Underrated PS1 games.

Grind Session
Hell yes! I really enjoyed it back in the day. I think I own every skateboarding game that came out on the ps1... except thrasher. Yup. Even Street Sk8r.

This along with Shaun Palmer Snowboarding (ps2) are my two most-played snowboarding games. I've always disliked SSX, for some reason.

I loved croc and everybody seemed to hate it. It was one of the three games I found under the Christmas tree (along with True Pinball and Toca Touring Car).

Rogue Trip: Vacation 2012
sony-playstation-rogue-trip-vacation-2012.jpg

I came here to post this! My favorite vehicular combat game ever. I really really loved the idea of being able to upgrade every weapon to a stronger version... and the level design was great, with all those secret areas, etc.

Fantastic game. I even bought the "collector edition"... It contained a really crappy white playstation t-shirt in an oversized box...

Sadly I cannot go through my collection as it's 450km away from where I live...

Wild 9, Nightmare Creature, Bushido Blade...You guys are alll right :D

Now, for some ones NOT mentioned!

Still very upset it has not been rereleased on PSN. Let alone have some sort of remake. Open City game where you fly a futuristic cop vehicle around, scanning other vehicles to determine if that is your suspect, bombing runs, dog fights and more! Almost like Colony Wars, on a planet. And oh yea, Colony Wars!!

This game was the closest thing I ever got to those fake arcade games you'd see in TV or movies. SOmetimes the "fake" games were real, just Neo Geo games that'd we'd never get a chance to play/own. This game was similar..fast paced, explosions everywhere, very chaotic and fun. Story sucks, if it is even present, but who cares! I get to drive around as a badass tank and wreck shit up.

Great, silly, 4 player coop brawler.
I never played your post, but the Wu Tang game was GREAT for this!!

As a kid I fucking loved all these as much as my classics PS1 games like MGS/FF7/MMX4/ect. I have no idea how they hold up, I doubt Army Men is hardly playable now and I'm pretty sure Eggs of Steel was only good to me because I was a child. Still they all brought me much joy and Forbidden Memories is one of the best console card games imo.

medal%20of%20honor.jpg

The first Medal of Honor never gets enough credit imo. It couldn't compete graphically against 1999's PC monsters, but still manages to be the best FPS for PSX, with its good graphics, great music, good gameplay and great enemy AI.

So is there a way we could get a campaign going for some of these games to get them on PSN? Because there are so many, maybe create a large list with the most requested at the top, then twitter campaign for each one week by week.

And fun 1 vs. 1 multiplayer.

I'm sad no one has put this up, it is such an amazing game with an awesome sound track (really the sound track is good). I also liked the story and characters. Also made by Squaresoft.

Oh man, I forgot about this game, this was a blast playing with friends.

I don't know if the Harry Potter games on PS1 were underrated but I love them so much, you could explore Hogwarts and the mini games were actually fun.

None of the other games did it for me.

I use to love the Harry Potter games! Even that one with just Qudditch.

I have no idea what the hell happened to the later HP games that made them suck so much compared to the first two. :(

Silverload.

It was probably my introduction to the point and click genre. The game had a unique, gothic-western setting, and some of the puzzles were actually very good (although some, of course, suffered from the same arcane-ness of all the other point and clicks of the day). Puzzle solving was at times broken up by first-person revolver duels, and the acting and writing were full of campy charm.

While the art direction may not be as compelling as in previous versions of the game, the gameplay more than makes up for it. It's an amped up version of Ninja Warriors Again in a three story tall mech, but with fighting game controls and anchored by the solid Pazer Bandit engine.

Interesting. Never heard of this, will investigate

I know there is an air of "so bad its good" around the title and gameplay, but "Rising Zan: Samurai Gunman" was actually really fun to play through.
Also more people should try and Diablo 1 port on ps1. Not nearly as bad as you might think, and interesting enough to replay classic diablo again.
Oh, and Kings Field 1 and 2 as well as Shadow Tower. Unbelievable world building in these. Predecessors to the Souls Series.

Persona 2: Eternal Punishment

persona_2_eternal_punishment_usa.jpg

Yes, I am aware that Persona is a very popular series, but Persona started off as a niche series with limited print.
The series' popularity skyrocketed during later Persona games, so this game is underrated during it's time when RPG games from Square-Enix (Squaresoft at the time) were receiving all the attention and praise.

So much this. I still own a copy. Also Omega Boost. Omega boost still to this day has my favorite intro ever. Never beat it because it was hard as hell.

This.

Oh the things I would do for a PSN release/HD rerelease.
I have an original copy. It runs perfectly in an emulator. But I guess the people that don't will have to keep hoping for a PSN version.

edit: IGN retroactively increased their score for Team Buddies, several times, I think. Weird.

Came in here to say a few and I think they've all been posted. Alundra is definitely the first that comes to mind. Future Cop, G Police, Nightmare Creatures and Legend of Legaia all did too.

Hadn't seen Galerians mentioned. Loved it at the time, although no idea if it was actually decent. Cloudy nostalgia vision and all that.

The PS1 version of Diablo was also actually pretty great. It had excellent couch co-op.

Games were so colorful and happy back then. Just looking at screens from some of the games in here fills me with good feelings.

Army_Men_Air_Attack_cover_art.jpg

I played this as a kid, but was genuinely surprised at how fun this is, because the normal Army Men games are shit. I think Air Attack 2 was better, also. It's satisfying to blow things up, has some exploration in the levels, and the gameplay can get frantic and tense. Pretty cool - not overdone - use of bugs as a 3rd enemy too.
