never understood the Dead Space 3 hate. It is the most different, for sure, and I do prefer the silent protagonist and overall vibe of the first, but 2 & 3 are fantastic as well. All 3 are all-time classics in my book. If you love sci-fi action horror, what's not to love?!?

As for my contributions (going by general reception measured by sales - not gaming enthusiast opinion):

God Hand
Killer 7
King's Field The Ancient City
Okami
Anarchy Reigns
Shadows of the Damned
Puppeteer
Binary Domain

I know it has a cult following to this day, but outside of my lan group, i didn't hear people talking about this a lot. Multiplayer was awesome. I've read the console versions were subpar but the PC version was great

Battle Engine Aquila, no contest.

It's like an RTS where you're inside the battle using a special unit. You really have to use strategy.

Massive battles with hundreds of units onscreen, destruction, spitscren coop, and versus mode running on the OG Xbox. Ps2 also but it suffers slowdown and low resolution but theres a PC version too.

The real beauty of the game is getting "S" ratings on missions, very rewarding but you have to be tactical to pull it off. It reviewed with mixed scores, but also got some mentions for game of the generation. Most people played it on default and never "got" the key design of striving for secondary objectives. Fault of the devs though.

Battleship. Yeah, the game of the movie. At first glance it could look like another cheap movie game but it is quite good. It is a mix of a generic first person shooter + real time naval strategy. You can command your ships while shooting the aliens and it actually works fine.

this gen? nothing else comes close:

I want to argue with you because I got bored halfway thru, but then I remembered I did actually complete the game, had a good time doing it, and enjoyed the story. Aside from a bit of the tedious side-missions this was a fun time :)

OG Xbox and Wii games: The Thread!

Blinx The Time Sweeper
Blinx 2 Masters of Space and Time

Recently went back to play my Blinx games and while they were fun I just can't do the inverted sticks anymore. It'd be great to see them ported with the option to change controls a bit.

I'm pretty sure it was your recommendation in some thread a few months ago that clued me in on this game. I now have a copy on my shelf. Thank you.

Anyway, if I hadn't mentioned it before, you should investigate Uprising: Join or Die if you like that strategy + shooter combo. I sunk a lot of hours into this game as a kid.

Picross 3D. It's a great puzzle game with a lot of content and a unique control style. I think I ended up beating all the puzzles like 3 times before I got rid of my 3ds (started playing the game already during ds era)...

Had (and still have) a lot of fun with it. Great zen game when I just need something that doesn't press me emotionally.

I never hear much about this one, but I enjoy this game and still play it on my PC. It's got a good challenge and I love the gore. Great soundtrack too.

Battlezone 98 was pretty good too. It was remastered by Rebellion a few years ago.

Bizzare Creations' penultimate game. It's like PGR crossed with WipEout.
I just love the futuristic dream-like visuals. The sound design is impressive too.

I fucking love GAF sometimes for threads like this.

A hybrid of Persona and Dangan Ronpa is the best way to describe it with a very basic and straight forward plot. The gimmick of the game is that as you progress one of the 11 party members you have with you will betray you every time you advance in this tower the game takes place in.

The first person to betray you on NG is ALWAYS scripted to be the same one but after that it could be ANY of them, even someone you end up liking. You gotta vote for who to kill every floor you advance to sacrifice and you have to convince everyone else to vote for that character so the one to betray you dies, otherwise it will end up making the game harder.

That was very unique game, my only issue is characters don't react or talk about the person you sacrificed, I think because it was random who will betray you.

Here's another batch of underrated games:

Megaman X Command Mission: The most underrated megaman game ever, no one ever talks about this RPG, it has a really good story with many plot twists, and a really good battle system similar to FFX.

Musashi Samurai Legend: I often see people on forums calling the original Musashi game a hidden gem but I never see the sequel getting mentioned, I loved this game as a kid, stealing skills from enemies was brilliant game design.

Castlevania Curse of Darkness: I swear if this game was released today everyone would be calling it a Soulslike, I genuinely believe From Software took inspiration from this game, it's Symphony of the Night but in 3D.

X-Squad: this was a launch title for the PS2 it actually comes in a CD-ROM rather than a DVD-ROM, it's a pretty short third person shooter with a very arcadey feel as you use your score to buy new equipment and at the end of the game you get a rank based on how much of that score you didn't use, you command 4 characters and you get to choose their loadout before missions, it also has some stealth mechanics, another game I loved as a kid.

Lost Planet 2: To this day I still don't know why this game was so poorly reviewed I had a lot of fun playing it with friends and randoms, the train level and the underwater level are some of my favorite levels in any videogame.

The Caligula Effect Overdose: This 1 is very recent, it came out early this year, it's a remake of a PS Vita JRPG made on UE4, I feel like everyone, even JRPG fans ignored it, the battle system in this game is so good, you basically string together turns in a timeline in order to make combos against enemies it's honestly pretty addicting, the story takes awhile to get good but it does get good and the soundtrack is amazing.

I just started playing Curse of Darkness and stopped. It started so slow and I got lost but it definitely has potential, it's just my backlog is over 100 games, and this thread ain't helping! Lol

The more you advance the better it gets, you will start unlocking many familiars, weapons and skills for Hector, and the combat will really open up, it's actually not a very long game, 20 to 25 hours for a first playthrough I would say.

Solomons Key 2
("Fire 'n Ice" in the land of the free)

One of the extremely few NES games that doesn't require nostalgia to hold up today imo.

Commenting so I can find this thread easier. I really hope the PS5 backwards compatibility rumors are true, so many good games to revisit. Also need to pickup a cheap Wii U and play some of those gems I missed out on.

For all RPG fans out there: PLAY THIS!! Great game, great story, great music, great characters, charming art style. Surprised it got a remaster for Switch, PS4 and PC!

1. Kingdomcome: Deliverance - I'm playing now. Amazing and very rewarding skill wise. Also beautiful and full of real history to read and learn/experience.

2. Titanfall 2 - just so tight. Looks amazing and plays seamlessly. Praise couldn't be high enough.

3. Driveclub - best racing game I've ever played.

The PS2-era Castlevanias were fantastic imo. I never understood the luke-warm reception.

Come back Konami. All will be forgiven. :messenger_heart:

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Such an amazing game.. but funny thing is.. I didn't like it at first either. I recently replayed it, after finishing the Director's Cut of Deus Ex: Human Revolution (ps3) and it suddenly just clicked for me. I couldn't/can't understand why I didn't like the game at first.

I still think too human was underrated. Or at least hated for no reason other than the delays and the creator

That wasn't why the game was hated. It only had 4 dungeons and the gameplay was super repetitive with the twin stick controls. I actually finished the game, but had to force myself to do it.

I'm starting to think Greedfall will be considered an underrated rpg as time passes. It may not have the AAA production of Bioware game or the fantastic writing of a CD Projekt Red title like The Witcher 3, but it's a fun game and does well with what it has.

I'm playing Bahamut Lagoon now, and this game is amazing. Beautiful graphics, cool setting, fun systems. This is the REAL Final Fantasy Tactics. I don't know why they didn't put the FF name on it, maybe just cause Uematsu didn't do the music?

Of course it helps that i feel the game called FFT is unplayable because of the awful camera that you have to adjust twenty times a turn... So I guess I added an overrated game as a bonus.

The Japanese cover in the middle looks amazing. I would love to know the name of the artist.
