Underrated PS1 games.

Digimon World!

Digimon_World_ntsc-front.jpg

Maan this game. It was expansive, exploration filled, had nice graphics, interesting evoution/raising mechanics and lots of side activities. Had a fake ending and everything.

Was gonna post this. I want a sequel to this game, but we need Mega Man Legends 3 first.

Also, it turns out that this is one of the rarest PS1 games.

I've mentioned it a load of times on this site, but I'm still kicking myself for not buying a new copy of this for like £10 or £15 back in the day from GAME or possibly Electronic Boutique it it hadn't changed over then.

I'll give a mention to Micro Maniacs.

I'm sure there's someone on here who has a Twister (I'm sure that was his name) avatar, and I'd like to let you know that you've got good taste.

Well...
Alundra comes to mind. Was pretty underrated and fell into the shadow of Final Fantasy 7 & Resident Evil 2.

Tactics Ogre comes to mind. It's just as amazing as Final Fantasy Tactics (hard to choose which I love more). Also, I second Brigandine. Love that game and no one ever talked about it.

First post :)

RC de Go is fun times if you like RC Pro AM type racers.

I love me some Konami International Track & Field. The one in the long box. I felt it was way better than Saturn's Decathlete though I do love me its winter cousin on the Saturn, Winter Heat.

I gots fun memories of my brother coming home on his lunch breaks and us playing through a 15 minute Olympics. I'd always burn out with tappa-tappa fatigue by the time the minute-long swimming event started and end up watching him try to get the World Record on that. That is a LONG TIME to be pressing those buttons frantically.

I also love video game versions of Wheel of Fortune and the first PS1 version is my favorite. The more you play you get a better grasp of wheel power and how to mostly avoid the bankrupt/lose a spins. I played it over and over one summer trying to top $100,000 in one round ;)

Oh man, I forgot about this game, this was a blast playing with friends.

I don't know if the Harry Potter games on PS1 were underrated but I love them so much, you could explore Hogwarts and the mini games were actually fun.

None of the other games did it for me.

One of my all time favorites on PSX and one of the only SRPG I really invested myself into.

100%'d at least 3 times with all the endings.

Brilliant translation from Working Design, and it's on PSN!

While the art direction may not be as compelling as in previous versions of the game, the gameplay more than makes up for it. It's an amped up version of Ninja Warriors Again in a three story tall mech, but with fighting game controls and anchored by the solid Pazer Bandit engine.

I was waiting for this thread.

Silhouette Mirage was fucking incredible. Charming story, interesting gameplay, the gimmick of having two types of powers was very great (I thought that it was about one being more about male sex and the other more female sex, but in the end, the sexes had no meaning as some major characters had no gender or broke this "rule").

The game I'll name will be this:

One of the first exploration games I've played on PS1. It was really great, IMO.

i dont know how well regarded this was at the time but i finished this game with my cousin in one sitting, which is telling since all we played were soccer games back then. its also one of the main things that got me into cyberpunk

Yes!

I'd also put Disney's Hercules in the list of good licensed games.

i also have great memories with this game. then i downloaded it on ps3 the other day. i shldnt have :/ i remember the movie being amazing too, guess i shldnt watch that again either..

By some miracle, it managed to get a successor on the DS a few years ago:

I am a HUGE fan of Ace Combat and before I became that I super enjoyed Wing Over 2, then Ace Combat 5 (got 4 a lot later), for PS2, came and I felt right at home since it played almost identically like Wing Over 2. A couple of years later I decided to buy Ace Combat 3 for PS1 and what have I found totally amazed me. Ace Combat 3 is a junk, a bad game with horrible controls, graphics and sounds. It is super floaty and feels NOTHING like Ace Combat, and then it hit me, Namco didn't continue with Ace Combat 3 they actually took Wing Over series and made their own game from it. There is almost nothing in common between Ace Combat 3 and 4 but there is a hell of a resemblence between the modern Ace Combat series and the good old Wing Over series. Maybe it is a coincidence, but a damn fine for sure and I am glad what Namco did.

Damn, this thread's making me wanna take a week off work and jam with some friends on some old school goodness! Shame Sony doesn't seem to be actively adding new PS1 games to the store, would love to have some of these on my Vita.

My addition. Not sure if it still holds up but I remember being stunned by the atmosphere, dialogue options and how much it made me feel like a badass Jedi.

Fighting Force!
I'd say if anything, that game is overrated. As a huge fan of the brawler genre, I was hugely disappointed with that game. There weren't a lot of details in the stages, there weren't many cool pickups or weapons, and the soundtrack was largely boring.

Compare it to Dynamite Cop (Die Hard Arcade) or especially Alien vs Predator and it can't hold a candle to those.

Adventure Of Little Ralph gets my pick. Japan only and probably only sold a couple thousand there. However, it's on JPSN.

It's 2D arcade side-scrolling action platforming with an emphasis on time attack and score attack, with awesome sprites, music, etc. Only bad part is boss fights where your character transforms into an adult and the game shifts over to pure 2D fighter. However, this game does it better than any other game I've played that does this (ummm, god of war and can't think of what else, but I know there are more.)

I'm seeing some great titles here for sure!
Unholy War particularly is one I wish got revisited.

With that said, I also see some TERRIBLE games on here. I'm wondering how many people are capable of removing the nostalgia of playing their first with quality products.

Also... Wacky Races. Hi5s to all who posted that. Loved it on the DC!

Count me second, or third, on Gundam Battle Assault 2, The Unholy War, Micro Maniacs, Speed Punks, Silent Bomber and Bloody Roar 2. All solid stuff.

Here's three more that are worth your nickel:

Destrega: very smooth-playing and well-implemented arena battler (basically pre-MOBA gameplay)

Trap Gunner: spy-v-spy game with traps, cool music and dual screen action. Very fun solo or with 2 people.

Wild 9 is cheap as hell and has plenty of interesting platforming ideas. Polished.

Pretty much anything that isn't Final Fantasy or Metal Gear Solid.

It blows my mind how limited people's exposure are to the PS1 library.
Really? People go crazy over Crash, Spyro, Ape Escape, Parappa, Syphon Filter, Legend of Dragoon, WipEout, and a lot more. Typically I see people put it just behind PS2 and SNES for best library ever.
