Richard Dawson as Damon Killian in The Running Man

Not in the same league as say Captain Vettel, but Le Chifre was a nice change of pace as a bond villain. Yeah the scarred-eye-blood-tear was corny, but when he is whipping bond - that scene was very uncomfortable to watch.

The image doesn't work for me, but I agree, severely underrated performance. The movie was kinda eh, to be frank, but Gary Oldman's performance as Zorg was just brilliant.

Saddly almost ALL performances of Gary Oldman are brilliant and they are all pretty much underated.

Cruise was eight different kinds of badass in Collateral. I still think it's his best performance to date.

*edit - fuck it, I'll use any excuse to post this .gif:

Lord Naritsugu from 13 Assassins. Helps that the first half of the movie is simply a description of what a vile piece of shit he is, and the second half of the movie is an uninterrupted fight sequence where he and his allies get maximum fucking comeuppance from the best Samurai in Japan and an epic tree peasant.
Technically an indestructibly charming forest demon.

i know , i know the movie is ridiculous...but man Frank Langella really was good...its like they had enough money for a writer to write skeletors lines...then he quit or something.
Yeah, I saw part of this again a few years ago and was shocked at how good he was in a sea of total shit.

Using another thread for it because it's TV not a movie would be dumb, so I'm gonna mention this here.

I finished watching the entirety of Buffy the Vampire Slayer recently, and I still can't believe how completely creepy Juliet Landau as Drusilla was. Out of all the bad guys in that whole series, she is easily the one I would least want to be stuck in a room with.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman in Mission: Impossible 3

Almost on the same level of Joker in TDK. Sure not as flashy, but he's totally fucking with Ethan's head and manipulating him. He knows where to hit him that'll hurt him the most and does.
It made Mission Impossible 3 the 2nd best one in the series for me because not only is it a bunch of flashy spy/action stuff, but it has a solid narrative too.

Yeah, Owen Davien is probably one of my favorite villains of all time. Definitely agree with this.

My favorite villain of all-time, though:

Jason Isaacs as Tavington in The Patriot. Probably one of the most despicable characters ever and played to perfection. Not sure how underrated he is, though, but I know the movie as a whole gets a lot of flak.

Lots, lots of good choices.

Cruise in Collateral is excellent. As a sidenote I think it is better than Heat

Watched this movie for the first time a week or so ago. Not only a terrible, terrible film, but such a ridiculous villain. Couldn't disagree with you more on this pick.

Anyway, I'm going to say Rijk de Gooyer's character in Soldier of Orange, Breitner. Amazing actor, and what a despicable and convincing villain he plays.

Can't talk about Hellboy without mentioning the weird undead Nazi dude

Technically not a real villian but Mark Strong in Revolver was pretty great:

Bad guy from Hellboy 2 really believed he did the right thing, though.

Any more examples of that? I guess most villains do, but what are some good examples where they actually show this?

I remember that the villain in V for Vendetta honestly believed he was doing the right thing in the comic, but the movie just made him a regular bad guy.

My votes goes for:

Tim Roth in Tim Burton's remake of Planet of the Apes. Movie was absolutely forgettable, but Roth's performance was awesome.

Dude from The Rock.

Onibaba -

onibaba4.jpg

Oh man, I saw this thread earlier and Onibaba was the first thing to come to mind. I shouldn't have waited.

Then again, you and I are probably the only people who have even seen the film. I had a remake idea for it for years that I'll eventually do.

The thread is about underrated movie villains, not underrated actors. If he's known for the character and qualifies as a "one hit wonder" then he's not underrated.

It's kind of hilarious that you'd criticize someone else's "basic comprehension," though.

I would not classify Robert Patrick as a 'one hit wonder' he is known as the T1000 but he has been in plenty of things and does a lot of TV show characters and voice overs.

Also hell yea Lucas Lee. Best casted and most awesome character in that movie. I don't even care if the fight was lame. I wanna see his other "fake" movies.

John Lithgow in Ricochet

Ricochet_43821_Medium.jpg

The lengths he goes to torment denzel was sadistic, He didn't just want to hurt him, he wanted to destroy him in all ways possible...for god sakes he fucken gave him the ghonherhea!

John lithgow is an awesome psychopath.

This is Baron Harkonnen from Dune. He is my choice for the most underrated villain in film.

duneharkonnen.jpg

He was the first villain I thought of and haven't seen him posted, so I think I made a good choice. Given his short amount of screen time in Dune, he was goddamn horrifying. His scene with the heart plugged prisoner is one of the most vile things I ever saw as a child and stuck with me for a long time. That scene still makes me cringe to this day. He was established quickly and used excellently during the movie. He was high impact and owned every scene he was in.

I appreciate the folk posting movie titles with their images.

Everyone else, eat a dick.

Some damn courtesy, good god. Especially in an "underrated" thread. Some of these are not quite as known as the others!

Does Maleficent count as underrated? I know Kingdom Hearts has done wonders for her publicity, but aside from that, it seems that it's usually Hades and Jafar who get all the praise. This lady was the first time I ever heard a swear word in a Disney film, and her taunting of Philip toward the end is crazy good.

Rescuers Down Under.

Guy gave me nightmares as a kid. Man, at the end of that movie, what a cryptic way to deal with the bad guy.
